2. One type of cancer that a woman needs to be aware of is
endometrial cancer. This type of cancer affects the lining
of the uterus called endometrium. Because it is found in
the uterus this type of cancer is also called uterine
cancer. Also this type of cancer is not as common as
other cancers that are found in the female reproductive

Endometrial cancer develops when cells in the lining of
the uterus become abnormal and start to grow rapidly
and in an uncontrolled manner. These abnormal cells will
then turn into a malignant tumor. Unlike many cancers
where the cause is unknown, the cause of this type of
cancer is actually known. It is caused when an individual
gets a hormonal imbalance with the level of estrogen in
the body being higher than the level of progesterone.
This imbalance causes the lining of the uterus become
thicker and if it remains in this condition, abnormal cells
may start to develop and grow.

3. Age is one factor that increases the risk of this type of
cancer. Normally it affects women who are over 50 years
of age. In addition to age there are other factors that can
cause an estrogen-progesterone hormonal imbalance.
One risk is directed towards women that are overweight
because they may have a higher level of estrogen
because of the extra fat cells. The body cannot
compensate for this extra estrogen by creating more
progesterone so an imbalance can occur.
One thing that can increase the risk of endometrial
cancer is if a woman gets hormonal therapy that involves
taking estrogen without progestin can also increase the
risk. Polycystic ovary syndrome, which can affect women,
may also lead to a hormonal imbalance. Some of things
that can increase ones risk factors are an early
menstruation and late menopause. If a woman has never
been pregnant, had a full term pregnancy or breast fed
are also at a higher risk of developing this disease.

4. Bleeding from the vagina after menopause is more than
likely the most common symptom. You will also find that
women that are undergoing hormonal therapy may also
have this kind of bleeding so bleeding does not
necessarily indicate cancer. However if you do
experience this type of bleeding, you should go to your
doctor to get checked.
The good news is that this condition can be corrected.
Like most cancers, the early it is diagnosed and treated,
the better the chances of success. This type of cancer is
normally diagnosed with biopsy where cells from the
uterus lining are removed for lab testing.
The endometrial cancer is normally treatment by surgery
where the uterus as well as the cervix, fallopian tubes
and the ovaries are removed. During this surgery the
pelvic lymph nodes may also need to be removed to keep
the tumor from spreading there as well. It is likely that
after surgery is complete, the patient will undergo
chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Hormone therapy
is also used to prevent abnormal cells from growing.
