Spark-HandsOn In this Hands-On, we are going to show how you can use Apache Spark and some components of it ecosystem for data processing. This workshop is split in four parts. We will use a dataset that consists of tweets containing just a few fields like id, user, text, country and place. In the first one, you will play with the Spark API for basic operations like counting, filtering, aggregating. After that, you will get to know Spark SQL to query structured data (here in json) using SQL. In the third part, you will use Spark Streaming and the twitter streaming API to analyse a live stream of Tweets. To finish we will build a simple model to identify the language in a text. Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with.
