What Makes An Effective Argument Ineffective?
1.The basic parts of an effective argument are a stated clearly defined issue, makes a claim, and
offers support for that claim. Sometimes an argument may also recognize opposing viewpoints and
incorporate them into the argument
2.What makes an argument ineffective is when using emotional appeals to distract a reader from a
lack of evidence. Also the use of faulty reasoning, and inaccurate facts.
3.An issue is a problem, controversy, or an idea that people can have different viewpoints about.
The term claim is a point in which a writer is trying to prove. This is typically the writer's viewpoint
on the issue. A refutation is recognizing and auguring against opposing viewpoints.

Argumentative Essay On Energy
Energy is not free! Our homes contain many, many systems that need energy. These systems come
with tons of costs that we may now have become used to. Energy has been costing us so much
money that we may not even notice it anymore. "Every year, much of the energy the U.S. consumes
is wasted through transmission, heat loss and inefficient technology –– costing American families"
(U.S. Department of Energy). We haveheating systems, cooling systems, water heating systems,
appliances, and machines that all use the energy that costs us so much. It doesn't have to be that
way; if we learned to use our energy sources and their systems more efficiently we could save
ourselves tons of money. We have heating systems that cost us. These heating systems are designed
to heat our entire house. In many homes like mine we use heating systems powered by natural gas.
Other homes may have heating systems that run off of energy sources like wood, oil, sunlight,
electricity, or propane. The most common used sources of energy for heating systems include
natural gas and electricity. Systems that use natural gas or electricity to carry out their jobs include
electric resistance heating, furnaces, and boilers. These systems use the electricity or natural gas
we provide them with every time they are in use. Because all of these systems use energy there is
room to save, we can make sure that we use them only when we need to and are keeping them up to
date with the latest energy saving

Argumentative Essay About Gender Roles
Ever since the dawn of time, women and men have been associated with specific gender roles that
can be seen controversial in the eyes of many. Traits and roles associated with a specific gender can
be either innate or learned over time. Looking into the deeper concept of gender roles and
stereotypes, it is clear that these fixed gender roles are not naturally born with, but rather taught,
learned, or influenced by external forces. A prominent example that qualifies the idea that gender
roles are not biological but rather learned by external forces is an article written by Katha Pollitt. In
"Why Boys Don't Play with Dolls," Pollitt's main argument is that gender roles that gender roles are
acquired by learning. In the text, she states the unimportance...show more content...
Porter reminiscences about his childhood experiences and how he and other boys were to strictly
follow a set of rules that make a man a "man." No crying or acting weak in front of other men, for
instance, would be idealistic for a strong man. Porter even recalls meeting a teen football player
who was deeply saddened and wanted to express his emotions. The teen, however, was in front of
his guy friends at the time and he just could not express any emotions in front of them because he
would seem weak and girlish. Peer pressure and conforming to society has pressured the boy into
falling into the trap once again. The teen learned to be tough since everyone else was tough and
did not cry. This story is similar to Pollitt's statement on how "people aspire to what is possible
and conform to what is necessary." The teen aspired to become a strong man but knew he had to
conform to society in order to do so. Pressures from other kids and parents play a huge effect on
stereotypes. The teen, if he did not conform to society, would be considered an outcast. People
ccannot handle the fact of being called an outcast or abnormal. On the other side of the spectrum,
others may agree that gender roles and stereotypes are purely biological. One might say that a child
grows up without a father or mother figure still ends up learning specific gender roles. It is nearly
impossible to have a child unscathed

In order to have a good argumentative essay, there are a few important standards of critical
thinking that is needed to be found in the essay such as the clearness, accuracy, importance or
relevance, sufficiency, depth, breath and precision that is stated by Nosich. The strength of this
argumentative essay is consider weak because it does not capture the interest of the reader and
was not persuasive enough; even though from the introduction of the argumentative essay
includes full sentences and a good opinion, the argumentative essay is all objective. The
introduction includes too much of the emotional appeals, such as when it wrote " Day after day
the number of people worshipping this icon has been growing since the birth of this creature. well
to many it may seem harmless idol but in my opinion, Mickey Mouse is an 'devil in disguise'
influencing the minds of young and old people to adopt the culture of the 'devil' which doesn't
blend will with the moral values of society and should be banned". To improve the introduction, the
writer should include of all objectives statements relative facts and appeals to the mind of people
who agree or disagree with the topic.

