Why We Did Not Choose BBC One:
We did not choose BBC One for several reasons. Firstly from our research we discovered that BBC One
do not feature documentaries as often as BBC three and when they do the majority of the documentaries
are based on crime such as ‘Panorama’ or ‘The Truth About Crime.’ Although as mentioned in the early
segment of my presentation there may be a knock effect of crime this would only be a minor mention of
crime as not so heavily investigated as these documentaries.

Furthermore, continuing on BBC One’s documentaries do not share of same genre as our documentary.
This is evident through investigating the documentaries they broadcast such as ‘Goodnight Britain’
‘Great British Railway Journeys’ ‘Britain’s hidden hunger’ and ‘Imagine’ These documentaries have
themes of exploring Britain's culture, history and art. These genres are not to be found in our
documentary as therefore the target audience of these documentary would not have an interest in our
documentary and likewise our young target audience would also not have an interest in these
documentaries which is evident from the results of our questionnaire and would therefore not watch
documentaries broadcast on BBC One. This makes it evident to us that BBC One is not a suitable
channel to broadcast on documentary.

Moreover, from our questionnaire results specifically on question four it is clear that BBC One is a
channel that our target audience would not tune in onto as they received the lowest percentage on the
channels that our target audience watch. As a result it is clear that our target audience do not watch
documentaries broadcast on BBC One and therefore it is only logical not to allow BBC One to broadcast
our documentary as it would only isolate our target audience and decrease our ratings and ultimately lead
to our documentary being unsuccessful.
Why We Did Not Choose BBC Two:

When researching possible channels to broadcast our documentary we immediately ruled
out BBC Two. Firstly from our research into our target audience through our questionnaire
we discovered that a minor percentage of our target audience watch BBC Two. Therefore it
was clear to us that if we were to choose BBC Two as our channel to broadcast our
documentary we would be secluding the majority of our target audience which would be
defeating the purpose of making the documentary.

In addition, from researching BBC Two it was clear that they seldom broadcast
documentaries and when they do they are nature based. Seeing as our documentary is a
business based documentary it does not fit into our documentary genre. As a result it is clear
that our documentary does not fit into the codes and conventions of BBC Two
documentaries and is therefore irrelevant for us to have it broadcast on BBC Two.

Furthermore, we also discovered the BBC Two’s target audience is more mature and older
than our target audience as it is therefore evident that a more adult target audience would not
have an interest in young peoples problems, making BBC Two an unsuitable channel to
broadcast our documentary.
Why We Did Not Choose
                                       ITV/Channel Four

We had much debate other whether to have ITV broadcast our documentary and early on course we
considered using ITV however, after discussion, research and our target audiences opinions on ITV we
came to the conclusion not to allow this channel to broadcast our documentary. We discussed ITV and
through research we discovered that ITV only broadcast documentaries when a scandal has occurred
in the current events e.g. ‘Jimmy Saville documentary’ ITV tent to only broadcast sport, cultural or
drama programmes which do not fit our documentary genre. Plus, from our questionnaire it is clear
that our target audience watch and prefer BBC Three over ITV making it clear we have made the
correct choice but choosing BBC Three over ITV. Furthermore, from discussions with our target
audience and through our questionnaire it is evident that ITV is unfavourable with our target audience
and therefore illogical to have ITV broadcast our documentary.

We also ruled out Channel Four as Channel Four tends to broadcast programmes rather than
documentaries and although them are entertaining which is an element which we aim to convey in our
documentary it would be irrelevant to broadcast a documentary on a channel that does not air
documentaries. We need to have a lot more in-depth research into channel because like BBC Three it
too is watched by a young target audience so we allow our questionnaire to determine which channel
was more popular with our target audience and from the results BBC Three had to greater percentage
which makes it evident we made the right choice by choosing BBC Three over Channel Four.
Why We Did Not Choose E4:

E4 was the next channel we investigated, we originally thought to use E4 to broadcast our
documentary as it had a young target audience and after discussion with our target audience
they seemed to like channel four. However, after researching E4 and the programmes they
broadcast it was clear they do not broadcast any documentaries.

As a result, we decided not to use E4 to broadcast our documentary and choose BBC three
instead. We were right in our decision to do this because our questionnaire results indicates
BBC Three is our target audiences most favourable channels and more importantly it
broadcasts documentaries that fit our documentary genre.
