The 1920's brought about a period of moral
revolution, thus allowing the youth to assert their
independence. The movement, beginning mostly
with youth in urban areas from a wide variety of
economic backgrounds, was marked by an
entirely new spirit and approach to life;
concerned only with immediate desires instead of
long-term consequences, young men and women
started rebellion from traditional manners and
behaviors in terms of alcohol and cigarette
consumption, sexual activity, and fashion choices,
prompting shock and even outrage from the
older, more traditional generations.

Startingin the 1920s, women began to
chase after dreams of eternal youth and
freedom through new hairstyles, makeup,
and scandalous clothing, thus creating
not only new cosmetic industries, but also
feelings of self-worth and independence.