Argumentative Essay On Single Parents
Chris Polito Paola Brown Eng102
25 March 2008
Single Parent Struggle
For many years, children growing up in a single parent family have been viewed as different.
Being raised by only one parent seems impossible to many yet over the decades it has become
more prevalent. In today's society many children have grown up to become emotionally stable and
successful whether they had one or two parents to show them the rocky path that life bestows
upon all human beings. The problem lies in the difference of children raised by single parents
versus children raised by both a mother and a father. Does a child need both parents? Does a young
boy need a father figure around? Does the government provide help for single parents? What role do
step–parents and step–siblings play? With much speculation, this topic has become a very intriguing
argument. What people must understand is that properly raising a child does not rely on the
structure of a family but should be more focused on the process or values that are taught to these
children as they learn to mature. Children of single parents can be just as progressive with
emotional, social and behavioral skills as those with two parents.
People claim that the only way for children to gain full emotional and behavioral skills is to be
raised by both a mother and a father. When a topic such as this one has a broad amount of variables
it is impossible to simply link these problems to only having one parent. In the article, "Single–parent
families cause juvenile crime", author Robert L. Maginnis states, "Children from single–parent
families are more likely to have behavior
Polito 1 problems because they tend to lack economic security and adequate time with parents". The
simple statement that raw criminals are products of single–parent adolescence is absurd. What this
writer must understand is that it can be extremely difficult for one parent to raise a child by
themselves for many reasons. A single–parent must work full time to be able to afford to provide for
themselves and their child. They must also be able to still have time to offer an exuberant amount
of emotional time for the well being of their child. However, even though this may seem impossible,
it can be done.

Argumentative Essay On Addiction
Addiction Rough Draft Did you know that it is statistically proven that addiction is more common
than diabetes? 10% of the human population is addicted to either a drug or alcohol. A person can
be addicted to several substances, not just drugs and alcohol. By having more options of addiction,
this will increase the percentage of addicts. There is so many scenarios to addiction that anyone
around could be an addict without realizing it. Several people may believe addiction is something
that can easily fixed or they may think it is rare. What people do not know is that addiction is a
situation much more serious and goes in depth further than they may expect. It's a desire that no
one wants. It is a condition that is difficult to escape once you begin. Addicts can be so in depth
with addiction that they can not get out of it. Addiction is an action that comes with negative yet
impactful outcomes. Addiction can affect those who are around especially family members. Fit
will affect other by the actions you do. Aggression can develop and people will begin to isolate.
No one likes to be around an aggressive person. An addict can also have mood swings. Drugs or
alcohol, for example, already affect your mentally when not sober. Family members can feel like
they are the ones to be blamed. Family supports and loves one another. By seeing a family member
fall into bad habits, it would be logical that they would feel like they have failed as family. Not only
would they feel like they

Argumentative Essay On Suicide
If you bring up the subject of suicide in a room of people, it is likely that the individuals will
become quite, begin to become uncomfortable. Why is this? Is it because of the aspect of death?
Is it the ways it is done? Society may say it is a wrong and selfish act, or that a person is not
considering others and therefore it is erroneous. We live in a society where mental health problems
are rampant, societal issues take over our daily lives and out everyday stresses impact our health,
yet our understanding of the subject that is to be avoided and carries a stigma with it that affects the
way people see those who have attempted or completed suicide. When deciding if suicide is an
ethical or morally accepted action, we must take many factors into consideration. Some of these
factors may include the culture and society in which we live and our knowledge of psychological
and biological causes. With these factors in mind, we can then adopt our own personal philosophies
on whether suicide is an ethical or moral act. While not all individuals are going to agree on a
consensus, it is important to consider others opinions and be aware of them while discussing the
subject, even if it is uncomfortable.
Definition
The term suicide is not easily defined in that it many factors play a role on what is considered an
act of suicide. An informal definition can be that it is the deliberate and voluntary act of taking ones
own life. Even with the simplest definition, it still can present

Gas Prices Argumentative Essay
In the recent news headlines, the oil crisis and the plummeting gas prices have caused a concern
among many. The topic of the oil industry and gas prices are such a controversial matter that has
been debated for years on what should be done. On a positive note if gas prices continue to drop,
those that do not work in the oil industry will be pleased with this result. With the gas prices
dropping to a significant low in the past couple of years, President Obama feels as though he needs
to improve this situation. Even though, it is an upside for many, thousands of people see the
harmful effects that this can do to you and your family. Often times the workers are being laid off

oil and refined products at a steep competitive disadvantage versus foreign producers like Saudi

