Introductory Comments
Welcome to the Office 365 update for July of 2017. In the next 10 minutes or
so, I’ll be giving you a quick rundown some of the latest Office 365
enhancements with the goal being to keep you informed, so you can get the
most out of Office 365.
First, I’m extending a big “Thank You” to all of you watching this update series
on YouTube. We reached over 260,000 views for the last 12 episodes
combined and the number continues to climb. Your viewership is very much
appreciated. Speaking of that, just a quick reminder that, in addition to
YouTube, we’re also available on many popular podcasting apps. If you don’t
find us on yours, be sure to let us know.
Now, on to the updates.
Planner Mobile App

Microsoft Planner provides a simple, visual way to organize teamwork. The
Office Team recently announced that the new Microsoft Planner mobile app is
available for iPhone and Android phones.

These new apps incorporate feedback we’ve received on Microsoft’s
UserVoice site since the launch of the Planner web app. In the coming
months, the development team plans to add push notifications, the ability to
create new plans from the mobile app, and Planner integration with Intune. If

idea. You can follow the link listed on the screen.

Outlook for iOS and Android

Microsoft wants to help you accomplish more with your email and calendar
while on the go. For example, we recently announced the ability to add and
edit contacts right from Outlook on iOS. This feature is also coming soon to
Android; in fact, it might be available by the time you watch this video. I’d
check for myself; but alas, I’m a Windows Phone holdout.
In addition to adds and edits, the contact card has also been redesigned to
put your contacts’ key details front and center. Tap on any name in your
messages or events to access phone numbers, email addresses and other
details, like Skype IDs, along with your contact’s picture. Tapping a phone
number allows you to choose between calling, messaging or FaceTiming your
contact. The new contact card now also displays your recent conversations,
shared attachments and any upcoming meetings you have with that person.
To create a new contact, simply go to the People tab and tap the plus sign.
You can also add a new contact directly from a message or event by tapping
the name of a person and then tapping Add Contact.
Once you’ve added a contact, you can edit their information by opening the
contact and tapping the Edit button. Any changes made in Outlook for iOS
will be synced and available across all versions of Outlook on any device.
While you can fully manage your contacts in Outlook, you can also push your
contacts to the default Contacts app on iOS and Android. This allows you to
see the name and picture of a contact when you receive a call or text
message. You can also see all their contact information directly in the smart
phone’s native Contacts app. How’s that for integration?
Outlook for Mac

Outlook for Mac recently added several highly requested features, some of
which have been available in Outlook for Windows for a while.
With the new Send Later feature, you can write an email now and schedule it
to be sent automatically at the perfect time, increasing the likelihood that it
will be opened, read, and answered. There’s at least one other scenario in

which the Send Later feature could be valuable, but I don’t want to encourage
bad habits, so I won’t go into it here.
Outlook for Mac has also introduced delivery receipts and read receipts. A
delivery receipt confirms your email message arrived in the recipient’s
mailbox, but not that the recipient has seen it or read it. A read receipt
confirms that your message was opened by the recipient.
These Outlook for Mac enhancements, along with the others listed in the June
19th
Office Blog post, help you get more done quickly and stay in control of
the day ahead.
Microsoft Forms

A few months back, a viewer lamented that Office 365 Education subscribers
had access to a tool for doing quick surveys and assessments, called Microsoft
Forms. Proving that dreams do sometimes come true, Microsoft Forms is now
available, in preview, for Office 365 commercial customers.
I recently used Microsoft Forms to create a quick survey to an internal
community here at Microsoft to see if there was interest in a new idea. The
forms are simple to create, and the results are formatted in beautiful pie
charts. Of course, the results can also be exported to Excel and there is
integration with other Office applications, too.
Those organizations that don’t mind living on the edge, in other words, their
entire Office 365 tenant is signed up for the First Release update channel, will
see the Microsoft Forms preview first, with others receiving it a bit later.
Visio + Power BI

Microsoft solutions work better together, and now, using the new Visio
visualization in Power BI Preview, say that three times fast, you can illustrate
and compare data as both Visio diagrams and Power BI visualizations in one
place. The underlying Power BI data is automatically and intelligently linked to
Visio diagrams. In just a few clicks, Visio diagrams become yet another
interactive Power BI visualization that can help you make informed decisions
faster.
Visio visualizations in Power BI offer detailed insights for nearly any diagram
type, including:
 Flow charts for identifying interdependencies;
 Fishbone diagrams for conducting a root-cause analysis; and
 Organizational charts for assessing the impact of hierarchies on
process decisions and people management.

Visio and Power BI are both visual tools. Each helps you to dissect and
visualize data in new, meaningful ways. Together, they can uncover even more
insights.

Microsoft Stream

intelligence to enterprise video for customers worldwide
Office 365 Video will transition to Microsoft Stream
Frequent, or even occasional, viewers know that everything I cover is available
elsewhere, most commonly Microsoft’s Office blog. Yet many of you keep
coming back. I’d like to think that’s direct evidence video plays a vital role in
how we communicate and can be more valuable than the written word.
In the workplace, video can be a great way to share information, educate and
train employees, drive engagement, and build culture.
On June 20th
, Microsoft announced the worldwide availability of Microsoft
Stream. the successor to Office 365 Video, which adds intelligence to the way
you interact with video content. Stream includes some interesting capabilities
that make your videos even more useful.
First, speech within the video is automatically transcribed, which enhances
accessibility and enables you to quickly find the passage you are looking.
Second, facial detection helps you visualize where each person appears in the
video and lets you jump to the segments featuring that person by clicking on
the speaker’s timeline.
Third, timecodes are displayed within the comments section and linked to the
text transcript or table of contents, making it easy to jump to a specific point
in the video.
Stream makes it easy to embed your videos in Microsoft Teams, SharePoint,
and Yammer. It’s also integrated with Office 365 Groups, with every group
being assigned a channel, making it simple to manage content across teams.
And for those whom English isn’t their first choice, my guess is you’ll be
pleasantly surprised by the speech to text feature when you upload content
your native language.

Here’s a quick recap of the most recent Office 365 updates for security and
compliance.
New threat protection status reports add visibility into malicious emails
detected and blocked for your organization. These reports supplement
existing reports in the Security & Compliance Center for ATP Safe
Attachments.
Enhanced quarantine capabilities were added so that all emails classified as
malware from both Exchange Online Protection and Advanced Threat
Protection are effectively quarantined. This enhancement builds upon the
existing quarantine experience by allowing administrators to review and
delete emails from quarantine.
New Advanced Threat Protection Safe Links Policy features include:
 Per-tenant block list, which enable administrators to block specific
URLs;
 Split Safe Links policies, which allows Safe Links policies to be
customized for specific user lists in the organization, including groups,
individuals and divisions; and
 Expanded character limit for URLs, which enables blocking or allowing
URLs with longer character lengths.
