2,000 years ago, Christianity is one of the
most influential religions in world history.
Christianity is the world's largest religion, with
about 2.4 billion followers.
The Christian faith is live out within the
institution called the Church. The three major
branches of the Christian church are Roman
Catholicism, Protestantism, and Eastern
Orthodoxy.
2. Islam is a religion based on revelations
received by the prophet Muhammad in the
7th century A.D.
Muslims believe that God is one and
incomparable and that the purpose of
existence is to worship God. Muslims also
believe that Islam is the complete and
universal version of a primordial faith that
was revealed many times before.
3. Buddhism encompasses a variety of
traditions, beliefs and practices largely
based on teachings attributed to the
Buddha.
4. Confucianism is a way of life taught
by Confucius in the 6th–5th century BC.
Sometimes viewed as a philosophy,
sometimes as a religion, Confucianism is
perhaps best understood as an all-
encompassing humanism that neither
denies nor slights heaven.
5. Hinduism is religion, or way of life. It is a
distinct intellectual or philosophical points
of view, rather than a rigid, common set of
beliefs. Hinduism, with about one billion
followers is the world's third largest religion,
after Christianity and Islam.
6. Judaism originated in the Middle East over 3500
years ago. It was founded by Moses, although
Jews trace their history back to Abraham.
Jews believe that there is only one God with whom
they have a covenant.
In exchange for all the good that God has done for
the Jewish people, Jewish people keep God’s
laws and try to bring holiness into every aspect of
their lives.
Judaism has a rich history of religious text, but the
central and most important religious document is
the Torah.
