Media and Information Literacy by Jamal Omar From: G12 in San Andres School of Masinloc, Inc. Legal, ethical, and societal issues in media and information encompass the challenges and dilemmas related to the creation, dissemination, and consumption of media content and information in a digital age. This includes concerns about privacy, misinformation, copyright infringement, censorship, bias, and their impact on individuals, society, and the law. "Legal, ethical, and societal issues in media and information" encompass a complex landscape of challenges and considerations at the intersection of technology, communication, and society. These issues have gained prominence with the rapid evolution of digital media and the internet. In this 2000-character overview, we'll delve into key aspects of each category: 1. **Legal Issues**: - **Copyright Infringement**: Protecting intellectual property rights is a major concern, with issues like piracy, plagiarism, and unauthorized distribution of content. - **Privacy Laws**: Laws surrounding the collection, storage, and sharing of personal data are constantly evolving. Data breaches and surveillance concerns have led to stringent regulations like GDPR and CCPA. - **Cybercrime**: Legal challenges include hacking, online fraud, and cyberbullying. Governments and organizations are working to combat these threats. 2. **Ethical Issues**: - **Fake News**: Misinformation and disinformation pose ethical dilemmas. The responsibility of media outlets to fact-check and provide accurate information is paramount. - **Bias and Objectivity**: Media bias, whether political, social, or cultural, can influence public opinion. Ethical journalism seeks to maintain objectivity and fairness. - **AI and Automation**: The use of AI in content generation and decision-making raises questions about accountability and the ethical use of technology. 3. **Societal Issues**: - **Digital Divide**: Unequal access to information and technology exacerbates social inequalities. Bridging this gap is crucial for inclusive information access. - **Censorship and Freedom of Speech**: Balancing the need to combat hate speech and misinformation with preserving free expression is a contentious issue. - **Media Literacy**: Lack of critical thinking skills can lead to the spread of misinformation. Promoting media literacy is vital in the digital age. 4. **Emerging Trends**: - **Deepfakes**: Advanced AI-generated content blurs the line between truth and fiction, challenging trust in media. - **Social Media Impact**: Social platforms can amplify both positive and negative aspects of information dissemination, contributing to echo chambers and online radicalization. - **Algorithmic Bias**: Algorithms that curate content and recommendations can reinforce biases, affecting what people see and believe.

Week Three – “Contemporary Media Research”, which will bring our understanding of media psychology into the domain of Zillmann and Bryant – the pioneers of the modern study of media influence – and take us to the current state of the field. Here, we will discuss research on media violence, aggression, sexuality and racism in the media to understand how we currently see the relationship between media, the individual, and society. Notably, we will study the influence of this early scholarship on the specific study of entertainment and society.

RESPONSE TO THE 3 PERSPECTIVES BELOW. A MINIMUM OF 200 WORDS PER PERSPECTIVE. LIST REFERENCES USED WITH EACH PERSPECTIVE. RESPONSE 1 (Bonita): The media has the potential to influence the public’s attitudes and behavior by emphasizing strong points in personal characteristics, material products, belief systems or appeal to criteria that they want to project unto the general public. On the other hand, they simultaneously downplay negative aspects of products, hide characteristic flaws, and potential harm of viewpoints. I think this can be taken to the extreme in dealing with sales of merchandise where competition and profits are at stake, and ethical guidelines are blurred as to consequences or loss. I think a “quick sell” is the mindset of individuals and corporations advertising in the media where profit and sales is the desired outcome of their motivation and integrity and conscientiousness is ruled out. By portraying products, or even candidates as glamorous, and in attractive settings with appealing backgrounds, hip music, lots of lights and action, anything would be made appealing and deemed useful for personal use. The idea that a product can make a person feel young, energetic, happy, content, refreshed, revitalized, sexually attractive and appealing would capture anyone’s eye and seemingly want to buy whatever it is they are selling. Unfortunately, most of us realize that that is not the case, and we would be wasting our money to indulge in such products, or salesmen. I think, while news programs are supposed to report the facts, I believe there is bias to reporting in that intonation and background play a major part in how the viewer perceives a broadcast or news information. I also think it depends on the person. As stated in “The Social Animal” self-esteem is one variable that marks whether or not a person is influenced by data. Self esteem can result from many factors, education being one of them. Family background and social influences are another, either building or negatively impacting self esteem. I think television can produce social events as in the well publicized aggression studies. I think violence on TV causes us to be immune to crime and/or normalizing it whereas it becomes just another event in day to day life. In reality, statistics show that actual crime rates show 3.97 per 1000 in the United States (U. S. Violent Crimes, n.d.). It seems like every channel has a murder or sexual assault going on. Crime is sensationalized in that it is all about glamorous men and women in high profile situations, distorted facts, glamorous crime fighters and sensationalized court systems. The impression is that it’s O. K. to commit a crime, as long as you don’t get caught. The sad part is, there’s a lot of good out there that is public interest, and media could be reporting on those issues and events, as well as human disaster. To make an hour news show more interesting, it has to play on our emotions, otherwise they wouldn’t get ...

