This document provides tips for teachers to utilize Google tools in their classrooms. It lists 10 tips in numbered sections, with 1-3 sentences describing each tip. The tips include how to access cached versions of blocked websites, create custom Google search engines and Google Groups for student collaborations, use Google Docs for surveys and calendars, reopen closed tabs, organize bookmarks, use Google Tasks as a to-do list, and find facts quickly using Google Squared.
2. # 10 Get around blocked sites. Ever found a GREAT article/picture/etc. after all the blocks are lifted at school (or on a home laptop), and wanted to show it the next day in class, only to find that website is blocked? Just type "cache:website address" with website address being the address of the blocked site to use Google’s cached copy to get where you are going.
3. # 9 Create a Google Custom Search Engine. Ever needed to help students get “a leg up” in starting an assignment correctly? What better way than by beginning with your own pre-set search engine, powered by Google?
4. # 8 Make a study group with Google Groups Have an assignment that students might want to work on at home, in addition to the classroom? How about a project that they could work on independently, but share information on for a group project? This tool allows easy sharing between students with convenience and portability.
8. Reopen a closed tab. Oops! If you didn’t mean to close that tab, just press Ctrl+Shift+T to reopen it. I’m pretty sure we’ve all done this a FEW times! Saves time by not having to locate in the history! # 5
9. # 4 Use the bookmarks manager. Stay organized, rearrange bookmarks, search for bookmarks, add folders, and much more with the bookmark manager.
10. Create a personalized library Click on "Add to my shared library" to start your own personalized library where you can label books to keep them organized for each class or project. Having students be able to quickly locate online texts saves time AND energy! # 3
11. # 2 Use the Tasks as a to-do list. Use the Tasks available in Gmail as a way to stay on top of assignments, exams, and project due dates. This helps you, the teacher, AND the students!
12. And the #1 TIP for Teachers… Google Squared Save time and energy by quickly finding facts and being able to manipulate and organize the data quickly and professionally using this feature.
