fort in the New
World, El Morro
was built to protect
San Juan from
attacks from the
sea and to control
entry to the
harbour.
6. Plaza de San José
• The Plaza stands in front
of the bronze statue of
Ponce de León, made
from British cannons
captured in during Sir
Ralph Abercromby's
attack in 1797. The plaza
is skirted by a number of
historic buildings.
