Thriving, connected families are key to vibrant communities, the Downtown Baltimore Family Alliance fosters and promotes family life in Baltimore’s city Center.
Our Mission Propelled by the belief that thriving, connected families are key to vibrant communities, the Downtown Baltimore Family Alliance fosters and promotes family life in Baltimore's city center. As an independent, nonprofit alliance, we partner with local government, business, and nonprofit organizations to develop family-wise programs and policies, including initiatives for strong public schools and early childhood programs, enhanced public safety and environmental quality, and expanded recreational and cultural opportunities. We further endeavor to cultivate community by connecting families with one another and with the resources to take full advantage of life in downtown Baltimore.

  3. Hosts “town-hall” style meetings with Dr. Andres Alonso, CEO of BCPS, for parents to learn about our public schools and to voice ideas about the future of our schools. This is hosted at a BCPS school to highlight our schools and get parents in the door.
  4. Publishes DBFA’s Blog Series “school days”Every other week a parent from a local public school writes about why they chose their neighborhood school and what makes it unique
  5. This year, our work with the BEC resulted in an INCREASE in funding to city schools, rather than the projected decrease
  6. Human Capital. By providing grants through this to MANY schools, it helps the entire school system, not just a few schools. And it has a ripple effect, as the matching portion of the grant will hopefully have created annual funders to schools.
  7. Hosts two annual free family-friendly public events, one in the spring at Patterson Park (Annual Egg Hunt) and another in the fall at West Shore Park (Harbor Harvest)
  8. **Human Capital. Involved parents make the city better—and stay longer.

  10. DBFA hosts parenting seminars, such as an annual presentation by a nationally-recognized sleep expert. This year we are expanding to include more seminars, including “Meet the Big Kids’ Parents”. We would also like to do a toddler’s nutrition seminar.
  11. Partner with JCC of Greater Baltimore to bring “Hello Baby!” newborn classes to downtown parents. So popular we are expanding to include a weekend class for working parents.
  12. DBFA has helped in the marketing and fundraising efforts.
  13. Zip car partnership to reduce the use of cars
