INTRODUCTION Psychology has history of 2500 years. It was the time span of SOCRETIS , PLATO, ARISTOTAL. Psychology was studied as a part of Phylosophy. According to Greek Phylosophy- Psychology=psyche+logos. Psyche=soul Logos=knowledge psychology is knowledge of soul or science of soul. Prof. Darade D. B.
Changes in defination ….. In terms of study of soul. According to this definition psychology is rational course of study of soul. What is soul? How can it be studied? . Prof. Darade D. B.
Mind? In terms of study of mind. “Psychology is the study of mind” What is mind? How can it be studied? Prof. Darade D. B.
Consciousness… In terms of study of consciousness. William James – in his book Principles of Psychology published in 1890 “The description and explanation of state of consciousness. Wilhemwundt (1832-1920)who established the first psychology laboratory at university of Lipzig. Praposed introspection method. E. B. Titchener also defined as study of consciousness. What is about subconscious and unconscious activities of mind? Is introspection subjective? Is it scientific? Prof. Darade D. B.
Meaning of term behaviour It includes all the motor and conative activities like walking, swimming Cognitive – thinking , reasoning, imaging etc. Subconscious , unconscious, inner experiences and mental processes . Prof. Darade D. B.

R.H.Thouless- “Psychology is the positive science of human experience and behaviour.” Mc Dougall- “Psychology is the positive science of human experience and behaviour” Woodworth -“ psychology of the activities of the individual in relation to the environment.” BORING- “Psychology is the study of human nature”.   • 2. INTRODUCTION Psychology has history of 2500 years. It was the time span of SOCRETIS , PLATO, ARISTOTAL. Psychology was studied as a part of Phylosophy. According to Greek Phylosophy- Psychology=psyche+logos. Psyche=soul Logos=knowledge psychology is knowledge of soul or science of soul. Prof. Darade D. B.
  • 3. Changes in defination ….. In terms of study of soul. According to this definition psychology is rational course of study of soul. What is soul? How can it be studied? . Prof. Darade D. B.
  • 4. Mind? In terms of study of mind. “Psychology is the study of mind” What is mind? How can it be studied? Prof. Darade D. B.
  • 5. Consciousness… In terms of study of consciousness. William James – in his book Principles of Psychology published in 1890 “The description and explanation of state of consciousness. Wilhemwundt (1832-1920)who established the first psychology laboratory at university of Lipzig. Praposed introspection method. E. B. Titchener also defined as study of consciousness.