Argumentative Essay On Water Pollution
In recent times, a popular issue that sparks much controversy amongst the population is Pollution.
Since the Industrial Revolution, pollution has been rapidly increasing, whether it be air pollution or
soil pollution, the effects are prevalent. From the Great Barrier Reef slowly dying, to the polar ice
caps melting to climate change, pollution has been much more noticeable than in prior times.
Although, it is clear that pollution is causing great issues for our environment, many fail to
acknowledge the issue and or simply overlook the issues, especially if they do not notice how these
issues affect them personally. These effects on our environment actually impact the human body and
can affect different systems within the body such as the respiratory, reproductive orimmune system.
An issue that deserves recognition would be that of the affects of water pollution and access to clean
water on the immune system. Water is an essential factor for the survival of human beings. As a
matter of fact, life can occur on Earth because of water. Although, waster is an essential to life,
there are many in have little to no access to clean water. Water is necessary because it can help
nutrients travel within the body as well as filter out the kidneys. If one was to drink polluted water,
then they are exposing their body's systems to harmful bacteria that can harm the different systems
such as the respiratory, immune and nerve system. Exposure to water pollution and lack of access to

Argumentative Essay On Sexual Abuse
Imagine being robbed of your innocence in a matter of seconds. Imagine not being able to speak out
due to threats and fear of seeking help and not being taken seriously. Troubling, is it not? Sexual
abuse has always been a problem in society that can affect anyone. Sexual abuse brings along many
negative outcomes; however, throughout the years, sexual abuse has been a factor that has always
been ignored. Even though sexual abuse has had many attempts to be avoided in various
environments, all have failed. Many individuals tend to misinterpret sexual abuse and it's true
delicacy. Although sexual abuse is often a violation against women, both genders can be victims.
Victims can succumb to mental disorders, including PTSD and depression, which can initiate an
unhealthy lifestyle to the point of triggering a contemplation of suicide. Nevertheless, sexual abuse
has always been biased towards women relative to men for as long as we can remember.
Considering the fact that sexual abuse can occur to both genders, it is mostly known to victimize
women. One of the most common environments for sexual abuse to take place is in academic
domains. In the view of society, men are above women; in consequence, women portray a weak
image, hence making easier casualties of sexual abuse in the educational field. Due to the fact
that students may need guidance to better excel in their career, some professors begin treating it
as an opportunity to gain sexual access from the student. To better illustrate the idea that sexual
abuse makes its way through into academic environments, take the word from the victims
themselves. "I was naive enough to think that we would talk about Wittgenstein, but after he
flopped over me a few times, telling me that I had to have sex with him... I made my escape"
(Whitley 39). Moreover, another victim said "I couldn't say 'no' because he would have responded
with rage and revenge. He would have ruined my career"(Whitley 39). In both cases, these women
were attacked by the professors for being of lesser status; they were manipulated to remain silent by
fear, threats, and their dependence on the professor for academic help. Due to the idea that women
are viewed lesser than men, inflicts professors' to

Argumentative Essay On Memorials
Memorializing events in the history of the world for any purpose has it's positives as well as the
negatives. Ranging from a memorial of a popular United States president from a loved one of a
family, memorials have generally served as a purpose of remembrance from the past of said event.
The purpose of the memorial is usually associated with a positive, uplifting feeling towards the
deceased individual or past event. While this is more or less simply defining what memorials are
for, what is the meaning behind them? What purpose do they serve besides the simplicity that they
are? Important messages from a few varied sources will give a differing viewpoint on memorials
from one to another. The first thought of memorials is the simple, generic...show more content...
Memorials are meant to be striking in the sense that you will notice said memorial and donate some
attention to it. The views of these see this attention capturing as exceedingly high for some purposes.
Some memorials are outstanding in their craftsmanship and aesthetics. This makes people wonder
what could be lurking inside the memorial, or what is near that memorial. What we've got here is a
formula, striking looks of the monument is almost guaranteed to attract some form of attention.
According to Source G, the analogy of tainting the planet with specific memorials are ridiculous, "I
imagined taking a knife and cutting into the earth, opening it up, an initial violence and pain that in
time would heal. The grass would grow back, but the initial cut would remain a pure flat surface in
the earth with a polished, mirrored surface, much like the surface on a geode when you cut it and
polish the edge. The need for the names to be on the memorial would become the memorial; there
was no need to embellish the design further. The people and their names would allow everyone to
respond and remember. The ideals of such nonsensical placements of the memorials are just irritable

