What is Social Branding? 
Social branding is the monitoring and management of your online reputation. 
 
Where does Social Branding occur? 
Social branding occurs across the web in the blogosphere, social networking sites like 
Twitter/Facebook/Flickr/etc, on web sites, in discussion threads, through banner ads and in 
local and organic search results.  As more print and traditional media point customers to the 
Internet, social branding is branching into the brick‐and‐mortar world as well. 
 
Why does Social Branding matter? 
The statistics are staggering.  Over half the U.S. population uses the word Google as a verb for 
researching a person or product.  More than 75% of consumers research a product online 
before making a purchase and over 40% of employers research potential employees and 
applicants online.  Of these, more than 90% base their purchasing and hiring decisions off of the 
information they discover about you online.  Social media content is not owned by any single 
individual but is influenced by many.  This means total loss of control over your public image 
and reputation.  Social branding is how you take back what belongs to you ‐ your voice.  
 
When should I start Social Branding? 
Likely, you already have an online reputation.  You may not know what it, but others do.  There 
is no time like the present to start monitoring and managing that reputation.  It is a process, not
