Problem and Solution of Global Warming
Global warming is the observed increase in the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere and
oceans. Higher temperatures threaten dangerous consequences: drought, disease, floods, and lost
ecosystems. From sweltering heat to rising seas, global warming's effects have already begun.
Many people still believe that since the earth is so big, human beings cannot possibly have any
major impact on the way the planet operates. The truth is we have grown so numerous and our
technologies have become so powerful that we are now capable of having a significant influence on
many parts of the earth's environment (Gore 22). Without the help of the human race, and the
listening ears of our politicians, we are going to leave this extreme crisis to the...show more content...
Another solution, and possibly the first step for the world to work together to reduce global warming,
is to put energy efficient, renewable energy, and vehicle technology solutions in place at a federal
level. California has been the only state to step up to the plate. In August 2006, the California state
legislature passed the landmark Global Warming Solutions Act which mandates that the state's
greenhouse gas emissions be rolled back to 1990 levels by 2020 (The Vote Heard around the World
1). This first–in–the–nation law puts a cap on gas emissions from power plants, refineries, and
manufacturing plants. Since the United States currently produces 70 percent of its electricity from
fossil fuels and only two percent from renewable resources, it is certain that by converting into more
efficient and renewable energy it would significantly reduce our emissions of heat–trapping gases.
Solutions for global warming include big changes, but they also include little things people can do
everyday. My proposal is to simply get the word out to everyone. Teaching children in school and
people at home how to implement steps on helping solve global warming is very important in
today's world. One thing everyone can do is simply reduce emissions from your home energy use by
using energy–efficient lighting and appliances, insulating your house, conserving hot water, and
turning off lights and computers when you're finished with them. It's

Throughout the middle of the twentieth century, until now, there has been debate over the existence
of climate change. Climate change is the increase of earth's inclusive temperature of the atmosphere,
and the side effects caused by rising temperatures. Climate change is caused by many reasons:
burning of fossil fuels, agriculture, landfills, and deforestation. Climate change is mainly caused by
greenhouse gases and humans. The effects of climate change are detrimental to earth; the effects
have lead to stronger and more intense hurricanes, a rise in temperature, and the melting of
glaciers("Global Climate Change: Effects"). Greenhouse gases are the main causes of climate
change. The sun emits sunlight which travels to earth causing it to warm up the surface, and then
the heat is radiated back towards space. This normal cycle is interrupted by greenhouse gases that
stop the heat from bouncing back into space("Global Climate Change: Causes"). The gases absorb
the heat and emit it back everywhere on earth. Because the gases are causing the temperature to rise,
it is known as the greenhouse effect. Gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect are nitrous
oxide(N2O), methane (CH4), and carbon dioxide(CO2)("Overview of Greenhouse Gases").
The burning or combustion of fossil fuels increase the amount of nitrous oxide in the
atmosphere("Global Climate Change: Causes"). Because the impact of one pound of N2O is three
hundred times greater than a pound of carbon dioxide, nitrous

Global Warming and Greenhouse Gases
The earth's climate is predicted to change because human activities are altering the chemical
composition of the atmosphere through the buildup of greenhouse gases –– primarily carbon
dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. The heat–trapping property of these gases is undisputed.
Although uncertainty exists about exactly how earth''s climate responds to these gases, global
temperatures are rising. Go to the Emissions section for much more on greenhouse gases.
Energy from the sun drives the earth''s weather and climate, and heats the earth''s surface; in turn, the
earth radiates energy back into space. Atmospheric greenhouse gases (water vapor, carbon dioxide,
and other gases) trap some of the...show more content...
Why are greenhouse gas concentrations increasing? Scientists generally believe that the combustion
of fossil fuels and other human activities are the primary reason for the increased concentration of
carbon dioxide. Plant respiration and the decomposition of organic matter release more than 10 times
the CO2 released by human activities; but these releases have generally been in balance during the
centuries leading up to the industrial revolution with carbon dioxide absorbed by terrestrial
vegetation and the oceans.
What has changed in the last few hundred years is the additional release of carbon dioxide by
human activities. Fossil fuels burned to run cars and trucks, heat homes and businesses, and power
factories are responsible for about 98% of U.S. carbon dioxide emissions, 24% of methane emissions,
and 18% of nitrous oxide emissions. Increased agriculture, deforestation, landfills, industrial
production, and mining also contribute a significant share of emissions. In 1997, the United States
emitted about one–fifth of total global greenhouse gases.
Estimating future emissions is difficult, because it depends on demographic, economic,
technological, policy, and institutional developments. Several emissions scenarios have been
developed based on differing projections of these underlying factors. For example, by 2100, in the
absence of emissions control policies, carbon dioxide concentrations are projected to be

Reflection Paper On Global Warming
In the first day of English 101 Climate Change and Multimedia class, Professor Sheila Tefft
assigned the class to write a self–reflection about our perspective on writing. I wrote that I use
recursive strategy, which is writing in the order of a thesis statement, topic sentences, evidence,
analysis, and conclusion. Knowing this approach, I thought I would be successful. However, I
encountered more challenges in this class than a success.
I encountered a challenge in the first major assignment, which was writing a research paper after
reading Mark Lynas' Six Degrees. In this research paper, we had to address our opinion on one
environmental issue, and I asked myself whether vertical farming could be a potential solution to
stopping deforestation in Brazil. The objective of this writing, according to the syllabus, was to
learn how to "summarize, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate the ideas of others as we [you]
undertake a scholarly inquiry to produce our [your] own arguments." I exactly followed this step. I
first did a general research on vertical farming and deforestation in Brazil, analyzed the information,
synthesized the main argument, and delivered my thought to my audience, who are general public
and proponents believing vertical farming is the future of agriculture.
The challenge had started when I had changed my opinion from vertical farming can stop
deforestation to vertical farming cannot stop deforestation. It was a struggle to me, as pundits have
already proven

Climate Change Is A Change
Climate change is a change in global or regional climate patterns. Climate change is a topic that is
brought up in many different genres of conversations. Whether it be brought up and discussed in
politics, school, family, or friends, some people still limit using those words when in casual
conversation. Some of those same people are the people who still deny that climate change is
happening. Climate change affects every single one of us. It affects everyone who lives on this
earth every day and has long term damages that researches can not even predict yet. A new survey
finds that 70 percent of Americans believe the climate is changing, this poll is from Monmouth
University in January, 2016. A lot of people are on the fence about supporting climate change and
question whether or not the government should take a stand for reducing climate change. As a teen
and an upcoming young adult, living in a clean and healthy world means a lot to me. Climate
change is not a recent problem, it has been happening for many years. I will be sharing both sides of
the climate change argument and explaining the steps the government could take to reduce these
changes in our environment. I will also explain why there is such a resistance among parts of the
community toward climate change.
This first article I chose to look at was "Climate Change: Should the U.S. government take
aggressive steps to address climate change?" From the issues and controversies database. This goes

