approaches and considered alternatives, thereby
providing an informed rationale for teaching this
subject. It looked at the frequency-based
approach and tree diagrams in detail, showing
learners how to plan a learning sequence that
incorporated practical experimental work and
data gathering. The course finished by reviewing
the type of questions that are commonly used in
examinations.

world’ and abstract treatments of probability.

Reflect on the potential of frequency-based
approaches to make the teaching of probability
more meaningful, and to effectively tackle
challenging exam-style questions.

experience, and a review of how it is currently
taught

Theoretical and experimental approaches,
extending to consideration of frequencies

Conditional probability and data modelling

Representation of data, including frequency
trees and Venn diagrams
