3. Definition
We found three type of people among us:
1. Monolingual
2. Bilingual &
3. Multi-lingual
Bilingualism refers to the phenomenon of competence and
communication in two languages.
Bilingual person has an ability to communicate in two languages
alternately.
5. Some Misconceptions:
A real bilingual knows both languages perfectly.
Bilinguals should be able to translate on the spot, if
they can’t they are not real bilinguals.
Bilingualism is an exception.
Mixing languages is a sign of fake bilingualism and is
used to show off.
You can only become bilingual if you start when you
are a child.
If you have an accent you are not a real bilingual.
6. Benefit of being Bilingual:
1. Access to a larger world
2. Better ability to focus
3. Intellectual Gymnastic
4. Better at multitasking
5. Linguistic facilities
6. Deep understanding of the concept of “language”