Essay on Human Activity in Climate Change
This essay and its contents is designed to define and discuss the concept of my position on the
following statement: "Human activity, especially the burning of fossil fuels. It also answers
inquiries of; is it a major contributor to climate change? Do I agree or disagree?
From my research and readings, I've concluded that, the foremost effect that burning fossil fuels has
on our environment is the greenhouse effect, also known as global warming. Carbon dioxide, which
is also known as greenhouse gas is released during combustion of fossil fuels and is the cause of this
catastrophe. But yet, other problems arise amongst the burning of fossil fuels, for example the
depletion of fossil fuels, the shift of climate control, and the...show more content...
Small changes in the average temperature of the planet can translate to large and potentially
dangerous shifts in climate and weather. (http://www.epa.gov/climatechange 2012)
The uprising global temperatures have been supplemented by changes in weather and climate.
Throughout the world, many places have seen different changes in rainfall; this crisis resulted in
more floods, famines, and extreme rain, as well as additional frequent and severe heat waves. As
these changes are introduced to us the coming future, they will more than likely present challenges
to our society and our environment.
Changes of the land
Greenhouse gases act as a blanket surrounding Earth, trapping energy in the atmosphere and
causing it to warm and stay warm. As we see the heating of the earth we also see the loss of ice
and snow. The ice and snow cools the earth as well as reflect heat. Absorbing heat means more ice
melting, which means more heat is absorbed and more ice is melted, the process is a revolving
circle. Land–use change, such as deforestation, is a big contributor because trees are essentially 'wet
sticks of carbon', and so burning them both releases CO2 and prevents the trees from absorbing CO2
through photosynthesis, their method of turning sunlight, nutrients and water into energy to grow.
Making the difference
One of the solutions I've researched in solving the greenhouse effect is to increase the earth's ability
to absorb and store carbon. This

Global Warming
Global Warming, aside from pollution is one of scientists biggest concerns. Global Warming is
caused by the Greenhouse effect. There are 4 steps in the Greenhouse effect process. The first is,
sunlight radiates from the sun, through space, to the Earth's atmosphere. The second is, sunlight
enters the atmosphere and hits the Earth. Some of that sunlight turns into heat energy in the form of
infrared light. Surrounding air and land, which in turn makes the heat warm, absorbs the heat. Third,
the greenhouse gases trap infrared rays that is remitted into the atmosphere. Finally, the gas then
absorbs the light and is remitted back to the Earth's surface and warms it even more. Another cause
of Global Warming is the emissions...show more content...
Another event that would occur from global warming is the drastic rise in sea level. As the Earth
warms up, the polar ice caps will start to melt. This would put immense amounts of water into the
Earth's oceans. All cities along all the coasts would be flooded from the rise in sea level. This
would cause people to move inland, and with more people inland, it would cause a shortage of
space in some areas. With the coastal cities under water, this would cause a great economic strain on
the rest of the cities throughout the world. Global Warming would also cause extreme weather.
Today, action is occurring at every level to reduce, to avoid, and to better understand the risks that
are associated with global warming. On a national level, the U.S. Global Change Research Program
(USGCRP) coordinates the world's most extensive research effort on global warming. In addition,
the Clinton Administration is actively helping to address the challenge of global warming while, at
the same time, strengthening the economy.
On a global level, countries around the world have expressed a firm commitment to strengthening
international responses to the risks of climate change. The U.S. is working to strengthen
international action and broaden the participation from people around the world.
Communities around the world can help by trying not to emit such harmful gases

Global Warming Essay
Global warming is the process in which the Earth's temperature starts increasing. This happens
because industry, fossil fuels, agricultural processes caused by human, natural, and other gas
emissions, this factors increase greenhouse gases, greenhouse gases are made up of carbon dioxide,
methane and nitrous oxide. The greenhouse gases stay in the atmosphere and prevent the suns
warming rays to leave the Earth. So the sun's warming rays stay inside the Earth increasing its
average temperature. Global warming isn't the end of the world, it's just a natural process in which
the Earth cleans or rinse organisms.

Lastly many bodies of water become polluted thanks to all the gasses in the atmosphere that mix
with the clouds and fall as acid rain polluting rivers, and lakes and killing many animals. All of
theses factors change our daily life and can ruin whole species, and all of this is because of
temperature changes.
Many scientific methods of controlling or lowering the Earth's temperature are being researched;
these can also be called geoengineering. Geoengineering is a method in which scientists can
change the levels of greenhouse gases directly or indirectly. Also there could be methods that
prevent greenhouse gasses to be emitted. There have never been any geoengineering solutions
done on a global scale since it has to be almost proof less. But there have been some ideas that are
being use on a small scale like the iron fertilization; this is a process in which iron is injected into
the oceans to speed up the reproduction of plankton which breath carbon dioxide and emit oxygen,
this is one solution that seems to have the least side effects thanks to the reason I just presented
and also due to that plankton are the base of many marine animals food chain. So this method is
being widely researched to see if it can be done on a global scale. Not only is lowering the levels of
gases in the air important, but also lowering the level of gases we emit, and there have been many
scientific breakthroughs like solar energy or cars that run

Global Warming
Global warming is an increase in the temperature of the earth's weather. Global warming is also
known as the green house effect. Global warming is a very serious world issue. Most humans are
trying to do as much as they can to help stop global warming. Global warming has caused many
problems to the earth in addition to the humans that live here on the earth. A problem caused by
global warming is very hot summers. Some summers have had days that the temperature had
reached 30*C. Another Problem that global warming has caused is the melting of polar ice caps.
Global warming caused the polar ice caps to melt which will cause the ice to break free as well as
melt in the sea, sea levels all over the world will rise. Lastly,...show more content...
On days when it was too hot for the kids to go out their parents would tell them to stay inside the
house. When the kids have to stay inside the house the parents usually want it to stay quiet. So
the kids would probably sit on the computer, got to sleep otherwise watch TV. This affected the
kid's daily physical activity. To help stop global warming everyone should drive less take bikes, walk
or carpool whenever possible otherwise you could buy hybrid cars. On behalf of those who don't
know what carpooling is it is driving with someone to a place that you are both going to.
Second of all, global warming has caused the ozone layer to start to break. The ozone layer is a layer
that absorbs the rays of the sun. There is a very big hole in the ozone layer. The breaking of the
ozone layer has caused the suns rays to come down at the humans very sharp. The hole in the
ozone layer lets the UV enter the atmosphere; it can cause skin cancer, general cancer in addition
to many more diseases to humans. There's a list of things humans can do to help reduce global
warming including; plant a tree, carpool, take a shower instead of a bath, use less hot water, use
less hot water there is a lot more to this list.
Last but not least, global warming has caused the polar ice caps to melt. The melting of the polar ice
caps will cause the sea levels to rise all over the world. If the sea levels rise just a metre

Climate Change and World Food Supply Essay

doing some really bad things to the earth. The atmosphere is also not in good shape because of
climate change. Humans now need to think of how climate change is affecting people.
Climate change is affecting the food supply of the world.
The climate change is rapidly affecting the earth. The Greenhouse gases are what is really messing up

There are lots of pollutants in the atmosphere but the two that are important in global warming and
climate change are carbon dioxide and CFCs.
Between those two, carbon dioxide ranks number one pollutant in the atmosphere.
CFC's are bad too, but not nearly as bad as carbon dioxide. CFC's quicken global warming (Weier 1).
Greenhouse gases consist of carbon dioxide mainly and that is why we need to get rid of
greenhouse gases all together.
Believe it or not climate change affects people too. Global warming and pollution affects peoples
breathing. Lately people with asthma have had a hard tine breathing because of global warming and
pollution. Doctors have had more asthma patients in this year then in any year
(Weier 2). So now what do you people think of global warming and pollution?
The green revolution was largely based on increased energy in the form of irrigation, mechanization,
fertilizers, and pesticides.

