We being the Students of the Department of Finance of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura
have formed the aforesaid association with the view of enhancing the interaction among
students of our department and have taken every possible endeavor to improve the value of
the Finance Degree Programme.
In that regard we have planned to support the interest of the undergraduates and at the same
time expect to initiate and maintain extra curricular activities which enables to promote and
facilitate the career development of the under graduates.

4. SAF Milestones
Education cannot be confined to the classroom. The importance of extra-curricular activities
in moulding a true professional cannot be over emphasized. At University of Sri
Jayewardenepura -Sri Lanka, the leading higher education institute that offers Degrees
Business Management (Finance), students are continuously encouraged and supported to
undertake numerous recreational activities and community projects.
• Annual General Meeting
“Annual General Meeting” of the Students’ Association of Finance was held on 5 th
October 2008 at the Somro Hall. The new office bearers were appointed at this event and
the Minutes and Financial Statements for the previous year were presented.
• Annual Trip
As the first event organized by the new Third Year, we went on a trip to Dambulla on 2 nd
September 2008. Majority of the student participated for this trip. The location selected,
were the Dambulla Temple and ‘Island of Joy” which had to be reached through Motor
Boat. It was a new experience for all the students and there were many enjoyable activities
organized by the committee members thought the journey. Also every member gave their
fullest contribution to prepare their lunch. The team spirit and strength of the Batch
improved with this team event. The students experienced a tremendous trip full of joy and
ecstasy.
• Workshop on Sri Lankan Capital Market
SAF organized a one day workshop which was held on 10 th September 2008 at 9 am to 1
pm in the New Conference Hall which was conducted by Securities Exchange
commission.

5. • Pen Issue
As the initial fund raising activity for the year the SAF issued pens with the University
name on September 2008. This pen was told to the all the student of Finance of Sri
Jayewardenepura in order to ensure financial strength of the SAF.
• T- Shirt Issue
In order to raise funds for the activities conducted the Students’ Association of Finance
printed a T-Shirt with the University logo and the SAF logo making a long time dream a
reality. T- Shirts were sold only to the students of the Department of Finance in order to
ensure the identity of the department.
• SAF Six a side Cricket Tournament
27 teams, 35 matches, and 189 players – Saturday and Sunday on 7th and 8th of October
2008 had University ground ablaze with sixes being hit in all directions, display of
bowling prowess, excellent fielding and nail biting finishes. The Six a side Cricket
tournament was an electrifying day filled with fun, cricket, excellent sportsmanship, most
importantly good friends. It was a day enjoyed by all ages where tiny tots could be seen
enjoying themselves alongside the youth, the middle-aged and the not-so-old. It was an
occasion for students to relax away from the stresses of work and to meet with the
university staff. And, it was a pleasing sight indeed to see University lecturers and SAF
students playing cricket together and having fun in a spirit of camaraderie.
The SAF six a side cricket tournament is an annual event that attracts active participation
of both students and staff. This year saw the highest participation and tremendous success
with students walking away with many awards.
• Investor Day Programme

6. The association organized an awareness program on investment in capital markets on 24 th
October 2008 for the benefit of the student population in the Department of Finance.
• 50th Anniversary Celebration
The university celebrated its 50th anniversary through year 2009, with a public exhibition
and a 3 day academic seminar, which was attended by large numbers of dignitaries,
students, parents and well-wishers.
From 19th to 23rd February 2009 the association organized the exhibition stalls for the
department of Finance to raise awareness among general public and students on the stream
of financial management.
• Annual Dharma Sermon
The “Annual Dharma Sermon” was delivered by venerable Uduwe Dammaloka Thero.
This event took place in near the University Shrine Room with the participation of more
than thousand students. Head of the Department of Finance Mr. Wasantha Perera,
Lectures of the Departments of Finance and Lectures from other Departments and other
Faculty’s students were participated this event. It was most successful events organized by
the Students’ Association of Finance.
• SAF Committee Photograph
A photograph of SAF Committee was taken on February 2008 at the University premises.
This photograph was taken, in order to be published in the SAF magazine which is yet to
be launched.
• NADA 2009
It’s a universally accepted truth that music has been instrumental in bringing cultures,
peoples and religions together – and this was in evidence when the students of the
university in collaboration with the SAF organized a musical extravaganza with a
difference. “NADA 2009” - a platform to showcase and unleash the hidden talents of the

7. youth - was staged on the 30th of May 2009. An ensemble of budding artists, guitars,
drums and saxophones from across NADA 2009 was on stage, serenading both the adults
and the youth.
This production was a landmark in itself as it was the first of its kind where SAF
2008/2009 bands and artists blended harmoniously to perform music, dancing and drama
from all eras of the century. The participants staged under the categories of Singing –
Solo, Dancing – Solo and Group, Bands - Oriental and Western, and Instrumental –
Acoustic and Non Acoustic.
NADA 2009 left the audience clapping their hands….stamping their feet…. shouting out
‘Encore’! The 30th May 2009 was a day that left audience with the unequivocal
reminiscences of young talent at its best!
• Guest Lecture and launch of Magazine
The association was able to invite an industry resource person on finance to deliver the
annual guest lecture which was conducted at “Fayol” Hall of the University.
Also the fifth issue of the magazine “Financial Explorer” was launched at this occasion.
The first copy of the magazine presented to the Chief Guest by the editor of the magazine
Thanuja Jayawardana and other guests, lectures were given the copies of the magazine.
• Winding up...
Final part of the year was reserved towards grooming the next set aspiring young
intellectuals to represent SAF at the university but not before organizing,
