By deanna deppeler Physical Bullying
Physical Bullying is.. A serious problem. Bullying is a form of abuse. It involves repeated acts over time attempting to create or enforce power over another group or person. This is an imbalance of power. This may be social or physical depending on the situation. Physical bullying means to actually hit and harm another person. It is the oldest kind of bullying known to man. This can be done with the aid of different instruments and can cause great damage to the victim. These acts are very dangerous and most school bullying consists of physical bullying.
Physical Bullying consists of… The same victim being targeted repeatedly. A person or group intending to hurt, embarrass, or intimidate the victim. The actions occur in a situation with an imbalance of power. For example when the bully is stronger than the victim or has a higher social standing. Hitting, pushing, tripping, slapping, spitting, stealing or destroying the victims possessions.
Where does it occur? Physical Bullying most often occurs in school but it can happen to and from school as well, like on the bus. It is most common in the middle school. This is because the kids in the middle school are at an age where they all want to fit in with their peers and this may condone bullying to fit in and be accepted. Bullying can also occur in earlier grades, high school, and even adulthood.
Rationale I decided to research physical bullying because I feel that it is a big problem and something needs to be done about it. I don’t think by any means that physical bullying is acceptable at all and I want to bring awareness to the topic. Violence is not the answer
Statistics (Out of 50) Based on the ten question survey: 1. Do you think Bullying is a problem in our school? 24 people said yes, 26 said no 2. Do you think parents and teachers do enough to stop bullying? 20 said yes, 30 said no 3. How often do you witness bullying? 16 said never, 15 said everyday, and 19 said once a week 4. Have you ever been bullied? 38 said yes, 12 said no 5. Have you ever been a bully? 25 said yes, 25 said no
Statistics cont’d 6. Do you think more bullying occurs in high school than in the middle school? 27 said yes, 23 said no 7. Do you think bullying needs to have more awareness brought to it? 28 said yes, 22 said no 8. Have you ever done anything to stop bullying? 32 said yes, 18 said no 9. Do you think the majority of parents and teachers know about all of the bullying going on in schools? 23 said yes, 27 said no 10. Do you think that being bullied as a child can affect them for the rest of their life?39 said yes, 11 said no.
Analysis of survey results I agree with the survey takers that parents and teachers do not do enough to stop bullying. I find it shocking that 38 out of 50 people admitted to have been bullied before. I find it hard to believe but also very good that 32 out of 50 people said that they have done something to stop bullying. I find the results of question 9 shocking because 23 people said that they think most parents and teachers know about all of the bullying going on in school and that is not true.
Comparison From the book Twisted, it is clear that many people are bullied throughout their school years, it can be physical bullying like what happened Tyler or cyber bullying like what happened to Bethany. The results of the survey and the book show that bullying happens a lot everywhere to kids all the time. The results of the survey relate to my research perfectly. They both show that bullying happens a lot and is a serious problem. 15 out 50 people said that they witness bullying among kids in school everyday.