So far the production yields in crops are negative in the low latitude countries because of climate

than that but they are harmful to the soil.
Climate change can affect rainfall intensity, weather extremes, pests, and diseases. Studies have
shown that Sub
Saharan Africa will get the worst of global climate change and pollution. Also studies show that
food production will have to grow 2 percent every year to sustain the food supply

Global warming is an increase in the earth's temperature due to fossil fuels, industry, and agricultural
processes caused by human, natural, and other gas emissions. (Melissa Phillips). This results in an
increased emission of greenhouse gases. (Caroline Quatman). Short–wave solar radiation sinks into
the Earth's atmosphere and warms its surface; while longwave infrared radiation emitted by earth's
surface is absorbed, and then re–emitted by trace gases. (Brent C. Willhoite)
Climate changes occur in our earth's atmosphere due to a buildup of greenhouse gases.

These gases trap heat and cause the greenhouse effect, rising global temperatures.(Heidi Sterrett).
Human activities add to the levels of these gasses, causing more problems. The burning of solid
waste, fossil fuels, and wood products are major causes. Automobiles, heat from homes and
businesses, and factories are responsible for about 80% of today's carbon dioxide emissions, 25% of
methane, and 20% of the nitrous oxide emissions. The increase in agriculture, deforestation, landfills,
industrial production, and mining contribute a significant share of emissions too The gases released
into the atmosphere are tracked by emission inventories. An emission inventory counts the amount of
air pollutants discharged into the atmosphere. These emission inventories are used by many
organizations. NASA and meteorologists also use them.(Heidi Sterrett).
The Centers for Disease Control have been involved in studying global warming's effect on human
health. Global warming is a danger to a human's health. Its affect on climate can adversely affect
humans. Plagues have been attributed to global warming. An increase in temperature can result in
a longer life cycle for diseases or the agents spreading them. Living in a warm area makes egg
production a quicker process. Global warming will lead to more precipitation, which enables
infectious diseases to be more easily contracted and spread.

GLOBAL WARMING
The term global warming was first used in its modern sense in a science paper dated 8th August
1975 in the journal science called "Are we on the brink of a pronounced global warming?" The
words used by Broker were new and they represented a convincing recognition that there was an
amount of warming in the climate. Scientists previously used the phrase "inadvertent climate
modification" because even though it was realized that humans could bring about a change in the
environment, no–one was particularly sure as to which direction it was going. The word Global
Warming was first used by National Academy of Sciences in 1979 in a paper called The Charney
Report, which wrote:...show more content...

they have low concentration than CO2, none of them add that much warmth to the atmosphere as
much as CO2 does. To understand the impacts of all gases together, scientists usually talk about all
greenhouse gases in terms of the commensurate amount of CO2. Yearly emissions of 'carbon

Rising temperatures worsen smog pollution and increase the number of "bad air days" wherein it

dangerous for people who suffer from respiratory diseases like asthma. Unhealthy air pollution will
keep getting worse as the climate changes. Across the globe, climate change is the reason for making
hot summer days hotter and stretching their numbers to never ending heat waves. As the temperature

just discomfort. Record highs in the summer of 2010 were seen in more than 37 states of the U.S.,

Global Warming
Our planet's atmosphere traps energy just like a greenhouse. Energy from the Sun can enter the
Earth's atmosphere, but not all of it can easily find its way out again.
What blocks the Sun's energy from escaping from the Earth? Unlike a greenhouse, the Earth does not
have a layer of glass over it! Instead, molecules in our atmosphere called greenhouse gasses absorb
the heat. Greenhouse gasses include water vapor, methane, ozone, nitrous oxide, and carbon dioxide.
There may not be much of some of these gasses in our atmosphere, but they can have a big impact.
Each greenhouse gas molecule is made of three or more atoms that are bonded loosely together.
These molecules are able to...show more content...
About 30 gases produced by human activity have been identified as contributing to the greenhouse
effect. These are sometimes called greenhouse gases. The main ones are carbon dioxide, methane,
CFCs and nitrous oxide. Sunlight reaches the Earth's surface, is reflected off it, and is prevented
from escaping from the atmosphere by this layer of gases, which acts like glass in a greenhouse.
Up to a point, the greenhouse effect is a natural process, and naturally occuring carbon dioxide is not
dangerous. Without greenhouse gases, the average temperature of the Earth would be –19C , in
other words, too cold for us to live. However, the concentration of the greenhouse gases in the
atmosphere has changed dramatically: since the 18th century, carbon dioxide has increased by 30%.
There is disagreement among scientists about the seriousness of global warming. Most scientists
agree that the global temperature is rising. They do not agree on more specific elements of the
issue: How much will it warm up? What will happen if it does warm up? How far are humans
responsible? What should we do to stop it?
Scientists believe that if we go on producing gases at the rate we do now, it is likely that the Earth's
average temperature will rise by about 0.3 degrees C every ten years. This

Climate Changes And Climate Change
When you hear the words "climate change" what comes to mind? Probably weather and the
changes. Many of us watch the news or use an app on our cellphones/electronic devices to keep
an eye on the weather for the day, week, or even the month. But, there is actually a difference
between weather and climate. Weather is actually "the changes we see and feel outside from day
to day. It might rain one day and be sunny the next. Weather also changes from place to place"
(Dunbar, 2014). Whereas "climate is the usual weather of a place. Climate can be different for
different seasons. Different places can have different climates" (Dunbar, 2014). This paper will
focus on the ins and outs of climate change, specifically focusing on what climate change...show

But many climate scientists will tell you that this change in climate is due to humans and their
activities. It is said that humans release greenhouse gases and "if emissions continue unchecked,
they say the global warming could ultimately exceed 8 degrees Fahrenheit, which would transform
the planet and undermine its capacity to support a large human population" (Gillis, 2015). To
make it easier to understand, as sunlight reaches the Earth's surface there are two things that can
be done, one; it can either be reflected back into space or two, it can be absorbed by the Earth.
Once the Earth absorbs the sunlight, it then releases some energy back into the atmosphere as
infrared radiation, also known as heat. Then these greenhouse gases tend to act like a "blanket,"
therefore making the Earth warmer than it would be otherwise. This process is what we call the
"greenhouse effect." The reason scientists say that climate change is caused by humans is that it's
simple, humans drive, cook food, and even heat or cool their homes, which release gases such as,
carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4 ), and water vapor (H2O).
According to a study in October 2015, "Earth had warmed by about 1.7 degrees Fahrenheit since
1880 when records begin at a global scale. Which includes the surface of the ocean. The warming
is greater over land and greater still in the Arctic and parts of Antarctica" (Gillis, 2015). Although
an increase of warmth of 1.7 degrees doesn't seem like it's a big deal,