Argumentative Essay About Anime
Do you watch cartoons? I do. Not bugs bunny; I'm talking about anime. Do you know what that is?
Anime is, simply put, animation that's made in Japan. I'll give you some examples of anime that
you might know. Speed Racer, Hello Kitty, Pokemon, RoboTech, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, and
a lot of the cartoons you find on Cartoon Network qualify as well, particularly Adult Swim.
Thankfully our country has gotten the rights to translate the stories from Japanese to English,
because the storylines in anime are really good. Often they're better than what Hollywood shovels
into your brain.
That's basically what anime is. Now let's talk about what it's not.
Anime is not a genre; it's an art form; a medium. From now on I want you to think of anime as
being equated with movies, books, music, etc; all the entertainment media. Just like you have movies
for kids, movies for teens, adults, so it is with anime.
All your entertainment comes in 31 flavors, right? Comedy, horror, drama, suspense, action, etc.
You file similar movies on the same shelf in the store, don't you? But you shouldn't be putting all
anime on the same shelf because anime is not a genre. It's a medium, like movies are a medium,
like books are a medium. A medium can have any genre of entertainment in it; well so can anime.
Anime is not all sex and violence as some people will tell you. When I hear someone say that anime
is sex and violence, that immediately tells me that they watched probably one particular anime show

Argumentative Essay On Anxiety Disorder
Anxiety disorders are some of the most prominent mental disorders that people face. Anyone can
have them, young or old. These disorders can be extremely debilitating and exhausting for a person
to live with. Every little thing they do could evoke the symptoms of their anxiety disorders.
Everyday these various symptoms must be overcome for them to enjoy their daily activities.
Throughout the world there are many people who suffer from anxiety disorders, a few of the most
common ones are Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, and Post–Traumatic Stress
Disorder. Generalized Anxiety Disorder also known as (GAD) is a typical anxiety disorder that
involves nervousness, tension, and chronic worrying. With chronic worrying every aspect of life
is affected. Generalized Anxiety Disorder is different from normal worrying, because the
worrying involved is intrusive, disruptive, persistent, and excessive. Melinda Smith, M.A., has
her Master's Degree in psychology; she has fifteen years of experience as a health writer and
editor, and Jeanne Segal, Ph.D., who was a psychologist and the cofounder of the website
helpguide.org describe GAD clearly in their article, "Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)." Their
article states, "Unlike a phobia, where your fear is connected to a specific thing or situation, the
anxiety of generalized anxiety disorder is diffused–a general feeling of dread or unease that colors
your whole life" (Smith, Segal). This statement describes

Argumentative Essay: The American Dream
" I don't believe that the American Dream should be reserved for those who are born into the elite
or somehow have been given an advantage over others. My growing–up experience is probably the
most important thing that guides my priorities and my work today" – Ken Salazar. The American
Dream was a powerful statement that many people believed to be true since it was first established
in 1931. It states that "it is a dream of a land in which life should be better, richer, and fuller for
everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement" – James Truslow Adams.
America is the land of the free and you should accomplish what you want in life based on what you,
alone, can accomplish. Surowiecki states that the American Dream...show more content...
Back then, many white Americans had the big houses with a white picket fence and a family of
four with a beautiful car. It was starting to become a tradition and it was almost a crime if you did
not have what other people have. Consequently, expectations were already set tremendously and
everyone else had to follow and try to aim just as high. "I believe we are being dishonest with
language minority groups if we tell them they can take full part in American life without learning the
English language"– S.I. Hayakawa. When other minority groups come to the U.S., they come
because they need to make a better life for themselves and their families. Accordingly, Americans
are the ones who cared more about gaining more improved materials because they knew minorities
group would want to be like them and they like having power. Americans have more opportunities
to achieve more because of certain advantages such as skin color, being a natural citizens, so on
and so forth. Being in a minority group is very hard because there is discrimination and such. Being
rich financially does not define who you are. Sure it may define what you have and what not but
that should not matter because at times people are not always happy with what they have.
Separation of skin color or social class is a type of discrimination that the American Dream made up.
We cannot be stuck in the mentality of what used to be

FINAL ARGUMENTATIVE RESEARCH PAPERIITechnology in The Classroom With technology
rapidly advancing in a brief period of time, elementary school students should have the opportunity to
use technology in their classrooms. The main issue with technology in schools is that there is not
enough technology being integrated into the classrooms. Technology may be expensive, but it can
help students in the long run and it can also help the environment. These are the issues that most
people gravitate to argue about on either side. However, this issue does have a potential solution
that can help our schools financially and save our environment. One of the reasons why schools
should make the switch to use technology in the classrooms is because, textbooks become heavier
over the span of a student's life. The one thing every child dreads the most about going to school, is
having to lug around their huge backpack full of textbooks and homework. The Archives of Disease
in Childhood conducted a study and found that an ordinary student's backpack weighs 15.4 pounds,
which is a generally three to four textbooks (ProCon, 2016). The common weight for a single tablet
is .75 pounds to two pounds. Pediatricians have strongly recommended students to not haul more
than 15 percent of their body weight in a backpack (ProCon, 2016). From 1994 to 2000, data
from the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission reported more than 23,000
students, from the ages of six to eighteen years old were sent to emergency rooms for back
injuries that were related to using a backpack (ProCon, 2016). Some of the injuries were
contusions, fractures, strains and sprains to the back and shoulders. Tons of people suffer from
back issues like scoliosis, this is a problem in schools because students are putting more strain on
their back. Scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine and idiopathic scoliosis is common in
children from the age of at least 10 years old

