1. The SNAP Project
Seamless exchange of multi-modal transport data for transition to
National Access Points
2. 3
Context
• In its drive to foster interoperability across Europe, the EU is requiring each Member State to
allow access to transportation data via a National Access Point (NAP).
• According to the EU Regulation 2017/1926, all transport authorities, transport operators and
infrastructure managers must provide static and dynamic data in specific data formats (e.g.,
NeTEx, SIRI).
• The EU Regulation applies to different transportation modes, including air, train, road vehicle,
bus, ferry, metro, tram, shuttle bus, car-sharing, car-pooling and bike-sharing.

3. 4
Needs and Challenges
• The first deadline is for providing static data –for example, the data regarding timetables
and network topology– by December 1st, 2019.
• Very few transport authorities, operators and infrastructure managers are currently using the
standards requested by the Regulation, thus a data conversion operation is needed.
• Currently, there are no proven solutions on the market covering all the needed data
conversion processes, which in itself are very time-consuming due to the complexity of the
target standard.
4. 5
SNAP Solution and Benefits
• SNAP supports the conversion of legacy transportation data to the target standard
requested by the EU Regulation.
• The benefits of the solution include:
• decreases the time to perform the data conversion,
• hides the complexity of the conversion process and of the target standards,
• provides a more friendly environment for implementation.
• The adoption of the SNAP solution is less expensive (in terms of time and effort) than
acquiring the knowledge or contracting the competence to implement a custom solution.
5. 6
How to get involved in SNAP
• Interested parties can get involved by participating in interviews and workshop sessions
aimed at understanding their needs, potential use case scenarios and identifying the
requirements of the SNAP solution.
• The expected benefit is twofold:
• Co-design: participants would be able to influence the design of SNAP to better suit their
business needs and operating context;
• Host the piloting: participants would be able to try the SNAP solution, check the quality
of the results, and estimate the effort to put the solution in production;
• Early adopter advantage: participants could have access to limited trials of SNAP,
purchase the solution at a competitive price or with facilitated terms and conditions.
6. 7
SNAP Partners
• The SNAP solution is being developed as an EIT Digital project (see next) with the involvement
of several partners:
Business champion of SNAP; technology provider for semantic interoperability;
collector of needs from the involved customers; marketing and sales of the
solution.
Technology provider for solutions of data and service sharing; contributor to the
specification of the SNAP business proposition.
Technology provider for solutions of data and service sharing, especially from
the open data and open service world and for solutions for semantic-based
interoperability of transport data.
Collector of requirements and needs from the local transport and logistics
market; Facilitator of the piloting of the technological solution.

About EIT Digital
• EIT Digital is a leading European open innovation organisation whose mission is to foster digital
technology innovation and entrepreneurial talent for economic growth and quality of life in
Europe.
• EIT Digital focus the investments on a limited number of innovation areas selected with respect to
European relevance and leadership potential - the Innovation Action Lines: Digital Industry,
Digital Cities, Digital Wellbeing, Digital Infrastructure, Digital Finance.
• Each Innovation Activity is a co-financed innovation project carried out by the EIT Digital
Partners, with the goal of launching on the market a new product or service (or creating a new
startup).
