Part B
The city of Kyiv did not rejoice after the October 19 incident, the assassinationof
Adam Martinezand the rise to power of James Scaler only brought blackness
and violence. Jack came out with a message from Emily to participatea church
meeting. Jack's sleepless nightsand the topic of Emily'scancer had gripped him.
He looked at the text on the phone and thought again, how could he tell
someone he loved that she would not live long? Emily calledwhile he was
drowning in his own thoughts.
+Jack, Where are you? People are almost coming,
- I am coming baby, goodbye.
Emily’svoice was nothing but Jack’s hatred.
On the way to the church, the cries of poor women and children and the firing of bullets could be heard. He skimmed at the
text of his speech and tried to dwell less on topicalissues. Most people had no hope except Emily and Jack. These gatherings
were a source of hope for suffering mothers and wounded fathers. No one knew how to pursued of these gatherings -How
far will it go? Fatigue had crept into everyone's body, but Emily, in high spirits and without any signs of serious illness, did not
give up her rewarding decision to win. Jack supported Emily in any situationbecause he was sure that the only thing that
kept her is nothing but among the people.
Jack before entered the church, to greet the people outside the church, and Emily smiled when she saw Jack, which doubled
the beauty of her face.
+Hello, darling, why are you late? Everything is fine?
-Hi, Yes, no problem, I woke up a littlelate.
+okay, go now, I'm coming soon.
Jack stood out in the crowd with his black coat and green scarf. After he finished his speech with the usual enthusiasm,
people supported jack by chanting freedom party slogans.
+ Jack, you were great as always. Look, this crowd came for you.
Jack While holdingEmily's delicateface between her hands and looking into her green eyes, he said
-it was all for yourself, but you need more relaxation!
Jack's trembling was obvious, the fear of losing Emily was what was destroying Jack from within.
+Jack? Look at me! What happenedsuddenly?
Jack's wet eyes worried Emily, too.
-there is nothing baby. The thought of threateningJames made me a little worried.
+Do not be afraid. Only one week left. We are with you.
×Mr. Stevens? Jack Stevens?
-Yes,
×I am RyanWalter. I am glad to see you. I brought explosive materialsfrom Stefan, please come with me and take delivery.
-Yes, of course, thanks.
After asking Emily to present the party’s elected members to the persons, he went with Ryan to the carriage behind the
church, enough to blow up the bridge Merlin.
-Ryan, I had a tend to thank Stephen in person. Send me a warm greeting. ×This is a sheer goal that revived hope among
the people of Ukraine. I was very happy to help you.
The pleasure of victory was growing among the people every day and Emily was getting weaker too. To convince Emily to
rest, Jack had no choice but to tell the truth, the bitter truth that had been with him for long time, the cancer was
malignantand the treatment did not work. The missing sense of these last dayswas saline among the people which was
perfectly felt in the absence of Emily. The only thing that kept Jack afloat these daysit was fulfillingEmily’slast wish- the
destruction of James.
Came on February 5, the two fronts were ready for full-scale war. On the one hand, the people with thousandsof wounds
on their bodies and empty hands, on the other hand, the army to the armed teeth of the devil. Emily who was counting
the moments to see this day. Now, she was in another enemy war called cancer.
The Merlin Bridge collapsed.
The sound of persons joy could be heard, who knew what sound would be heard the next night. The joy of children or the
evil laughterof James.
Jack had entered the battlewith Emily in mind, and he did not give up easily.
Few people forget the morning of February6, 1988. The people who had celebratedthe most beautifulmorning of their
lives. The morning Emily died in Jack's absence while Jack was standingon James' body with a few sword woundson his
body. Jack hugged Emily and said with a painful smile, "We could."

There is a clear difference between idiom and proverb. There are of course many aspects in this difference but it's not
complicatedat all, and there's no need to concentrate.Even the dullest people can understandit. Well, idiomsare
expressions that doesn't literallymean what the word say. for example when you hear the phrase"littlededuction" you
think of the real meaning althoughit means "child". And here comes the proverb which is a saying that offers advice or
instruction on how to live yourlife.
Like this: "surroundingyourself with dwarfs doesn't make you a giant" And we should imply that there is no superiority
between these two; and it's totallyup to the circumstance and the content of youridiom or proverb. to get the efficiency
of understandingthe difference I guess it will be useful to read some idiomsand proverbs and try to predict their
meanings and reasoning them to yourself. To inference, these
ubjects can seem a littlebit inhospitablemattersand there
is obviouslysome argumentsabout them.
But if we remark the air aspect and try to differentiateand
couch them abroad,to ourselves and even others, you'll see
that it's a very clever game with words and of course a useful
one.
Circle the letter next to the best choice (A, B, C, or D). Use the information given in the passage.
1)when you hear the phrase"littlededuction" you think of the real meaning althoughit means "......."

