Teaching writing
Dannae Del Campo Méndez
We, as future teacher to be, have to be conscious about which is the best way to
help our students to develop a certain skill. In this assignment, I realized how important
the process of giving feedback is to students so they can learn from their mistakes,
reinforce their learning and also have time to rewrite ideas. Along with this, they have
the opportunity to develop critical thinking, which is not easy. Thus, it is important to
have in mind to give advices to our students about the content and how organize their
ideas because teachers not only have to evaluate the final product but the entire process.
Nevertheless, it is also important for a teacher to anticipate the possible problems that
their students might have during the process of learning writing, one of them, which
caught my attention, was how students’ native culture has an effect on the learning of
second language writing because they have predispositions. Moreover, teachers need to
take into account that students often write how they speak so it is important to be sure
they understand that spoken and written language are two completely different things.
Finally, a good idea to improve the level of writing in our students is to
encourage them to read so they can become familiar with the vocabulary and structures
of the English language.