Argumentative Essay On Climate Change
CLIMATE CHANGE
Global Warming, much of what does or does not happen forty years from now rests on our actions or
inactions taken between now and then. The crucial question is whether we should pour all our
resources into mitigation – reducing our carbon emissions. According to scientists who study the
climate there are other environmental problems; "we now face a global crises in land use and
agriculture that could undermine the health, security, and sustainability of our civilization".
Rather than worry too much about emissions, we should accept the world is going to get warmer
anyway and adapt to global warming by building better flood defenses and developing drought
resistant crops.
We cannot dispute that automobiles, factories, and power plants, displace an unprecedented twenty
tons of carbon monoxide – per person – per year. There needs to be a reduction in emissions, yet we
cannot focus on this aspect of global warming alone. There are many indicators that climatic change
is influencing the frequency and intensity of natural catastrophes. If scientific global climate models
are accurate, the present problems will be magnified in the near future.
Already scientists have observed that more than 75% of the recent economic losses are caused by
natural hazards which can be attributed to wind storms, floods, droughts and other climate related
hazards. In the year 2008, the U.S. state of Iowa was on the front pages of newspapers all around
the world.

Argumentative Essay On Social Anxiety
I am interested in why so many people suffer from Social Anxiety. It is significant because social
anxiety is a huge problem in today's society that is often overlooked. I think that the advancement
of technology has had an effect on the way that people act towards each other, as well as the way
children are being raised, and the need for people to feel like they fit in, which has allowed for an
uprising of social anxiety disorder. The topic of social anxiety interests me because I think it is
something that I myself have. It confuses me as to why people care about what other people think
about themselves, myself included.
When trying to find a topic to write about, I started to think about the situations I was surrounded by.
I thought...show more content...
I mean, why does it matter what other people think of you? You are who you are and nobody can
change that. Which started me off on my journey to picking Social Anxiety as a topic to write about.
First, things first I wanted to figure out was the main thing that caused social anxiety disorder to
develop. As I was searching on the internet I came across a source that said that people with social
anxiety disorder have an imbalance of serotonin (Scutti). Serotonin is a chemical in the brain that
regulates the mood and anxiety. If there is an imbalance and you have too much you can have high
and low mood swings. This can lead to people developing social anxiety disorder because they have
high highs and extremely low lows.
After exploring a wide range of topics, we had to narrow them down to just one specific question
that we had, this was difficult for me because I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted to write about. I
knew that I wanted to write about something involving social anxiety, but I was still unsure about
the specifics. That is when we went onto the Utah State Library website and we looked for things
involving our topics that could help us deepen our understanding of what it was we were going to
write about. At first, I tried search terms like "social anxiety problems" and "social anxiety effects
on society". Then as I was scrolling through the articles about the terms I had searched I came
across an article called, "Social

