FAO Nepal‘s Local Culture Change Team (NLCCT) Major activities FAO Nepal Team
Activities of NLCCT are based on the five pillars identified by the Organization culture change strategy and are closely linked  with each other, and are shaping the FAO Nepal Team’s activities in the country  FAO Nepal‘s
Career Development Integrity / Respect Several in-country/abroad training for staffs: Team buildingProblem SolvingCommunication Skills Leadership Office Management Interacting with   “untouchable class” for better service and support  is the reflection of FAO inclusive culture  Member of NLCCT Joining female farmers in the field and sharing their daily life chores  to understand their hard work for household food security Service Orientation Training: FAS, FPMIS, Procurement, TCP information... 2 staff received promotion and for the first time, FAO Nepal got the post of  Assistant FAOR (Administration )  in  2010 thanks to increased program portfolio Valuing People Inclusive Working Environment Recognition and Reward Birthday Calendar” hung in the office to create sense of recognizing  and belonging Receiving and giving blessings on national festivals  Learning yoga to balance between  work and life.. A memento given highlighting the spirit  “Proud to Work for FAO” Visiting and discussion about culture change with project staffs Working together with farmers, sharing their issues and  daily life activities  Efforts to break down barriers between religion, cast and sex, “Dar Khane” organized for female staffs. Reward given to best participant of the training
Core Competence Service Orientation  Ensuring need based technical support to hosting government and farmers Delivering high quality and timely  services Consultation on policy  Technical support in response to farmers’ needs Ensuring Professional Excellence FAO Nepal‘s Innovation Learning Learning culture is an attitude of the entire FAO Nepal staff and very much promoted by NLCCT members  Resource mapping together with farmers is also an innovation of bottom up planning Volunteer guided tour to FAO HQs / RAP colleagues to show local culture Learning from all stakeholders at different levels Adaptability Innovative approach proposed by NLCCT to deal with internal conflict is based on the  identification of    dividing and connecting elements in organizational working relationship Participation in Field trips to learn about nature conservation  on spot Adapted to farmers indigenous cooking while in the field Nepali Traditional craft in office Celebrating paddy plantation Splash mud festival
Results Prioritization Result oriented working culture reflected in FAO Nepal increased field program many times  times  higher during the last 5 years . Strengthening FAO human and technical capacity  to ensure adequate resources for NLCCT activities  Equal priority to build bigger field program for FAO Nepal as well as ensuring its successful implementation  Awards given by donors and the Gov on FAO  outstanding performance of field program/projects Technical advices on policy formulation and execution Enhancing Performance Accountability Delegation of authority and support motivate staffs Efficiency Recognition, opportunity, reward   NLCCT has proposed various motivating approach which are endorsed by management for implementation   Timely and effectively response  to farmers’ needs  Internal Guidelines prepared by FAO Nepal is user’s friendly, transparent and  time Procurement committee meeting to ensure shared responsibilities  and transparent operational culture  NLCCT’s effort to bring Nepali culture and natural Working environment of the office encourage FAO Nepal staffs to feel at home and perform better
Knowledge Production Shared Purpose FAO Nepal web site DVD on NLCCT integrating in farmer daily life realities Internal Vision  and Culture Change Issues shared with Representation staffs, Development Project, AI and Non-AI projects Staffs DVD are produced on different topics such as poverty alleviation, Interview with FAO Partners etc. Working as One FAO Decision Making Dissemination and Sharing Female NLCCT members shared with each other about health, fashion, family. Team Work Consultation on NLCCT activities between FAOR and Projects staffs Thematic  magazine for staffs Advice by by FAOR on formation of a gender and ethnically balanced NLCC is appreciated NLCCT’s success story shared through Culture Team Happy hour with home cooked food and jokes Picnic with staffs’ family members.  Birth day’s greetings and wishing well e-cards   reflects care from “FAO  NLCCT family Dancing/singing/socializing are NLCCT’s  cultural habits
Stakeholder  orientation Knowledge sharing  and learning Interacting with NGO/Civil societies  During UN day Publication s On site discussion on seed varieties  Strategic planning with relevant  stakeholders on agriculture development At stakeholders level At farm level Strengthening Partnerships Advocacy NLCCT strong contribution to the  1 Billions Hungry Campaign , concerted efforts brought FAO Nepal Country Office  the highest collector of signature with  511395 signature out of 3381696 Globally collected. Prime Minister of Nepal and the UN Resident Coordinator signed the 1 billions petition UN’s Radio Chautari has broadcast about different activities of FAO Nepal (i.e. Youth Employment and Livelihood, Disaster Preparedness and Monsoon, Food Security etc. Donor’s visit the leasehold forest site Group discussion on NMTPF/CPF workshop
