University Mobile Challenge (UMC) is sponsored by Applied Innovation Institute. UMC2015 is our fifth annual international competition held at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, March 2015.
Held in collaboration with GSMA and Mobile World Capital Barcelona, it is a unique, high-profile event, for university entrepreneurs and innovators to showcase new mobile solutions in front of industry leaders, venture capitalists, angel investors, and distinguished entrepreneurs. We accept applications from universities worldwide.
The Applied Innovation Institute seeks to bridge the gap between industry and academia in the areas of entrepreneurship and innovation. We promote entrepreneurship and innovation education at the university level through curriculum development and competition events. For industry, we develop executive development programs that provide our clients with a framework to grow their capacity to innovate and build sustainable advantage.

We are launching University Mobile Challenge 2015, our 5th annual
competition for university-sponsored mobile solution entrepreneurs and
innovators. Finalists will compete live at Mobile World Congress in
Barcelona, Spain in March 2015.
3. The Challenge
Last year, we had 56 university teams compete for a chance to present at
Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.
Finalists from 14 countries presented at MWC and were judged by
panelists that included industry leaders, angel investors, accelerators, and
successful serial entrepreneurs.
Teams presented solutions across a variety of sectors: healthcare,
education, food, social networking, mobile utility, and social impact.
4. Eligibility
Each university team must have at least 2 members and no more than 5
Each team must have a university faculty sponsor
Teams commit to develop a functioning prototype
At least one team member must be currently enrolled or graduated from the
sponsor university within the last year
One team member of finalist teams will be awarded a stipend to travel to
Barcelona (one additional team member may be self-funded)
6. Key Dates and Contacts
Deadline to register: extended to January 2, 2015!!
January 3 – January 15: Online judging process
January 15, 2015: Top 20 teams will be announced
January 19-23: Live web presentations by the top twenty
teams (teams must have a prototype to demo!)
January 25: Winners announced! Eight teams will be
selected to present at MWC in Barcelona on March 2, 2015
7. UMC and Mobile World Congress
Teams will attend a boot-camp event for mentoring and pitch
development
Eight teams from UMC and eight teams from Aii’s Global Mobile
Challenge (GMC) will compete in a final round
The top UMC team will win Aii’s Washburn Prize
Teams will have access to the Four Year’s From Now exhibition center