Global Warming is due to the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is a naturally occurring
process that aids in heating the Earth's surface and atmosphere. It results from the fact that certain
atmospheric gases, such as carbon dioxide, water vapor, and methane, are able to change the energy
balance of the planet by being able to absorb longwave radiation from the Earth's surface. Without
the greenhouse effect, life on this planet would probably not exist as the average temperature of the
Earth would be a chilly –18 degrees Celsius, rather than the present 15 degrees Celsius.
As energy from the sun passes through the atmosphere a number of things take place. A portion of
the energy (26 %...show more content...
The now warmer atmospheric greenhouse gas molecules begin radiating longwave energy in all
directions. Over 90 % of this emission of longwave energy is directed back to the Earth's surface
where it once again is absorbed by the surface. The heating of the ground by the longwave radiation
causes the ground surface to once again radiate repeating the cycle described above, again and
again, until no more longwave is available for absorption.
The amount of heat energy added to the atmosphere by the greenhouse effect is controlled by the
concentration of greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere. All of the major greenhouse gases have
increased in concentration since the beginning of the industrial revolution (about 1700 A.D.). As a
result of these higher concentrations, scientists predict that the greenhouse effect will be enhanced
and the Earth's climate will become warmer. Predicting the amount of warming is accomplished by
computer modeling. Computer models suggest that a doubling of the concentration of the main
greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide, may raise the average global temperature between 1 and 3 degrees
Celsius. However, the numeric equations of computer models do not accurately simulate the effects
of a number of possible negative feedbacks. For example, many of the models cannot properly
simulated the negative effects that increased cloud cover would have on

Abstract
People are generally unaware of climate change. The government has put into action activities that
will help raise awareness of this such as the "Earth Day". This may provide information to most
but, people in rural areas seem to be less educated on climate change than those in city areas who are
most affected by the government's programs. Though most of the people are saying that they are
truly aware of the environment, it is still not assured that they have high knowledge about the
climate change.

Having more sources of information can add up to the knowledge of each student. But these sources
can also give misconceptions about the information of what they are reading. This may be a problem
especially about their knowledge about the happenings in the environment.
There are many common conceptions about the climate change. An example of it is that burning
fossil fuels uses the ozone layer up. Burning is a chemical process and also follows the law of
conservation of matter. Combustion only combines the oxygen and carbon and does not disappear
when it is burnt. Another misconception about the climate change is that global warming is caused by
the hole in the ozone layer because it allows more radiation to enter the earth. That is incorrect
since it is only caused by the increase of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. It is true that the hole
in the ozone layer lets in more radiation like UV (Ultraviolet) Radiation but it is not a great factor of
the global warming.
Being aware about the environment is a very important matter. Students or teenagers nowadays are
more curious about anything else but environment. They are more curious to technology than
climate change which is bad for everyone. Students must at least be able to know the reason of the
climate change in our environment. Although based on the data gathered, some students do not even
know those reasons.

process that keeps earths temperature at a livable rate is called the greenhouse effect. The energy
from the sun warms up the earth when the rays from the sun are absorbed by greenhouse gasses. The
gasses then become trapped in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane and nitrous
oxide are the most common greenhouse gasses. Greenhouse gases cause the radiant heat of the sun to
be trapped in the Earths lower atmosphere which causes global warming. If there weren't any
greenhouse gasses, the earth would be really cold due to very little sun rays being absorbed on the
earth. Global warming can and...show more content...
Every time the temperature keeps rising, the more carbon dioxide will be released. When this
process gets going, it is very hard to keep in control. Methane is another greenhouse gas. Methane is
a greenhouse gas whose molecules absorb heat trying to escape to space. Natural sources include
wetlands, swamps and marshes, termites, and oceans. (Methane) Methane gases are released into the
atmosphere. Atmospheric methane has doubled since the Industrial Revolution and has "contributed
20 percent to the enhancement of the greenhouse effect, second only to carbon dioxide". (Methane)
A major effect of global warming is there will be higher temperatures and it will affect how the
water cycle works. Places on the earth will receive more rain than others. There will be a great
amount of evaporation going on from the rivers, lakes and oceans due to a increase in the
temperature. This could be a good thing for some people needing rain and a bad thing for other
people who get to much rain. While the temperature is on the rise there will be greater amount of
rains all over. In return with all of the rains this could help farmers. It would extend the growing
season for crops. This would greatly help out the farmers because they would be making more
money. While this is the positive side of the rain, this could also hurt the farmers. There are some
crops that out there that will die with to much rain. There

Thesis Statement : Global Warming
Thesis Statement: Global warming is a growing concern of scientists and researchers who believe
that it is a serious problem for our planet. The concerns and research have also been questioned and
have even been called myths. Millions of people find themselves affected by these weather pattern
changes and are concerned for their futures. Activists on both sides of the argument are very
passionate and not afraid to attack each other in every way they can. There are many questions that
are still not answered, however, we continue to see drastic weather changes to Earth. We must go
beyond the arguments and learn as much as we can to stop what could possibly lead to the
destruction of our planet, our way of life and our future.
Global warming is concerned with an average increase in the temperature of the atmosphere and the
increase in the Earth 's surface temperature primarily due to the emission of greenhouse gases from
the burning of fossil fuels. As for the processes of global warming, they can occur from a variety of
causes. The causes include the things that are concerned with natural and human factors.
Some people believe that global warming is a myth or hoax. They believe that global warming is
being used to generate fear and panic and that those behind this movement are using it to control
people 's lives and for financial gain. "Within the community of scientists and others concerned about
anthropogenic climate change, those who are skeptics are more commonly termed

