Manuel Llano Merino was a writer and journalist born in 1898 in Sopeña, Cabuérniga Valley, Cantabria, Spain. He worked as a shepherd as a child and studied at La Salle. Llano was famous for his paintings and books about the culture, traditions, and mythology of Cantabria. He was a member of the choir "Sabor de la Tierruca" and loved folk and mountain music. Llano died in 1938 in Santander.
