business success. A great business located 1,000 miles
from the nearest city will have little chance of
success no matter how skilled the entrepreneur.
Many people think immediately of Silicon Valley
when they consider best places for a startup, but that
location becomes less appealing for budding
entrepreneurs when they consider the high cost of
conducting business there.
NerdWallet, a personal finance site, recently made a
list of the top cities for young entrepreneurs, and the
results may prove surprising. The list accounts for
access to funding, networking, and mentorship, as
well as economy and cost of living.

3.  Some of the top cities include Lincoln,
Nebraska; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Madison,
Wisconsin; and Arlington, Virginia.
Perhaps the least surprising entry on the list is
Arlington because it is in the Washington, DC,
metropolitan area, which has the nation’s
highest per capita income and many well-
educated young people. Many of the cities in
California known for their startups ranked rather
low on the list. Another unexpectedly high-
ranking city was Omaha, Nebraska, which
stands as one the most affordable big cities in
the top 10.