ACTIVE / PASSIVE VOICE
Active voice
In most English sentences with an action verb, the subject performs the action denoted by the verb.
These examples show that the subject is doing the verb's action.
The man must have eaten five hamburgers.
The man (subject)is doing eating(verb).
Marilynmailed the letter.
Marilyn (subject) is doing the maling.
Because the subject does or "acts upon" the verb in such sentences, the sentences are said to be
in the active voice.
Passive voice
One can change the normal word order of many active sentences (those with a direct object) so that the
subject is no longer active, but is, instead, being acted upon by the verb - or passive.
Note in these examples how the subject-verb relationshiphaschanged.
Five hamburgers must havebeen eaten by the man.
Hamburgers (subject) are being eaten(verb)
The letter was mailed by marilyn.
The letter (subject) was being mailed(verb).
NOTE: Colorful parrots live in the rainforests cannot be changed to passive voice because the sentence
does not have a direct object.
To change a sentence from active to passive voice, do the following:
1. Move the active sentence's direct object into the sentence's subject slot
ACTIVE VOICE PASSIVE VOICE
Marilynmailed the letter the letter....
(direct object) (subject)
2. Place the active sentence's subject intoa phrase beginningwith the preposition by
ACTIVE VOICE PASSIVE VOICE

3. Add a form of the auxiliaryverb be to the main verb and change the main verb's form

On March 28th a murder was reported to the police station. The
incidentoccurred at the Plaza while John who appearedto be
the suspect and his twin cousins were dinning.John had shot
his cousin in the chest unexpectedlyand ran away. Her sister
had called an ambulanceand the police immediately, but
having been shot in such an essential place she unfortunately
died of heavy bleeding.
The police interrogatedher sister and she told them what she had witnessed. The police checked the security cameras
and it conveyedwhere the murderer's residence was. A letter was found in front of the door in which a series of words
were written and made no sense. After havingan investigationteam working on the case of this strange letter, the story
behind it was revealed. The abbreviationswhich seemed to be cut from the papers and then glued together again, led
them to a suicide scene that was reported laterthat afternoon.
The clue given to the police was leadingthem intoa surprising realization. The person who had committed suicide was
the same person who murdered the woman, meaning it was John. In his hand seemed to be a flight ticket to LA . As it
turned out, John had a friend there and since he hadn't booked a hotel room they suspected the lady friend of John.
They decided to meet her and doing so, it appeared to everyone that she was quite nervous about this issue.
At first some signs of discomfort started to show then she began to speak in a different accent that was obviously difficult
for her to speak to. After she was asked to look at the letter found on the door steps of John's house, looking closely at the
details, she told the police that some of the boldfacedwords also had connotationsfor different words in John's native
language which was Irish. She said she knew this because she had a degree in Irish literature. After more investigation it
became clear that the lady friend did not associate in John's or the cousin's death. The Irish words pointedout by John's
friend were an abridged version of an Irish poem. In this poem a particularname was mentioned, Lily. And this name did
not belong to anyonebut the victim's sister, one of the twin cousins.
Discovering a new suspect, the police started serious study on this new matter and after so many trying Lily finally
confessed that she had arranged her sister's murder. She had noticed John's emotionalinstabilitytherefore used this
opportunityto lure him intokilling his cousin and she finallysucceeded. According to her confession, a man whom she
was very fond of acted complementary towardsher sister and provoked her sense of jealousyand this appeared to be
her motivation. After the case was closed the person who had sent the letter to John's address remained unknown. Until
another letter enclosed with a piece of weaponry arrived at the police station and gave the police a new clue about a
new case. No one really knows who might be behind all this untilthis day.
According to the passage, which of the following statementsare 'True' (f) and which are 'False' (F)? Insert 'T' or
'F', whichever is correct, in the boxes at the right.
1) John was the person who killed his cousin.□
2) At the end of the story, the saviorshowed up and talked to the police. □

books and reading. Experiments such as this made me more sophisticatedand mature and although it came with
failure, it is how we grow after all. Maybe few years laterI wouldbe studying etymology. Who knows? This journey
inspired me to write a book and it is now in order to get accepted. I'm very excited for it to get published sooner. Wish
me luck.

