Round 2 Infinite Bounce 20questions 10 points
Question 1 Identify this now super famous personality from this 1976 photograph.
Question 2  X and Y used the services of the same laundry man when they were at Prabhat in Pune. One day X found that one of his shirts had been replaced with a different one. On arriving at work, he found the film's young choreographer (Y) wearing his shirt. On being questioned, Y admitted that it was not his shirt, but since he had no other, he was wearing the replacement. This developed into a great friendship, since they were of the same age. They promised each other that, if Y were to turn filmmaker, he would hire X as his hero, and if X were to produce a film then he would use Y as its director. X fulfilled his end of the bargain with A, but still regrets that his friend Y did not. X and Y would make two super-hit films together, A, and B. Creative differences between Y, and X’s brother made future collaborations difficult. Identify X and Y.
Question 3 The film was nominated by India as its entry for the Best Foreign Language Film for the Academy Awards in the year following its release. The director and lead actor of the movie never made another movie together in spite of the movie’s resounding success because they feared their subsequent movies wouldn’t be so good. Producer Feroze Khan wanted the movie to be remade in Hindi with the same actor and director, but they both refused. The movie, in which Feroze Khan cast his close friend VinodKhanna, is remembered today for a very different reason. When the director of the original was asked of what he thought of the remake, he replied, “I think they missed the point”, a view that has since also been echoed by the actor. Name this movie, that has since been recognized worldwide as a classic in its genre.
Question 4 Federico Fellini took the name from an Italian dialect that describes a particularly annoying noise, that of a buzzing mosquito. In his school days, Fellini remembered a boy who was nicknamed “X" (Mosquito), because of his fast talking and constant movements, a name Fellini later applied to a fictional character in La dolce vita. This term is now used quite frequently in the English language. Give me the name or the term.
Question 5
Question 6 The director was horrified when he first read the script and thought it would ruin the image of the country abroad. He refused twice to direct the film. It was only on the third attempt by the actor that he agreed. The movie, the script of which was based on a book, won 7 Filmfare awards, including best actor, director and movie. A 120-minute U.S. version was made with additional directing and writing. It was produced by Tad Danielewski. The film was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007. Identify.
Question 7 The director of the movie worked for an advertising firm in India and was the cover designer of Jim Corbett’s Man Eaters of Kumaonand Jawaharlal Nehru’s A Discovery of India. When the firm transferred him to England, he ended up spending his three months there watching over 90 movies. He had previously met with critically acclaimed French director Jean Renoir while the latter was scouting for locations for his movie The River. He also received encouragement from John Huston, maker of such movies as The Maltese Falcon and The African Queen, who sent word to Monroe Wheeler at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art about the movie and its prodigious director. The movie’s success, however made no difference to the director financially and he continued living with his parents for a long while afterwards. Identify the movie and the director.
Question 8 X was born  to Karin, a nurse, and Erik, a Lutheran minister. X grew up surrounded by religious imagery and discussion. His father was a conservative parish minister with strict parenting concepts. X was locked up in dark closets for "infractions" like wetting the bed. X wrote in his autobiography LaternaMagica, "While father preached away in the pulpit and the congregation prayed, sang, or listened, I devoted my interest to the church’s mysterious world of low arches, thick walls, the smell of eternity, the colored sunlight quivering above the strangest vegetation of medieval paintings and carved figures on ceilings and walls. There was everything that one’s imagination could desire — angels, saints, dragons, prophets, devils, humans.“Though he was raised in a devout Lutheran household, X later stated that he lost his faith at age eight years, and only came to terms with this fact while making Y.
Question 9 Question 9
Question 10 X was born to a Bengali family in Dhaka, then part of the Bengal province of British India and now the capital of Bangladesh. As a camera assistant, he assisted director P.C. Barua on the hit 1935 movie Devdas, starring K.L. Saigal. His film A won the International Film Award at Cannes and it’s success paved the way for the Indian New Wave as a result. His most commercially successful movie, B has been cited as an inspiration by many directors for movies dealing with the same theme, notably C in 2007, the producers of which were sued by X’s daughter for plagiarism.
Question 11
Question 12 X co-wrote and directed a 16-minute short film, A (1929), with B. This film – which features a series of startling and sometimes horrifying images of Freudian nature – was enthusiastically received by the burgeoning French Surrealist movement of the time, and continues to be shown regularly in film societies to this day. A B
Question 13 "I wanted to play it with an economy of words and create this whole feeling through attitude and movement. It was just the kind of character I had envisioned for a long time, keep to the mystery and allude to what happened in the past. It came about after the frustration of doing Rawhide for so long. I felt the less he said the stronger he became and the more he grew in the imagination of the audience.” Who talking about what?
Question 14 X took nearly 14 years to shoot because of a change in relationship between A, the lead actress and the director, B. A and B were married when Xwas first conceived. Ashok Kumar was to have played the male lead, but the part was later played by C. Both the film's composer and cinematographer died during the period. Over a dozen of Bombay's top cinematographers pitched in when they had time; they however managed to maintain its uniform look. Due to a variety of different factors, A and B parted ways and the film remained incomplete. It was only when Nargis and Sunil Dutt saw the rushes of the film that they convinced A to complete it. Xmade news during the FilmfareAwards when Pran refused to accept his award for Be-Imaan because he felt that the music composer deserved a posthumous Filmfare award for his songs in X.