  • 4. Argumentative Essay On Energy Energy is not free! Our homes contain many, many systems that need energy. These systems come with tons of costs that we may now have become used to. Energy has been costing us so much money that we may not even notice it anymore. "Every year, much of the energy the U.S. consumes is wasted through transmission, heat loss and inefficient technology –– costing American families" (U.S. Department of Energy). We haveheating systems, cooling systems, water heating systems, appliances, and machines that all use the energy that costs us so much. It doesn't have to be that way; if we learned to use our energy sources and their systems more efficiently we could save ourselves tons of money. We have heating systems that cost us. These heating systems are designed to heat our entire house. In many homes like mine we use heating systems powered by natural gas. Other homes may have heating systems that run off of energy sources like wood, oil, sunlight, electricity, or propane. The most common used sources of energy for heating systems include natural gas and electricity. Systems that use natural gas or electricity to carry out their jobs include electric resistance heating, furnaces, and boilers. These systems use the electricity or natural gas we provide them with every time they are in use. Because all of these systems use energy there is room to save, we can make sure that we use them only when we need to and are keeping them up to date with the latest energy saving Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Argumentative Essay About Gender Roles Ever since the dawn of time, women and men have been associated with specific gender roles that can be seen controversial in the eyes of many. Traits and roles associated with a specific gender can be either innate or learned over time. Looking into the deeper concept of gender roles and stereotypes, it is clear that these fixed gender roles are not naturally born with, but rather taught, learned, or influenced by external forces. A prominent example that qualifies the idea that gender roles are not biological but rather learned by external forces is an article written by Katha Pollitt. In "Why Boys Don't Play with Dolls," Pollitt's main argument is that gender roles that gender roles are acquired by learning. In the text, she states the unimportance...show more content... Porter reminiscences about his childhood experiences and how he and other boys were to strictly follow a set of rules that make a man a "man." No crying or acting weak in front of other men, for instance, would be idealistic for a strong man. Porter even recalls meeting a teen football player who was deeply saddened and wanted to express his emotions. The teen, however, was in front of his guy friends at the time and he just could not express any emotions in front of them because he would seem weak and girlish. Peer pressure and conforming to society has pressured the boy into falling into the trap once again. The teen learned to be tough since everyone else was tough and did not cry. This story is similar to Pollitt's statement on how "people aspire to what is possible and conform to what is necessary." The teen aspired to become a strong man but knew he had to conform to society in order to do so. Pressures from other kids and parents play a huge effect on stereotypes. The teen, if he did not conform to society, would be considered an outcast. People ccannot handle the fact of being called an outcast or abnormal. On the other side of the spectrum, others may agree that gender roles and stereotypes are purely biological. One might say that a child grows up without a father or mother figure still ends up learning specific gender roles. It is nearly impossible to have a child unscathed Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. In order to have a good argumentative essay, there are a few important standards of critical thinking that is needed to be found in the essay such as the clearness, accuracy, importance or relevance, sufficiency, depth, breath and precision that is stated by Nosich. The strength of this argumentative essay is consider weak because it does not capture the interest of the reader and was not persuasive enough; even though from the introduction of the argumentative essay includes full sentences and a good opinion, the argumentative essay is all objective. • 7. Argumentative Essay On Single Parents Chris Polito Paola Brown Eng102 25 March 2008 Single Parent Struggle For many years, children growing up in a single parent family have been viewed as different. Being raised by only one parent seems impossible to many yet over the decades it has become more prevalent. In today's society many children have grown up to become emotionally stable and successful whether they had one or two parents to show them the rocky path that life bestows upon all human beings. The problem lies in the difference of children raised by single parents versus children raised by both a mother and a father. Does a child need both parents? Does a young boy need a father figure around? Does the government provide help for single parents? What role do step–parents and step–siblings play? With much speculation, this topic has become a very intriguing argument. What people must understand is that properly raising a child does not rely on the structure of a family but should be more focused on the process or values that are taught to these children as they learn to mature. Children of single parents can be just as progressive with emotional, social and behavioral skills as those with two parents. People claim that the only way for children to gain full emotional and behavioral skills is to be raised by both a mother and a father. When a topic such as this one has a broad amount of variables it is impossible to simply link these problems to only having one parent. In the article, "Single–parent families cause juvenile crime", author Robert L. Maginnis states, "Children from single–parent families are more likely to have behavior Polito 1 problems because they tend to lack economic security and adequate time with parents". The simple statement that raw criminals are products of single–parent adolescence is absurd. What this writer must understand is that it can be extremely difficult for one parent to raise a child by themselves for many reasons. A single–parent must work full time to be able to afford to provide for themselves and their child. They must also be able to still have time to offer an exuberant amount of emotional time for the well being of their child. However, even though this may seem impossible, it can be done. As this Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The topic of the oil industry