Synthesis Essay On Global Warming
Global warming has been a controversial topic for years and some have even denied its existence;
however, as more studies are being published every day in regards to our changing climate, it is
hard to ignore this growing issue and how humans contribute to it. The term greenhouse gases refers
to the group of gases that are primarily responsible for global warming and chief among these gases
is carbon dioxide. Rising carbon dioxide levels can be attributed to a combination of burning fossil
fuels such as coal, natural gas, and petroleum as well as deforestation in general ( Source A). To
slow the effects of global warming, it is important for leaders in our society to consider their
greenhouse gas emissions, especially carbon dioxide, and make...show more content...
According to an article focused on environmental awareness, "the world's average surface
temperature rose by approximately 1 degree Fahrenheit, the fastest rate in any period over the last
1000 years" (Source A). Damage has already been done to the environment but it is not the time
to throw our hands up, it is the time for leaders in all sectors to tackle this issue head on. We know
that carbon dioxide is the culprit, so now it is imperative to implement the solution and take a
hard look at who is producing the most greenhouse gases. Big changes need to take place but they
can only be done in steps and not all at once to be effective. In an excerpt from a book about
global warming, Mark Maslin brings up the point that many feel the Kyoto Protocol does not go
far enough; scientists believe that a 60% cut of greenhouse gas emissions is necessary in order to
"prevent major climate change" (Source E). A sixty percent cut of emissions should be what
countries work up to achieving but first and foremost, every country needs to agree to the Kyoto
Protocol guidelines. The Kyoto Protocol itself should not be viewed as the end in the discussion of
greenhouse gas restrictions, but rather the first stepping stone to a much broader and effective