To convince Emily to rest, Jack had no choice but to tell the truth, the bitter truth that had been with him for long time, the cancer was malignantand the treatment did not work. The only thing that kept Jack afloat these daysit was fulfillingEmily’slast wish- the destruction of James. Came on February 5, the two fronts were ready for full-scale war. On the one hand, the people with thousandsof wounds on their bodies and empty hands, on the other hand, the army to the armed teeth of the devil. Emily who was counting the moments to see this day. • 16. There is a clear difference between idiom and proverb. There are of course many aspects in this difference but it's not complicatedat all, and there's no need to concentrate.Even the dullest people can understandit. Well, idiomsare expressions that doesn't literallymean what the word say. for example when you hear the phrase"littlededuction" you think of the real meaning althoughit means "child". And here comes the proverb which is a saying that offers advice or instruction on how to live yourlife. Like this: "surroundingyourself with dwarfs doesn't make you a giant" And we should imply that there is no superiority between these two; and it's totallyup to the circumstance and the content of youridiom or proverb. to get the efficiency of understandingthe difference I guess it will be useful to read some idiomsand proverbs and try to predict their meanings and reasoning them to yourself. To inference, these ubjects can seem a littlebit inhospitablemattersand there is obviouslysome argumentsabout them. But if we remark the air aspect and try to differentiateand couch them abroad,to ourselves and even others, you'll see that it's a very clever game with words and of course a useful one.

  • 20. ACTIVE / PASSIVE VOICE Active voice In most English sentences with an action verb, the subject performs the action denoted by the verb. These examples show that the subject is doing the verb's action. The man must have eaten five hamburgers. The man (subject)is doing eating(verb). Marilynmailed the letter. Marilyn (subject) is doing the maling. Because the subject does or "acts upon" the verb in such sentences, the sentences are said to be in the active voice.
  • 21. Passive voice One can change the normal word order of many active sentences (those with a direct object) so that the subject is no longer active, but is, instead, being acted upon by the verb - or passive. Note in these examples how the subject-verb relationshiphaschanged. Five hamburgers must havebeen eaten by the man. Hamburgers (subject) are being eaten(verb) The letter was mailed by marilyn. • 27. On March 28th a murder was reported to the police station. The incidentoccurred at the Plaza while John who appearedto be the suspect and his twin cousins were dinning.John had shot his cousin in the chest unexpectedlyand ran away. Her sister had called an ambulanceand the police immediately, but having been shot in such an essential place she unfortunately died of heavy bleeding. The police interrogatedher sister and she told them what she had witnessed. The police checked the security cameras and it conveyedwhere the murderer's residence was. A letter was found in front of the door in which a series of words were written and made no sense. After havingan investigationteam working on the case of this strange letter, the story behind it was revealed. The abbreviationswhich seemed to be cut from the papers and then glued together again, led them to a suicide scene that was reported laterthat afternoon. The clue given to the police was leadingthem intoa surprising realization. The person who had committed suicide was the same person who murdered the woman, meaning it was John. In his hand seemed to be a flight ticket to LA . As it turned out, John had a friend there and since he hadn't booked a hotel room they suspected the lady friend of John. They decided to meet her and doing so, it appeared to everyone that she was quite nervous about this issue.
  • 28. At first some signs of discomfort started to show then she began to speak in a different accent that was obviously difficult for her to speak to. After she was asked to look at the letter found on the door steps of John's house, looking closely at the details, she told the police that some of the boldfacedwords also had connotationsfor different words in John's native language which was Irish. She said she knew this because she had a degree in Irish literature. After more investigation it became clear that the lady friend did not associate in John's or the cousin's death. The Irish words pointedout by John's friend were an abridged version of an Irish poem. In this poem a particularname was mentioned, Lily. And this name did not belong to anyonebut the victim's sister, one of the twin cousins. Discovering a new suspect, the police started serious study on this new matter and after so many trying Lily finally confessed that she had arranged her sister's murder. She had noticed John's emotionalinstabilitytherefore used this opportunityto lure him intokilling his cousin and she finallysucceeded. According to her confession, a man whom she was very fond of acted complementary towardsher sister and provoked her sense of jealousyand this appeared to be her motivation. After the case was closed the person who had sent the letter to John's address remained unknown. Until another letter enclosed with a piece of weaponry arrived at the police station and gave the police a new clue about a new case. No one really knows who might be behind all this untilthis day.