and gas prices are such a controversial matter that has been debated for years on what should be done. On a positive note if gas prices continue to drop, those that do not work in the oil industry will be pleased with this result. • 12. Argumentative Essay On Sexual Abuse Imagine being robbed of your innocence in a matter of seconds. Imagine not being able to speak out due to threats and fear of seeking help and not being taken seriously. Troubling, is it not? Sexual abuse has always been a problem in society that can affect anyone. Sexual abuse brings along many negative outcomes; however, throughout the years, sexual abuse has been a factor that has always been ignored. Even though sexual abuse has had many attempts to be avoided in various environments, all have failed. Many individuals tend to misinterpret sexual abuse and it's true delicacy. Although sexual abuse is often a violation against women, both genders can be victims. Victims can succumb to mental disorders, including PTSD and depression, which can initiate an unhealthy lifestyle to the point of triggering a contemplation of suicide. Nevertheless, sexual abuse has always been biased towards women relative to men for as long as we can remember. Considering the fact that sexual abuse can occur to both genders, it is mostly known to victimize women. One of the most common environments for sexual abuse to take place is in academic domains. In the view of society, men are above women; in consequence, women portray a weak image, hence making easier casualties of sexual abuse in the educational field. Due to the fact that students may need guidance to better excel in their career, some professors begin treating it as an opportunity to gain sexual access from the student. To better illustrate the idea that sexual abuse makes its way through into academic environments, take the word from the victims themselves. "I was naive enough to think that we would talk about Wittgenstein, but after he flopped over me a few times, telling me that I had to have sex with him... I made my escape" (Whitley 39). Moreover, another victim said "I couldn't say 'no' because he would have responded with rage and revenge. He would have ruined my career"(Whitley 39). In both cases, these women were attacked by the professors for being of lesser status; they were manipulated to remain silent by fear, threats, and their dependence on the professor for academic help. • 13. Argumentative Essay On Memorials Memorializing events in the history of the world for any purpose has it's positives as well as the negatives. Ranging from a memorial of a popular United States president from a loved one of a family, memorials have generally served as a purpose of remembrance from the past of said event. The purpose of the memorial is usually associated with a positive, uplifting feeling towards the deceased individual or past event. While this is more or less simply defining what memorials are for, what is the meaning behind them? What purpose do they serve besides the simplicity that they are? Important messages from a few varied sources will give a differing viewpoint on memorials from one to another. The first thought of memorials is the simple, generic...show more content... Memorials are meant to be striking in the sense that you will notice said memorial and donate some attention to it. The views of these see this attention capturing as exceedingly high for some purposes. Some memorials are outstanding in their craftsmanship and aesthetics. This makes people wonder what could be lurking inside the memorial, or what is near that memorial. What we've got here is a formula, striking looks of the monument is almost guaranteed to attract some form of attention. According to Source G, the analogy of tainting the planet with specific memorials are ridiculous, "I imagined taking a knife and cutting into the earth, opening it up, an initial violence and pain that in time would heal. The grass would grow back, but the initial cut would remain a pure flat surface in the earth with a polished, mirrored surface, much like the surface on a geode when you cut it and polish the edge. The need for the names to be on the memorial would become the memorial; there was no need to embellish the design further. The people and their names would allow everyone to respond and remember. The ideals of such nonsensical placements of the memorials are just irritable at the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Argumentative Essay About Anime Do you watch cartoons? I do. Not bugs bunny; I'm talking about anime. Do you know what that is? Anime is, simply put, animation that's made in Japan. I'll give you some examples of anime that you might know. Speed Racer, Hello Kitty, Pokemon, RoboTech, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, and a lot of the cartoons you find on Cartoon Network qualify as well, particularly Adult Swim. Thankfully our country has gotten the rights to translate the stories from Japanese to English, because the storylines in anime are really good. Often they're better than what Hollywood shovels into your brain. That's basically what anime is. Now let's talk about what it's not. Anime is not a genre; it's an art form; a medium. From now on I want you to think of anime as being equated with movies, books, music, etc; all the entertainment media. Just like you have movies for kids, movies for teens, adults, so it is with anime. All your entertainment comes in 31 flavors, right? Comedy, horror, drama, suspense, action, etc. You file similar movies on the same shelf in the store, don't you? But you shouldn't be putting all anime on the same shelf because anime is not a genre. It's a medium, like movies are a medium, like books are a medium. A medium can have any genre of entertainment in it; well so can anime. Anime is not all sex and violence as some people will tell you. When I hear someone say that anime is sex and violence, that immediately tells me that they watched probably one particular anime show Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The American Dream was a powerful statement that many people believed to be true since it was first established in 1931. Consequently, expectations were already set tremendously and everyone else had to follow and try to aim just as high. "I believe we are being dishonest with language minority groups if we tell them they can take full part in American life without learning the English language"– S.I. Hayakawa. When other minority groups come to the U.S., they come because they need to make a better life for themselves and their families. Accordingly, Americans are the ones who cared more about gaining more improved materials because they knew minorities group would want