Expository Essay On Global Warming

  • 1. Problem and Solution of Global Warming Global warming is the observed increase in the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere and oceans. Higher temperatures threaten dangerous consequences: drought, disease, floods, and lost ecosystems. From sweltering heat to rising seas, global warming's effects have already begun. Many people still believe that since the earth is so big, human beings cannot possibly have any major impact on the way the planet operates. The truth is we have grown so numerous and our technologies have become so powerful that we are now capable of having a significant influence on many parts of the earth's environment (Gore 22). Without the help of the human race, and the listening ears of our politicians, we are going to leave this extreme crisis to the...show more content... Another solution, and possibly the first step for the world to work together to reduce global warming, is to put energy efficient, renewable energy, and vehicle technology solutions in place at a federal level. California has been the only state to step up to the plate. In August 2006, the California state legislature passed the landmark Global Warming Solutions Act which mandates that the state's greenhouse gas emissions be rolled back to 1990 levels by 2020 (The Vote Heard around the World 1). This first–in–the–nation law puts a cap on gas emissions from power plants, refineries, and manufacturing plants. Since the United States currently produces 70 percent of its electricity from fossil fuels and only two percent from renewable resources, it is certain that by converting into more efficient and renewable energy it would significantly reduce our emissions of heat–trapping gases. Solutions for global warming include big changes, but they also include little things people can do everyday. My proposal is to simply get the word out to everyone. Teaching children in school and people at home how to implement steps on helping solve global warming is very important in today's world. One thing everyone can do is simply reduce emissions from your home energy use by using energy–efficient lighting and appliances, insulating your house, conserving hot water, and turning off lights and computers when you're finished with them. • 2. Throughout the middle of the twentieth century, until now, there has been debate over the existence of climate change. Climate change is the increase of earth's inclusive temperature of the atmosphere, and the side effects caused by rising temperatures. Climate change is caused by many reasons: burning of fossil fuels, agriculture, landfills, and deforestation. Climate change is mainly caused by greenhouse gases and humans. The effects of climate change are detrimental to earth; the effects have lead to stronger and more intense hurricanes, a rise in temperature, and the melting of glaciers("Global Climate Change: Effects"). Greenhouse gases are the main causes of climate change. The sun emits sunlight which travels to earth causing it to warm up the surface, and then the heat is radiated back towards space. This normal cycle is interrupted by greenhouse gases that stop the heat from bouncing back into space("Global Climate Change: Causes"). The gases absorb the heat and emit it back everywhere on earth. Because the gases are causing the temperature to rise, it is known as the greenhouse effect. Gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect are nitrous oxide(N2O), methane (CH4), and carbon dioxide(CO2)("Overview of Greenhouse Gases"). The burning or combustion of fossil fuels increase the amount of nitrous oxide in the atmosphere("Global Climate Change: Causes"). Because the impact of one pound of N2O is three hundred times greater than a pound of carbon dioxide, nitrous Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Essay On Greenhouse Gases Global Warming and Greenhouse Gases The earth's climate is predicted to change because human activities are altering the chemical composition of the atmosphere through the buildup of greenhouse gases –– primarily carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. The heat–trapping property of these gases is undisputed. Although uncertainty exists about exactly how earth''s climate responds to these gases, global temperatures are rising. Go to the Emissions section for much more on greenhouse gases. Energy from the sun drives the earth''s weather and climate, and heats the earth''s surface; in turn, the earth radiates energy back into space. Atmospheric greenhouse gases (water vapor, carbon dioxide, and other gases) trap some of the...show more content... Why are greenhouse gas concentrations increasing? Scientists generally believe that the combustion of fossil fuels and other human activities are the primary reason for the increased concentration of carbon dioxide. Plant respiration and the decomposition of organic matter release more than 10 times the CO2 released by human activities; but these releases have generally been in balance during the centuries leading up to the industrial revolution with carbon dioxide absorbed by terrestrial vegetation and the oceans. What has changed in the last few hundred years is the additional release of carbon dioxide by human activities. Fossil fuels burned to run cars and trucks, heat homes and businesses, and power factories are responsible for about 98% of U.S. carbon dioxide emissions, 24% of methane emissions, and 18% of nitrous oxide emissions. Increased agriculture, deforestation, landfills, industrial production, and mining also contribute a significant share of emissions. In 1997, the United States emitted about one–fifth of total global greenhouse gases. Estimating future emissions is difficult, because it depends on demographic, economic, technological, policy, and institutional developments. Several emissions scenarios have been developed based on differing projections of these underlying factors. For example, by 2100, in the absence of emissions control policies, carbon dioxide concentrations are projected to be Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Reflection Paper On Global Warming In the first day of English 101 Climate Change and Multimedia class, Professor Sheila Tefft assigned the class to write a self–reflection about our perspective on writing. I wrote that I use recursive strategy, which is writing in the order of a thesis statement, topic sentences, evidence, analysis, and conclusion. Knowing this approach, I thought I would be successful. However, I encountered more challenges in this class than a success. I encountered a challenge in the first major assignment, which was writing a research paper after reading Mark Lynas' Six Degrees. In this research paper, we had to address our opinion on one environmental issue, and I asked myself whether vertical farming could be a potential solution to stopping deforestation in Brazil. The objective of this writing, according to the syllabus, was to learn how to "summarize, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate the ideas of others as we [you] undertake a scholarly inquiry to produce our [your] own arguments." I exactly followed this step. I first did a general research on vertical farming and deforestation in Brazil, analyzed the information, synthesized the main argument, and delivered my thought to my audience, who are general public and proponents believing vertical farming is the future of agriculture. The challenge had started when I had changed my opinion from vertical farming can stop deforestation to vertical farming cannot stop deforestation. It was a struggle to me, as pundits have already proven Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Climate Change Is A Change Climate change is a change in global or regional climate patterns. Climate change is a topic that is brought up in many different genres of conversations. Whether it be brought up and discussed in politics, school, family, or friends, some people still limit using those words when in casual conversation. Some of those same people are the people who still deny that climate change is happening. Climate change affects every single one of us. It affects everyone who lives on this earth every day and has long term damages that researches can not even predict yet. A new survey finds that 70 percent of Americans believe the climate is changing, this poll is from Monmouth University in January, 2016. A lot of people are on the fence about supporting climate change and question whether or not the government should take a stand for reducing climate change. As a teen and an upcoming young adult, living in a clean and healthy world means a lot to me. Climate change is not a recent problem, it has been happening for many years. I will be sharing both sides of the climate change argument and explaining the steps the government could take to reduce these changes in our environment. I will also explain why there is such a resistance among parts of the community toward climate change. This first article I chose to look at was "Climate Change: Should the U.S. government take aggressive steps to address climate change?" From the issues and controversies database. It also answers inquiries of; is it a major contributor to climate change? Do I agree or disagree? From my research and readings, I've concluded that, the foremost effect that burning fossil fuels has on our environment is the greenhouse effect, also known as global warming. But yet, other problems arise amongst the burning of fossil fuels, for example the depletion of fossil fuels, the shift of climate control, and the...show more content... Small changes in the average temperature of the planet can translate to large and potentially dangerous shifts in climate and weather. (http://www.epa.gov/climatechange 2012) The uprising global temperatures have been supplemented by changes in weather and climate. Throughout the world, many places have seen different changes in rainfall; this crisis resulted in more floods, famines, and extreme rain, as well as additional frequent and severe heat waves. As these changes are introduced to us the coming future, they will more than likely present challenges to our society and our environment. Changes of the land Greenhouse gases act as a blanket surrounding Earth, trapping energy in the atmosphere and causing it to warm and stay warm. As we see the heating of the earth we also see the loss of ice and snow. The ice and snow cools the earth as well as reflect heat. Absorbing heat means more ice melting, which means more heat is absorbed and more ice is melted, the process is a revolving circle. Land–use change, such as deforestation, is a big contributor because trees are essentially 'wet sticks of carbon', and so burning them both releases CO2 and prevents the trees from absorbing CO2 through photosynthesis, their method of turning sunlight, nutrients and water into energy to grow. Making the difference One of the solutions I've researched in solving the greenhouse effect is to increase the earth's ability to absorb and store carbon. This Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Essay on Global Warming Global Warming Global Warming, aside from pollution is one of scientists biggest concerns. Global Warming is caused by the Greenhouse effect. There are 4 steps in the Greenhouse effect process. The first is, sunlight radiates from the sun, through space, to the Earth's atmosphere. The second is, sunlight enters the atmosphere and hits the Earth. Some of that sunlight turns into heat energy in the form of infrared light. Surrounding air and land, which in turn makes the heat warm, absorbs the heat. Third, the greenhouse gases trap infrared rays that is remitted into the atmosphere. Finally, the gas then absorbs the light and is remitted back to the Earth's surface and warms it even more. Another cause of Global Warming is the emissions...show more content... Another event that would occur from global warming is the drastic rise in sea level. As the Earth warms up, the polar ice caps will start to melt. This would put immense amounts of water into the Earth's oceans. All cities along all the coasts would be flooded from the rise in sea level. This would cause people to move inland, and with more people inland, it would cause a shortage of space in some areas. With the coastal cities under water, this would cause a great economic strain on the rest of the cities throughout the world. Global Warming would also cause extreme weather. Today, action is occurring at every level to reduce, to avoid, and to better understand the risks that are associated with global warming. On a national level, the U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) coordinates the world's most extensive research effort on global warming. In addition, the Clinton Administration is actively helping to address the challenge of global warming while, at the same time, strengthening the economy. On a global level, countries around the world have expressed a firm commitment to strengthening international responses to the risks of climate change. The U.S. is working to strengthen international action and broaden the participation from people around the world. Communities around the world can help by trying not to emit such harmful gases Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Global Warming Essay Global warming is the process in which the Earth's temperature starts increasing. This happens because industry, fossil fuels, agricultural processes caused by human, natural, and other gas emissions, this factors increase greenhouse gases, greenhouse gases are made up of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide. The greenhouse gases stay in the atmosphere and prevent the suns warming rays to leave the Earth. So the sun's warming rays stay inside the Earth increasing its average temperature. Global warming isn't the end of the world, it's just a natural process in which the Earth cleans or rinse organisms. Now a days the Automobiles, heat from homes and businesses, and factories are responsible for about 80% of today's carbon dioxide...show more content... Lastly many bodies of water become polluted thanks to all the gasses in the atmosphere that mix with the clouds and fall as acid rain polluting rivers, and lakes and killing many animals. All of theses factors change our daily life and can ruin whole species, and all of this is because of temperature changes. Many scientific methods of controlling or lowering the Earth's temperature are being researched; these can also be called geoengineering. Geoengineering is a method in which scientists can change the levels of greenhouse gases directly or indirectly. Also there could be methods that prevent greenhouse gasses to be emitted. There have never been any geoengineering solutions done on a global scale since it has to be almost proof less. But there have been some ideas that are being use on a small scale like the iron fertilization; this is a process in which iron is injected into the oceans to speed up the reproduction of plankton which breath carbon dioxide and emit oxygen, this is one solution that seems to have the least side effects thanks to the reason I just presented and also due to that plankton are the base of many marine animals food chain. So this method is being widely