1) The document provides a plan for students who are not current with their journalism assignments. It instructs students to open their grades and assignment schedule to determine which assignments are incomplete and need to be finished.
2) Students are then told to calculate how many assignments need to be completed and divide that number by the number of days available to develop a daily assignment completion goal.
3) The plan emphasizes communicating with the teacher for any help or questions via email, text, Blackboard IM, or in-person. Completing all work in the first five modules by the mid-term deadline is critical to avoid failing grades.
1. Plan for Becoming Current with
Assignments
WHAT TO DO IF YOU’RE NOT CURRENT WITH
YOUR WORK IN JOURNALISM
2. Why is it important to have a plan?
Remember the saying: If you’re failing to plan, you’re
planning to fail!
If you know what you need to do each day to get your
work done, you’ll have a goal…right?
3. What’s the plan?
Open My Grades to see which assignments you have
completed and which you haven’t completed.
Download and open your Assignment Schedule.
If you have a grade on an assignment, you
know you’ve completed that assignment.
(Remember to read teacher’s comments)
If you don’t have a grade and you don’t see an
assignment file waiting to be graded, mark
that on your Assignment Schedule as an
assignment you need to complete.
4. What do I do next?
Count the number of assignments you need to complete to
become current. (Check your Assignment Schedule…Every
assignment is listed with a due date)..
Divide the number of assignments you need to complete to
become current by the number of days you have to become
current.
Example: If you have not completed 6 assignments in
Lessons 1-3 and you have 2 days to finish everything through
Module 3, you must complete 3 assignments a day to become
current!
5. Working together
Remember, if you have a questions, send an e-
mail, text me, or call.
Find me most days in Blackboard IM.
If you need to instant message with me, text me or
send an e-mail to let me know when you’ll be on the
computer and that you need to instant message about
an assignment and I’ll open Blackboard IM and
message with you.
Bottom line: Communicate!
6. What are the reasons to get your work done?
Mid-term is March 24. Grades will be sent to your school.
Module 1, Module 2, Module 3, Module 4, and Module 5
must be finished by mid-term. These modules will close
on March 24th and will not re-open. Your mid-term grade
will be the average of your grades in Modules 1-5.
So….you must complete everything in the first 5 modules
by Monday, March 24th or the zeros you have on that day
will remain zeros.
