The B-52 Stratofortress bomber, nicknamed the "Whispering Death", was the most influential aircraft in the Vietnam War. It had a maximum speed of 640 mph and range of 8,800 miles without refueling. It could carry up to 108 bombs and launch the widest array of weapons in the U.S. inventory. The B-52 was vital due to its ability to perform many missions over long distances, including air-to-air refueling.