researched to see if it can be done on a global scale. Not only is lowering the levels of gases in the air important, but also lowering the level of gases we emit, and there have been many scientific breakthroughs like solar energy or cars that run Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Global warming is a very serious world issue. Most humans are trying to do as much as they can to help stop global warming. Global warming has caused many problems to the earth in addition to the humans that live here on the earth. A problem caused by global warming is very hot summers. Some summers have had days that the temperature had reached 30*C. Another Problem that global warming has caused is the melting of polar ice caps. To help stop global warming everyone should drive less take bikes, walk or carpool whenever possible otherwise you could buy hybrid cars. On behalf of those who don't know what carpooling is it is driving with someone to a place that you are both going to. Second of all, global warming has caused the ozone layer to start to break. The ozone layer is a layer that absorbs the rays of the sun. There is a very big hole in the ozone layer. The breaking of the ozone layer has caused the suns rays to come down at the humans very sharp. The hole in the ozone layer lets the UV enter the atmosphere; it can cause skin cancer, general cancer in addition to many more diseases to humans. There's a list of things humans can do to help reduce global warming including; plant a tree, carpool, take a shower instead of a bath, use less hot water, use less hot water there is a lot more to this list. There are lots of pollutants in the atmosphere but the two that are important in global warming and climate change are carbon dioxide and CFCs. Between those two, carbon dioxide ranks number one pollutant in the atmosphere. CFC's are bad too, but not nearly as bad as carbon dioxide. CFC's quicken global warming (Weier 1). Greenhouse gases consist of carbon dioxide mainly and that is why we need to get rid of greenhouse gases all together. Believe it or not climate change affects people too. Global warming and pollution affects peoples breathing. Lately people with asthma have had a hard tine breathing because of global warming and pollution. Doctors have had more asthma patients in this year then in any year (Weier 2). So now what do you people think of global warming and pollution? The green revolution was largely based on increased energy in the form of irrigation, mechanization, fertilizers, and pesticides. Wicker Page 4 So far the production yields in crops are negative in the low latitude countries because of climate change. • 12. Global Warming Essay example Global Warming Global warming is an increase in the earth's temperature due to fossil fuels, industry, and agricultural processes caused by human, natural, and other gas emissions. (Melissa Phillips). This results in an increased emission of greenhouse gases. (Caroline Quatman). Short–wave solar radiation sinks into the Earth's atmosphere and warms its surface; while longwave infrared radiation emitted by earth's surface is absorbed, and then re–emitted by trace gases. (Brent C. Willhoite) Climate changes occur in our earth's atmosphere due to a buildup of greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases can occur naturally as well as a result of human activities. These gases trap heat and cause the greenhouse effect, rising global temperatures.(Heidi Sterrett). Human activities add to the levels of these gasses, causing more problems. The burning of solid waste, fossil fuels, and wood products are major causes. Automobiles, heat from homes and businesses, and factories are responsible for about 80% of today's carbon dioxide emissions, 25% of methane, and 20% of the nitrous oxide emissions. The increase in agriculture, deforestation, landfills, industrial production, and mining contribute a significant share of emissions too The gases released into the atmosphere are tracked by emission inventories. An emission inventory counts the amount of air pollutants discharged into the atmosphere. These emission inventories are used by many organizations. NASA and meteorologists also use them.(Heidi Sterrett). The Centers for Disease Control have been involved in studying global warming's effect on human health. Global warming is a danger to a human's health. Its affect on climate can adversely affect humans. Plagues have been attributed to global warming. An increase in temperature can result in a longer life cycle for diseases or the agents spreading them. Living in a warm area makes egg production a quicker process. Global warming will lead to more precipitation, which enables infectious diseases to be more easily contracted and spread. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Assignment: Global Warming GLOBAL WARMING The term global warming was first used in its modern sense in a science paper dated 8th August 1975 in the journal science called "Are we on the brink of a pronounced global warming?" The words used by Broker were new and they represented a convincing recognition that there was an amount of warming in the climate. Scientists previously used the phrase "inadvertent climate modification" because even though it was realized that humans could bring about a change in the environment, no–one was particularly sure as to which direction it was going. The word Global Warming was first used by National Academy of Sciences in 1979 in a paper called The Charney Report, which wrote:...show more content... Nitrous oxide being 300 times more powerful than carbon dioxide. Gases such as chlorofluorocarbons have been banned in many parts of the world because of their ability to degrade the ozone layer. Such gases trap the heat thousand times more than CO2 does. But because they have low concentration than CO2, none of them add that much warmth to the atmosphere as much as CO2 does. To understand the impacts of all gases together, scientists usually talk about all greenhouse gases in terms of the commensurate amount of CO2. Yearly emissions of 'carbon dioxide equivalent' have gone up by 6 billion metric tons worldwide since 1990, more than 20% increase. Irritated eyes, nose, and lungs are some of its symptoms, and is mainly dangerous for people who suffer from respiratory diseases like asthma. Unhealthy air pollution will keep getting worse as the climate changes. Across the globe, climate change is the reason for making hot summer days hotter and stretching their numbers to never ending heat waves. As the temperature rises, so are the number of illness, emergencies and deaths. In a way, the heat is causing more than just discomfort. Record highs in the summer of 2010 were seen in more than 37 states of the U.S., and in much of the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Essay on Global Warming Global Warming Our planet's atmosphere traps energy just like a greenhouse. Energy from the Sun can enter the Earth's atmosphere, but not all of it can easily find its way out again. What blocks the Sun's energy from escaping from the Earth? Unlike a greenhouse, the Earth does not have a layer of glass over it! Instead, molecules in our atmosphere called greenhouse gasses absorb the heat. About 30 gases produced by human activity have been identified as contributing to the greenhouse effect. These are sometimes called greenhouse gases. The main ones are carbon dioxide, methane, CFCs and nitrous oxide. Sunlight reaches the Earth's surface, is reflected off it, and is prevented from escaping from the atmosphere by this layer of gases, which acts like glass in a greenhouse. Up to a point, the greenhouse effect is a natural process, and naturally occuring carbon dioxide is not dangerous. Without greenhouse gases, the average temperature of the Earth would be –19C , in other words, too cold for us to live. However, the concentration of the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has changed dramatically: since the 18th century, carbon dioxide has increased by 30%. There is disagreement among scientists about the seriousness of global warming. Most scientists agree that the global temperature is rising. They do not agree on more specific elements of the issue: How much will it warm up? What will happen if it does warm up? How far are humans responsible? What should we do to stop it? Scientists believe that if we go on producing gases at the rate we do now, it is likely that the Earth's average temperature will rise by about 0.3 degrees C every ten years. • 15. Climate Changes And Climate Change When you hear the words "climate change" what comes to mind? Probably weather and the changes. Many of us watch the news or use an app on our cellphones/electronic devices to keep an eye on the weather for the day, week, or even the month. But, there is actually a difference between weather and climate. Weather is actually "the changes we see and feel outside from day to day. It might rain one day and be sunny the next. Weather also changes from place to place" (Dunbar, 2014). Whereas "climate is the usual weather of a place. Climate can be different for different seasons. Different places can have different climates" (Dunbar, 2014). This paper will focus on the ins and outs of climate change, specifically focusing on what climate change...show more content... But many climate scientists will tell you that this change in climate is due to humans and their activities. It is said that humans release greenhouse gases and "if emissions continue unchecked, they say the global warming could ultimately exceed 8 degrees Fahrenheit, which would transform the planet and undermine its capacity to support a large human population" (Gillis, 2015). To make it easier to understand, as sunlight reaches the Earth's surface there are two things that can be done, one; it can either be reflected back into space or two, it can be absorbed by the Earth. Once the Earth absorbs the sunlight, it then releases some energy back into the atmosphere as infrared radiation, also known as heat. Then these greenhouse gases tend to act like a "blanket," therefore making the Earth warmer than it would be otherwise. This process is what we call the "greenhouse effect." The reason scientists say that climate change is caused by humans is that it's simple, humans drive, cook food, and even heat or cool their homes, which release gases such as, carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4 ), and water vapor (H2O). According to a study in October 2015, "Earth had warmed by about 1.7 degrees Fahrenheit since 1880 when records begin at a global scale. Which includes the surface of the ocean. The warming is greater over land and greater still in the Arctic and parts of Antarctica" (Gillis, 2015). Although an increase of warmth of 1.7 degrees doesn't seem like it's a big deal, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Global Warming is due to the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is a naturally occurring process that aids in heating the Earth's surface and atmosphere. It results from the fact that certain atmospheric gases, such as carbon dioxide, water vapor, and methane, are able to change the energy balance of the planet by being able to absorb longwave radiation from the Earth's surface. Without the greenhouse effect, life on this planet would probably not exist as the average temperature of the Earth would be a chilly –18 degrees Celsius, rather than the present 15 degrees Celsius. As energy from the sun passes through the atmosphere a number of things take place. A portion of the energy (26 %...show more content... The now warmer atmospheric greenhouse gas molecules begin radiating longwave energy in all directions. Over 90 % of this emission of longwave energy is directed back to the Earth's surface where it once again is absorbed by the surface. The heating of the ground by the longwave radiation causes the ground surface to once again radiate repeating the cycle described above, again and again, until no more longwave is available for absorption. The amount of heat energy added to the atmosphere by the greenhouse effect is controlled by the concentration of greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere. All of the major greenhouse gases have increased in concentration since the beginning of the industrial revolution (about 1700 A.D.). As a result of these higher concentrations, scientists predict that the greenhouse effect will be enhanced and the Earth's climate will become warmer. Predicting the amount of warming is accomplished by computer modeling. Computer models suggest that a doubling of the concentration of the main greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide, may raise the average global temperature between 1 and 3 degrees Celsius. However, the numeric equations of computer models do not accurately simulate the effects of a number of possible negative feedbacks. For example, many of the models cannot properly simulated the negative effects that increased cloud cover would have on Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Climate Change Awareness Climate Change Awareness Between different Year Level and Gender Adalin, Edgar Jericho Almerol, Son Roy Decio, Louel Bernard Pascual, Ray Christopher Tonzo, Anjo John Abstract People are generally unaware of climate change. The government has put into action activities that will help raise awareness of this such as the "Earth Day". This may provide information to most but, people in rural areas seem to be less educated on climate change than those in city areas who are most affected by the government's programs. Though most of the people are saying that they are truly aware of the environment, it is still not assured that they have high knowledge about the climate change. Climate change is a development issue. Because of...show more content... Having more sources of information can add up to the knowledge of each student. But these sources can also give misconceptions about the information of what they are reading. This may be a problem especially about their knowledge about the happenings in the environment. There are many common conceptions about the climate change. An example of it is that burning fossil fuels uses the ozone layer up. Burning is a chemical process and also follows the law of conservation of matter. Combustion only combines the oxygen and carbon and does not disappear when it is burnt. Another misconception about the climate change is that global warming is caused by the hole in the ozone layer because it allows more radiation to enter the earth. That is incorrect since it is only caused by the increase of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. It is true that the hole in the ozone layer lets in more radiation like UV (Ultraviolet) Radiation but it is not a great factor of the global warming. Being aware about the environment is a very important matter. Students or teenagers nowadays are more curious about anything else but environment. They are more curious to technology than climate change which is bad for everyone. Students must at least be able to know the reason of the climate change in our environment. Although based on the data gathered, some students do not even know those reasons. Bibliography Aston, Adam, and Burt Helm (2005). "The Race against

