VIOCARE’S NUTRITIONAL ASSESSMENT SUPPORTS SUSTAINED WEIGHT LOSS
Viocare’s nutritional assessment was an optional part of a comprehensive wellness program adopted by
a Pennsylvania software engineering firm. The full program consisting of online tools, printed education
materials and email coaching was offered to 1400 employees. Incentives were offered to encourage
overall participation and a web portal was provided for participants to self-report data.
Twenty percent of employees (286) participated and self-reported weight twice at least 30 days apart.
This participation rate was similar to other voluntary employee programs (19% for weight management
and 17% for wellness) as reported by the National Business Group on Health (NBGH). Self-reported
weight data for these 286 participants showed an average weight loss of 4.4 pounds for those that
engaged with Viocare’s nutritional assessment and coaching. Of those who started, 90% completed
Viocare’s nutritional assessment.
NBGH also reports that 24% of program participants typically engage in nutrition education classes.
Though not a direct comparison, a slightly higher number of participants (28% or 81), opted to take
Viocare’s nutritional assessment which is targeted at personalized nutrition evaluation and education.
Participants that took Viocare’s nutritional assessment had slightly higher engagement with coaching
(75% vs. 71%) and greater average program participation time (536 days vs. 456 days) compared to
those that did not. The most significant difference between those taking the assessment and those that
did not is the average weight lost. Results show that participants that took Viocare’s nutritional
assessment had higher average weight loss in both coached and non-coached scenarios.

(those with BMI greater than 30) similar patterns can be observed. Participants that took the
assessment and had coaching produced the best results with an average of 9.8 pounds lost.
