The Department of General Services (DGS) has a mission to elevate the quality of life for the District

The Government Affairs & Communications Division is currently interviewing for a Summer Intern
based in the District of Columbia. The Government Affairs & Communications Division works to
ensure that the Department of General Services maintains proactively effective communications
internally and externally.
Interns work on a variety of tasks in the Government Affairs & Communications Division for DGS.
Interns are involved in supporting the work of the staff with development needs; including
generating reports, identifying leads and helping to respond to requests for proposals. Interns are
also involved in supporting the logistical and administrative functions. All interns work to support the
daily activities necessary to run the DGS Government Affairs and Communications Division.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
COMMUNICATIONS AND OUTREACH
• Assist with development of e-newsletter and media releases as well as Web site and Social
Media page content.
• Assist with Media Relations.
• Learn to create, execute and assess outreach campaigns and establish transparent
government communications.
DEVELOPMENT
• Help prepare reports for internal and external meetings, identify potential opportunities and
help chasematerials/information in response to requests.
• Maintain electronic archives of development correspondence and activities.
2. Job Requirement:
Ability To Show The Following Skill Sets From Prior Experiences:

GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
Daily e-filing and maintenance, including file archiving
Process and archive all photo and video documentation
Update electronic records and files
INTERNAL & EXTERNAL EVENTS
Staff Meetings, Community Meetings, and Agency Events
• Work with staff to produce necessary documents for successful event implementation
• Assist staff with the event upload into the DGS event registration database

Newspaper, or other student organizational leadership.