  • 19. Global Warming and Climate Change Essay Global warming and the greenhouse effect are issues discussed by scientists all the time. A natural process that keeps earths temperature at a livable rate is called the greenhouse effect. The energy from the sun warms up the earth when the rays from the sun are absorbed by greenhouse gasses. The gasses then become trapped in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane and nitrous oxide are the most common greenhouse gasses. Greenhouse gases cause the radiant heat of the sun to be trapped in the Earths lower atmosphere which causes global warming. If there weren't any greenhouse gasses, the earth would be really cold due to very little sun rays being absorbed on the earth. Global warming can and...show more content... Every time the temperature keeps rising, the more carbon dioxide will be released. When this process gets going, it is very hard to keep in control. Methane is another greenhouse gas. Methane is a greenhouse gas whose molecules absorb heat trying to escape to space. Natural sources include wetlands, swamps and marshes, termites, and oceans. (Methane) Methane gases are released into the atmosphere. Atmospheric methane has doubled since the Industrial Revolution and has "contributed 20 percent to the enhancement of the greenhouse effect, second only to carbon dioxide". (Methane) A major effect of global warming is there will be higher temperatures and it will affect how the water cycle works. Places on the earth will receive more rain than others. There will be a great amount of evaporation going on from the rivers, lakes and oceans due to a increase in the temperature. This could be a good thing for some people needing rain and a bad thing for other people who get to much rain. While the temperature is on the rise there will be greater amount of rains all over. In return with all of the rains this could help farmers. It would extend the growing season for crops. This would greatly help out the farmers because they would be making more money. While this is the positive side of the rain, this could also hurt the farmers. There are some crops that out there that will die with to much rain. There Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Thesis Statement : Global Warming Thesis Statement: Global warming is a growing concern of scientists and researchers who believe that it is a serious problem for our planet. The concerns and research have also been questioned and have even been called myths. Millions of people find themselves affected by these weather pattern changes and are concerned for their futures. Activists on both sides of the argument are very passionate and not afraid to attack each other in every way they can. There are many questions that are still not answered, however, we continue to see drastic weather changes to Earth. We must go beyond the arguments and learn as much as we can to stop what could possibly lead to the destruction of our planet, our way of life and our future. Global warming is concerned with an average increase in the temperature of the atmosphere and the increase in the Earth 's surface temperature primarily due to the emission of greenhouse gases from the burning of fossil fuels. As for the processes of global warming, they can occur from a variety of causes. The causes include the things that are concerned with natural and human factors. Some people believe that global warming is a myth or hoax. They believe that global warming is being used to generate fear and panic and that those behind this movement are using it to control people 's lives and for financial gain. • 21. Synthesis Essay On Global Warming Global warming has been a controversial topic for years and some have even denied its existence; however, as more studies are being published every day in regards to our changing climate, it is hard to ignore this growing issue and how humans contribute to it. The term greenhouse gases refers to the group of gases that are primarily responsible for global warming and chief among these gases is carbon dioxide. Rising carbon dioxide levels can be attributed to a combination of burning fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas, and petroleum as well as deforestation in general ( Source A). To slow the effects of global warming, it is important for leaders in our society to consider their greenhouse gas emissions, especially carbon dioxide, and make...show more content... According to an article focused on environmental awareness, "the world's average surface temperature rose by approximately 1 degree Fahrenheit, the fastest rate in any period over the last 1000 years" (Source A). Damage has already been done to the environment but it is not the time to throw our hands up, it is the time for leaders in all sectors to tackle this issue head on. We know that carbon dioxide is the culprit, so now it is imperative to implement the solution and take a hard look at who is producing the most greenhouse gases. Big changes need to take place but they can only be done in steps and not all at once to be effective. In an excerpt from a book about global warming, Mark Maslin brings up the point that many feel the Kyoto Protocol does not go far enough; scientists believe that a 60% cut of greenhouse gas emissions is necessary in order to "prevent major climate change" (Source E). A sixty percent cut of emissions should be what countries work up to achieving but first and foremost, every country needs to agree to the Kyoto Protocol guidelines. The Kyoto Protocol itself should not be viewed as the end in the discussion of greenhouse gas restrictions, but rather the first stepping stone to a much broader and effective Get more content on HelpWriting.net
