Ready High School Network
            Network Purpose
• Build a commitment and enrichment of
college access services in Summit County
high schools focused on four key
  components: expectations, academic
  preparation, peer culture and affordability.

• Increase the percentage of Summit
County high school graduates who enroll
  in postsecondary programs to 80%.
Firestone High School
       Purpose of Action Plan

To help students prepare to take the ACT
test and get effective scores to allow
 them postsecondary options. Students
will also participate in College Access
   Mentoring Program (CAMP), college
 visits, hear professional speakers, etc.
Firestone High School
        Targeted Audience

Students with 1 or 2 content areas
“below” college readiness as measured
by EXPLORE or estimated ACT score
            range below 21
Firestone High School
             Overarching Goals

• 80% of targeted cohort enrolls in college or
  postsecondary option

• 100% of targeted students will increase their
projected ACT score from 9th grade EXPLORE to
their 10th grade PLAN and 11th grade actual ACT.

• 95% of targeted students will successfully
complete the coursework required to meet their
  career aspirations.
Firestone High School
             CAMP Action Steps
Start with targeted 9th graders after
Administration of Explore test in 2011-2012
                 school year.

1. Administer Explore Tests to all 9th graders

2. Create a College Readiness team to determine
criteria for students to gain participation in the
program and they’ll implement strategies to support
   targeted students.
Firestone High School
              CAMP Action Steps
3. Obtaining individual mentors for students from Akron
   University
      a) Use Akron students to target students who were
below readiness in math& science on EXPLORE
         results
      b) Develop some other college mentoring experiences
that AU students could do such as visitation based on
         career aspirations

4. Establish a timeline for activities
Firestone High School
               CAMP Action Steps
5. Helping students create a rigorous curriculum for
   their 10th, 11th, 12th grade years.
      a) For the targeted group of students, map out 4 years
of coursework g based on their EXPLORE career and
college goals(either through ESchool Plus if available
or via paper until ESchool is ready)
      b) Representatives from the CR team will meet with
students and parents to explain EXPLORE results,
show courses required for career aspirations, and
map out 4 years of coursework.
      c) Individual monitoring of progress at the end of each
         semester.
Firestone High School
              CAMP Action Steps
6. (Initiate in 10th or 11th grade) College visits and trade
school visits, and shadowing experiences based on
   student’s career aspirations

7. Students guided through application and financial aid
process (e.g., ensure targeted students attend
financial aid night with their parents). Need to make
sure staff working with students are fully
knowledgeable. Determine what should be left with
counselors and what could be done by other staff.
   Create checks and balances.
Firestone High School
             CAMP Action Steps

8. Data—Develop system to track progress of cohort
group of students over their 4 years in program. If a
student is exited from the program, for example, in
his/her junior year, he/she should remain as a “cohort”
student for data tracking purposes since we’re
tracking college going rates. Explore using a
spreadsheet to track each cohort even when students
potentially move in and out of a program.
