1. CHAPTER SEVEN: MEMORY, STUDYING AND TEST TAKING
1. How do you respond when, like Norton, you have no interest in what you
are studying?
- Even if I am not interested about the subject I would not stop going to class, or
skipping doing homework. I would try my best, if I get a bad grade (which I hate) I
would try again because nothing in life is impossible. Every subject covered is
college or university is going to help me in the future.
2. How do people advise you – and what do you think of their advice?
- My family is my key to success; they are always by my side when I feel
defeated by some subject or grade. They talk to me about the subject and
together we will try to find a better way to get motivated and build a path to my
future. I know they want the best for me so I always follow their wise advice. If I
feel that their advice are not convenient, I will tell them and we will try to find
another way to help me.
3. Are you nervous when you take tests?
- Yes, but if I didn't study for the subject I would feel nervous to take the test.
4. What test taking strategies do you use?
- When I take a test, I usually organize my time separating the topics for
example: today I had to take a reading test; I had to study 6 chapters. So I
separated the chapters by days on Wednesday I study chapter one and two, on
Thursday I study chapter three and four and on Friday I study chapter five and
six finally on Sunday and Saturday I review all the chapters. I study more on me
weakest areas. I put my notes to work highlighting main ideas and key supporting
details, practice test questions, homework, lab work. Then I understand what I
memorize when I have trouble remembering something I relate the idea to
something that I already know. I organize the items of the subject I divide the
material into main point and definitions, and finally practice. In addition I recite,
rehearse and write about it focusing in the main idea, covering each keyword one
by one. My brother helps me; he asks me questions about the topic so I can try
to remember. I take my book everywhere I go, so when I have time I study.
