eading skill is a very important factor responsible for increasing the ability to learn and master
a large volume of information. Educational researchers have found that there is a strong
correlation between reading and academic successi
. Good reader can understand the individual
sentences and the organizational structure of a piece of writing. They can comprehend ideas,
follow arguments and detect implications. They know most of the words in the text already they
can also determine the meanings of the unfamiliar words from the context

FIRST AID
Activity: what does the title suggest the lesson is
all about?
TEXT
First aid means responding to emergency situations.
Accidents2 always happen unexpectedly. But a life can
be saved by having a basic knowledge of what to doing
emergency and knowing proper first aid procedures.
Basic training in first aid skills should be taught in
schools3.

was too fertile people came to live in Egypt earlier than in most places, probably
around 40,000 years ago. It has a rich
culture. Travelers from all around the
world like to visit Egypt. It is famous
for Pyramids. Egypt is also known for
its ancient histories. Prophet Joseph4

s had ruled in the Egypt. He was
thrown into a well by his step brothers.
A traveler of Egypt coincidently came
to fetch the water from the well. There he found The Prophet Josephv
and took him
out of the well. And find in the little boy to be extremely beautiful, thought to sell5
him in Egypt.

While reading activities help in recognizing the patterns of text through skimming,
making inferences, deducing meanings from the context. Among while reading
activities some involve are skimming, scanning etc.
2.1 Skimmingvi
means reading quickly to get
the gist or the main idea of the text. Students can be asked general questions, or to
put the title on the text

safe shelter. Throughout human history man has
found peace in the written work. Books are
bridges through their pages we make our contact
with society. Those who read more are better
prepared to face the world than those who do not
read.

2.2
Scanning means to locate specific
information. The key point in
scanning is that the reader has
something in his mind and he or she
should ignore the irrelevant parts
when reading. Pictures, drawings
tables etc. are the devices of scanning.
Through the text students choose
specific information and incorporate
in the table or charts.
Activity: Fill in the table while reading the text.

At 9:30 am on the morning of April 18, 1906, the city of San Francisco was shaken
by a terrible Earth Quake. Hundreds of buildings were destroyed and causalities
caused were 250,000.
Another earthquake shook San Francisco on October17th, 1989. 100
people were killed at 5:13 am. a wide busy bridge was destroyed.
Many people were killed in the cars but a few luckily were not hurt.

The key point in scanning is that the reader has something in his mind and he or she should ignore the irrelevant parts when reading. Pictures, drawings tables etc. are the devices of scanning. Through the text students choose specific information and incorporate in the table or charts. Activity: Fill in the table while reading the text. Text At 9:30 am on the morning of April 18, 1906, the city of San Francisco was shaken by a terrible Earth Quake. Hundreds of buildings were destroyed and causalities caused were 250,000.
