2. Go over your gesture drawings with contour line. This is your opportunity to solidify your design and develop the image that you will eventually transform into a 3-D sculpture. You may simplify some of the more complex details of the insect but do not sacrifice major components or markings. Ex. Do not remove the spots from a ladybug, or the stripes from a yellow jacket.
3. Label your parts and do not make up parts from your mind! Remember that advanced journaling requires that you use text as a graphic device.
4. You will want to pay close attention to the proportions of the insect. Remember that proportion is the relationship of the parts to one another. One of the things we will be grading in the sculpture you construct from the drawings you are now making will be proportion.
5. Activate the pages. Include color in your planning pages so that you can reference them later as you create your artwork. Be creative and include environmental details in your background.
