How To Make A No-Sew Tutu Skirt For Your Little Girl
1. How To Make A No-Sew Tutu Skirt For Your Little Girl
A tutu is a skirt usually worn as a costume by little girls and adults in a ballet performance. It used
to be that when one think of tutu, the image of a ballerina on tippy toes comes to mind. Not
anymore! Today you'll find even infant babies who are not old enough to crawl, not alone stand on
their tippy toes dressed up in tutus.
Tutus are made out of tulle fabric. Tulle is a lightweight, very fine netting fabric spurned out of
various fibres, including silk, nylon, and rayon. Tulle fabric is commonly used for wedding gowns,
prom gowns and veils.
The make-up of a tutu consists of a waistband and bodice. The bodice is a separate piece of the
costume attached at the waistline or high on the hip; sometimes it's put together just with elastic
tabs to allow for movement. The skirt itself, the part that hangs down, can infant tutus be either a
single layer, or multiple layers.
There are solid colored tutus and multi-colored ones too. Tutus styles and designs can go from being
basic with no embellishment to being couture and sophisticated with lots of embelishments. Pre-
designed store-bought tutus sometimes come embellished with ribbons, rhinestones, silk or fabric
flowers, and pom-poms.
