• Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra will be bringing a
musical this year based on modern day retelling of a
romantic folklore from Punjab.
• The director asked Gulzar a few years back as if
why the heroine of the folklore had broken the
arrows and betrayed the hero.
Gulzar at that time casually replied to go ask the
heroine (of the folklore) herself and not him. The
work on the movie started from here.

4. WHICH CULT MOVIE?
• The nonlinear narrative and an absurdist storyline of this movie is because
director Kamal Swaroop could not “think in words” the dreams and images
that he has heavily based the movie upon.
• The movie won Filmfare Critics Award in 1989 but was not released
commercially because the movie was considered much ahead of its time.
• Finally, the movie was commercially released 25 years later in 2014 creating
some buzz. Ironically, most critics agreed (in 2014 too!) that the movie is still
much ahead of the time.

5. WHICH HIGHLY PRAISED MOVIE?
• This movie which got released last year is an Indo-German production directed by
Anup Singh.
• Set in the background of partition, the movie deals with the desire for a male child to
continue family lineage.
• The movie builds around an unusual decision taken by a father of three girls.
Frustrated with having only girls born in the family, the father declares his newborn
baby girl to be a boy and raises this newborn daughter as son.

6. WHAT WAS THE CONTROVERSY?
• Dr. Ramchandra Siras was a professor of Marathi
Literature.
• Dr. Siras had found himself in a controversy that had
got him suspended from his job. He fought the
suspension and won his case in High Court.
• He was found dead in 2010. Initially, it was
suspected as a case of suicide but later a case of
murder was registered and six men were arrested.
However, no substantial evidence was found and the
case got closed without any resolution.

the same time). It is revealed that she had waged war against something and her
not-so-supernatural death was an act of martyrdom.

• It is a series of 5 wuxia-romance saga together known as Crane-Iron series since
the first in the series is Crane Frightens Kunlun and fifth is Iron Knight, Silver
Vase.
• The fourth instalment of the series (that I want from you) is most widely known.
• A movie based on the last one- Iron Knight, Silver Vase is slated for next week
release in some countries. The name of the movie is, however, changed and kept
after the fourth one owing to its huge popularity and also to let know that it is sequel