to be like them and they like having power. Americans have more opportunities to achieve more because of certain advantages such as skin color, being a natural citizens, so on and so forth. Being in a minority group is very hard because there is discrimination and such. Being rich financially does not define who you are. Sure it may define what you have and what not but that should not matter because at times people are not always happy with what they have. Separation of skin color or social class is a type of discrimination that the American Dream made up. We cannot be stuck in the mentality of what used to be Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Technology In The Classroom Argumentative Essay Page 2 of 11 ZOOM RUNNING HEAD: FINAL ARGUMENTATIVE RESEARCH PAPERIFinal Argumentative Research Paper Griselda Avila Glendale Community College FINAL ARGUMENTATIVE RESEARCH PAPERIITechnology in The Classroom With technology rapidly advancing in a brief period of time, elementary school students should have the opportunity to use technology in their classrooms. The main issue with technology in schools is that there is not enough technology being integrated into the classrooms. Technology may be expensive, but it can help students in the long run and it can also help the environment. These are the issues that most people gravitate to argue about on either side. However, this issue does have a potential solution that can help our schools financially and save our environment. One of the reasons why schools should make the switch to use technology in the classrooms is because, textbooks become heavier over the span of a student's life. The one thing every child dreads the most about going to school, is having to lug around their huge backpack full of textbooks and homework. The Archives of Disease in Childhood conducted a study and found that an ordinary student's backpack weighs 15.4 pounds, which is a generally three to four textbooks (ProCon, 2016). The common weight for a single tablet is .75 pounds to two pounds. Pediatricians have strongly recommended students to not haul more than 15 percent of their body weight in a backpack (ProCon, 2016). From 1994 to 2000, data from the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission reported more than 23,000 students, from the ages of six to eighteen years old were sent to emergency rooms for back injuries that were related to using a backpack (ProCon, 2016). Some of the injuries were contusions, fractures, strains and sprains to the back and shoulders. Tons of people suffer from back issues like scoliosis, this is a problem in schools because students are putting more strain on their back. Scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine and idiopathic scoliosis is common in children from the age of at least 10 years old FINAL ARGUMENTATIVE RESEARCH PAPERIII(Nordqvist, 2017). • 18. Argumentative Essay On Climate Change CLIMATE CHANGE Global Warming, much of what does or does not happen forty years from now rests on our actions or inactions taken between now and then. The crucial question is whether we should pour all our resources into mitigation – reducing our carbon emissions. According to scientists who study the climate there are other environmental problems; "we now face a global crises in land use and agriculture that could undermine the health, security, and sustainability of our civilization". Rather than worry too much about emissions, we should accept the world is going to get warmer anyway and adapt to global warming by building better flood defenses and developing drought resistant crops. We cannot dispute that automobiles, factories, and power plants, displace an unprecedented twenty tons of carbon monoxide – per person – per year. There needs to be a reduction in emissions, yet we cannot focus on this aspect of global warming alone. There are many indicators that climatic change is influencing the frequency and intensity of natural catastrophes. If scientific global climate models are accurate, the present problems will be magnified in the near future. Already scientists have observed that more than 75% of the recent economic losses are caused by natural hazards which can be attributed to wind storms, floods, droughts and other climate related hazards. In the year 2008, the U.S. state of Iowa was on the front pages of newspapers all around the world. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Argumentative Essay On Social Anxiety I am interested in why so many people suffer from Social Anxiety. It is significant because social anxiety is a huge problem in today's society that is often overlooked. I think that the advancement of technology has had an effect on the way that people act towards each other, as well as the way children are being raised, and the need for people to feel like they fit in, which has allowed for an uprising of social anxiety disorder. The topic of social anxiety interests me because I think it is something that I myself have. It confuses me as to why people care about what other people think about themselves, myself included. When trying to find a topic to write about, I started to think about the situations I was surrounded by. I thought...show more content... I mean, why does it matter what other people think of you? You are who you are and nobody can change that. Which started me off on my journey to picking Social Anxiety as a topic to write about. First, things first I wanted to figure out was the main thing that caused social anxiety disorder to develop. As I was searching on the internet I came across a source that said that people with social anxiety disorder have an imbalance of serotonin (Scutti). Serotonin is a chemical in the brain that regulates the mood and anxiety. If there is an imbalance and you have too much you can have high and low mood swings. This can lead to people developing social anxiety disorder because they have high highs and extremely low lows. After exploring a wide range of topics, we had to narrow them down to just one specific question that we had, this was difficult for me because I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted to write about. I knew that I wanted to write about something involving social anxiety, but I was still unsure about the specifics. That is when we went onto the Utah State Library website and we looked for things involving our topics that could help us deepen our understanding of what it was we were going to write about. At first, I tried search terms like "social anxiety problems" and "social anxiety effects on society". Then as I was scrolling through the articles about the terms I had searched I came across an article called, "Social Get more content on HelpWriting.net