Week 5 Final Discussion Justin Wick 11/22/2016 4:52:18 PM The first effect I will discuss, is the belief-type effect. According to Potter (2014), "The media continually exert abelief-type effect by showing us the values used by people in the news and characters in fictional stories" (p. 295). This means that we observe the stories and characters we see, and base our lives around their values. That is why, so many shows have relatable characters. One good example of this, are classic shows, such as Leave it to Beaver and Happy Days. These shows created and showed, wholesome family values. By observing these values, people could pattern their lifestyles after the characters. In these types of shows, the characters are known to have manners and share good family values. The belief-type effect is used, to show the viewers what ideal family life is all about. A lot of today's popular programs, stray away from these wholesome values. I feel the belief-type effect, often helps to pattern our lives based on the programs we watch. The second effect I will discuss, is the emotional-type effect. According to Potter (2014), "The media exert anemotional-type effect by making us feel things. They can trigger strong emotions such as fear, rage, and lust" (p. 283). The best example of this, is the news coverage of events occurring in the world. It is quite easy to see when you watch the news, you can feel the emotion and be touched by the stories you hear. Natural disasters are a great example, as they bring the emotion of fear and upset to many effected. The coverage of the recent election, caused a lot of emotions of anger and upset. These are just some examples, of how news stories can evoke an emotional reaction. Reference Potter, J. W. (2014). Media literacy (7th ed.). Thousand Oaks, CA: Sage Publications, Inc. Strategies Cindy Harthorne 11/25/2016 11:59:16 AM Strategies By Cindy Harthorne November 25, 2016 Unless one becomes a hermit, we must agree with Potter when he says, “You have little ability to avoid media exposures or their influences…but you have a good deal of potential to shape the influences of those messages…” (Potter, 2014, p 423). I had the gift of having a skeptical mother, who trained me in critical thinking when it comes to marketing, perhaps to make me feel better about the fact that we could not afford to purchase most of what was being marketed on television. Most of the following strategies will something I will continue doing throughout the course of my life. 1. Strengthen Your Personal Locus Maintaining confidence in what I know to be true, and taking one step at a time, with unwavering commitment toward my personal goals, may not be easy, but it is what I do, and will continue to do. It is the best strategy. 2. Focus on Usefulness as a Goal I plan to limit my exposure to media to those outlets that assist me in reaching my goals. In other words, I will use it for my purposes, instead of letting it use me for.

Wizards are very useful for creating a good user experience. In all businesses, interactive sessions are most beneficial. To improve the user experience, wizards in Odoo provide an interactive session. For creating wizards, we can use transient models or abstract models. This gives features of a model class except the data storing. Transient and abstract models have permanent database persistence. For them, database tables are made, and the records in such tables are kept until they are specifically erased.
