Family: Poaceae (Grass Family)
Native to: S. California, AZ and Baja CA; grows in Coastal Sage Scrub, Chaparral, coastal prairies
and grasslands and oak woodlands.
cool-season annual grass mature height: 1-2 ft. mature width: to 1 ft.
Cool season annual bunchgrass. Grows quickly in winter/spring. Dies in summer.
Growth characteristics:
Blooms/fruits: Mar-May. Flowers are small, green grass flowers (not showy)
Annual grasslands and native lawns. Also good for bank stabilization/erosion
Can be used in vernal swales/water gardens.
Uses in the garden:
control.
Sensible substitute for: non-native annual grasses
Attracts: birds use for cover
