At certain points, however, scale makes trivial operations costly, thus forcing us to re-evaluate algorithms in light of the complexity of those operations. Here, we will discuss one important way a general large scale machine learning setting may differ from the standard supervised classification setting and show some the results of some preliminary experiments highlighting this difference. The results suggest that there is potential for significant improvement beyond obvious solutions.

Linkitup is a Web-based dashboard for enrichment of research output published via industry grade data repository services. It takes metadata entered through Figshare.com and tries to find equivalent terms, categories, persons or entities on the Linked Data cloud and several Web 2.0 services. It extracts references from publications, and tries to find the corresponding Digital Object Identifier (DOI). Linkitup feeds the enriched metadata back as links to the original article in the repository, but also builds a RDF representation of the metadata that can be downloaded separately, or published as research output in its own right. In this paper, we compare Linkitup to the standard workflow of publishing linked data, and show that it significantly lowers the threshold for publishing linked research data.

The expression “garbage, garbage out” emphasizes the need for thorough testing in any Big Data and analytics implementation. Big Data testing means ensuring the correctness and completeness of voluminous, often heterogeneous, data as it moves across different stages—ingestion, storage, analytics, and visualization—producing actionable insights. What should be our testing focus? Which of the 4 V’s—variety, volume, velocity, and veracity—are most important at which stage? For example, in the ingestion stage, testing needs to focus on variety of data rather than volume. As the data moves on to the storage stage, testing needs to focus on veracity rather than velocity. Jaya Bhallamudi presents a unique approach for analyzing a typical Big Data implementation architecture to identify various testing interfaces and highlight the specific V’s as the focus of testing. The focus is based on the context of the data flow (type of source from which data originates and the type of target to which the data is destined to move) and the context of the data (source data format, target data format, the business, filter, and transformation rules applied on the data), and then mapping them to different testing strategies. Take back the testing strategies and a test automation approach that are in perfect alignment with the 4 V’s of Big Data testing.

Currently, the Yahoo EC Taiwan team provides business performance matrix to users by acquiring data from the Web production and Back office ERP systems. The reporting system is built using traditional BI technologies such as RDBMS, ETL tools, OLAP tools, home-made reporting tools, store procedures, web pages,?. With increasing usage growth of the user browsing data in the business decision on daily basis, The ability to provided data analytics on these Big Data is getting more and more important and needed. The traditional RDBMs have reaching its limit in process big data while connecting to OLAP tool. We started with the feasibility of connecting MicroStrategy with Hive 0.9 and created a prototype system to test in two scenarios – ad-hoc query to Hive and performance test of the predefined MicroStrategy Intelligent Cube for ad-hoc analytics. We did the performance test on Ad-hoc query via HiveQL and query from MicroStrategy cube, and will share the result in the session. Based on our test results, we will be able to provide the following applications to different types of users. A) Ad-hoc query running against Hadoop can allow well trained data analyst or power users to have deeper analysis on data within Hadoop. B) OLAP reports running against MicroStrategy Intelligent Cube can provide quicker response time on ad-hoc analytics with predefined data in Cube.

In their presentation, O’Brien-Scott and Cakici focused on what Enterprise AI is, why it is important, and what it takes to empower organizations to get started on a search-based AI journey and stay on track. The presentation explored the complexities of enterprise search challenges and how IA principles can be leveraged to provide AI solutions through the use of a semantic layer. O’Brien-Scott and Cakici showcased a case study where a taxonomy, an ontology, and a knowledge graph were used to structure content at a healthcare workforce solutions organization, providing personalized content recommendations and increasing content findability. The presentation explores the development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) from its inception to its current status in the modern world. The term "artificial intelligence" was first coined by John McCarthy in 1956 to describe efforts to develop computer programs capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. This concept was first introduced at a conference held at Dartmouth College, where programs demonstrated capabilities such as playing chess, proving theorems, and interpreting texts. In the early stages, Alan Turing contributed to the field by defining intelligence as the ability of a being to respond to certain questions intelligently, proposing what is now known as the Turing Test to evaluate the presence of intelligent behavior in machines. As the decades progressed, AI evolved significantly. The 1980s focused on machine learning, teaching computers to learn from data, leading to the development of models that could improve their performance based on their experiences. The 1990s and 2000s saw further advances in algorithms and computational power, which allowed for more sophisticated data analysis techniques, including data mining. By the 2010s, the proliferation of big data and the refinement of deep learning techniques enabled AI to become mainstream.