Question 15
Question 16 Connect: Sunshine Through The Rain The Peach Orchard The Blizzard The Tunnel Crows Mount Fuji in Red The Weeping Demon Village of the Watermills
Question 17 X reconstructs events that occurred in the capital city of __________ between November 1954 and December 1960, during the _______ War of Independence. The film was shown for several months at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque in 1988, shortly after the outbreak of the First Intifada and aroused considerable interest and public attention. In general, Left-wing commentators used the film to bolster their argument that attempts to subdue the Palestinians by brute force were futile and that Israel had to end its occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, while right-wingers asserted that Israel's situation vis-a-vis these territories, forming a territorial continuity with pre-1967 Israel, was not comparable to ______ and ______ which are separated by the Mediterranean. The comparison of Israel's situation with the ________ War continued to crop up in the Israeli political debate also after the film ceased to be shown, and remains a recurrent topic up to the present. In 2003, the it was reported that the Pentagon screened this film for officers and civilian experts who were discussing the challenges faced by the US military forces in Iraq. The flier inviting guests to the screening read: "How to win a battle against terrorism and lose the war of ideas".
Question 18
Question 19 Identify the movie from the poster.
Question 20 Cary Grant's character is wearing a woman's marabou-trimmed négligée, and when asked why replies, in an exasperated tone, “______________________!", leaping into the air on the word “_____". It is not certain if the word was used by Grant with the same connotations as it has today. The word apparently was an ad-lib by Grant. According to Vito Russo, the script originally had Grant's character say "I... I suppose you think its odd, my wearing this. I realize it looks odd... I don't usually... I mean, I don't own one of these." Russo suggests that this indicates that people in Hollywood, at least in Grant's circles, were already familiar with the slang connotations of the word. However, neither Grant himself nor anyone involved in the film ever suggested this.

Question 1 It's World War II in London. Middle aged American cosmetics maven Jody Norris, who has lived in London for twenty years, is doing her part for the war effort. Her hard and straight-forward exterior masks her loneliness, she who had never married. She solely clings to the memory of her one true romantic love, Captain Bart Cosgrove, who she has not seen since he went away during World War I and was presumed killed. She had a few wannabe beaus in her younger years while she was growing up in Pierson Falls in upstate New York, those beaus being Alec Pierson and Mac Tilton, who both wanted to marry her. But in her mind, neither was Bart Cosgrove. Instead, Jody focused on earning a living all in the name of achieving a singular goal. Despite receiving the romantic attention of a Lord Desham, Jody drops everything to meet American Lieutenant Gregory 'Grigsy' Pierson, the adopted son of Alec Pierson and his eventual wife, Corinne. Grigsy has a week long leave in London. Lord Desham comes to understand Jody's connection to Grigsy and does whatever he can to assist in her happiness.
Question 2 Norman Maine, a movie star whose career is on the wane, meets showgirl Esther Blodgett when he drunkenly stumbles into her act one night. A friendship develops, then blossoms into romance before tensions increase as Esther's career takes off while Norman's continues to plummet
Question 3 Fred, George, Doug and Howie are quickly reaching middle-age. Three of them are married, only Fred is still a bachelor. They want something different than their ordinary marriages, children and TV-dinners. In secret, they get themselves an apartment with a beautiful young woman, Kathy, for romantic rendezvous. But Kathy does not tell them that she is a sociology student researching the sexual life of the white middle-class male.
Question 4 Samuel Faulkner panics when he learns that his girlfriend of five years, Rebecca Taylor, is pregnant. Samuel is a child psychiatrist who is frustrated by children. Samuel doesn't want the baby, but Rebecca wants to settle down, even if she has to be a single mother. After a breakup and a makeover by Samuel's friend Sean, he realizes that he loves Rebecca very much, and he will love his child. Samuel proposes to Rebecca, and learns to love his child, and life.
Question 5 In this dramatic courtroom thriller, Lt. Daniel Kaffee, a Navy lawyer who has never seen the inside of the courtroom, defends two stubborn Marines who have been accused of murdering a colleague. Kaffee is known as being lazy and had arranged for a plea bargain. Downey's Aunt Ginny appoints Cmdr. Galloway to represent him. Also on the legal staff is Lt. Sam Weinberg. The team rounds up many facts and Kaffee is discovering that he is really cut out for trial work. The defense is originally based upon the fact that PFC Santiago, the victim, was given a "CODE RED". Santiago was basically a screw-up. At Gitmo, screw-ups aren't tolerated. Especially by Col. Nathan Jessup. In Cuba, Jessup and two senior officers try to give all the help they can, but Kaffee knows something's fishy. In the conclusion of the film, the fireworks are set off by a confrontation between Jessup and Kaffee.
Question 6 Four Jack-the-lads find themselves heavily - seriously heavily - in debt to an East End hard man and his enforcers after a crooked card game. Overhearing their neighbours in the next flat plotting to hold up a group of out-of-their-depth drug growers, our heros decide to stitch up the robbers in turn. In a way the confusion really starts when a pair of antique double-barrelled shotguns go missing in a completely different scam.

Producer Feroze Khan wanted the movie to be remade in Hindi with the same actor and director, but they both refused. The movie, in which Feroze Khan cast his close friend VinodKhanna, is remembered today for a very different reason.
  • 24. • 25. Question 13 "I wanted to play it with an economy of words and create this whole feeling through attitude and movement.
  • 28. Question 16 Connect: Sunshine Through The Rain The Peach Orchard The Blizzard The Tunnel Crows Mount Fuji in Red The Weeping Demon Village of the Watermills
