Yankee Group Study Reports that ADC’s Cuda 12000
is Ready to Challenge Cisco in the CMTS Market
DOCSIS 1.1-Qualified Cuda 12000 Provides
a Clear Path to PacketCable Applications
MINNEAPOLIS – October 14, 2002 – According to the latest Yankee Group Report on the
cable modem termination system (CMTS) market, ADC (Nasdaq: ADCT; www.adc.com) is
“stable and healthy” and positioned to challenge Cisco for leadership in the CMTS market.
In the report, “CMTS Vendors Setting Their Sights on Cisco,” the Yankee Group notes that
compared to Cisco’s first generation CMTS platform, ADC’s built the Cuda 12000 “from the
ground up” to be “aligned with the cable operator’s strategy of providing enhanced
applications.”
“ADC is gaining market share quickly and will continue through future deployments of the
Cuda 12000 platform,” said Lindsay Schroth, an analyst with Yankee Group’s broadband
access technologies service and author of the report. The Yankee Group also highlights
several factors that bolster ADC’s potential for success in the next-generation CMTS market,
including its status as one of the few vendors with proven field experience in the Voice over
Internet Protocol (VoIP) space through its deployment with Callahan and the fact that more
than 600 of its next-generation platforms are deployed today. “It is a very strong carrier-
class platform,” said Schroth.
The Yankee Group report points to several benefits of the Cuda 12000’s architecture that
enhance its performance. For example, the management modules are divided from the
CMTS modules to prevent data traffic from being slowed or otherwise affected by the
management functionality. Distributing the routing and switching functionality to each
module also increases the speed of transferring packets.
ADC’s Cuda 12000 is the world’s most widely deployed DOCSIS 1.1-qualified CMTS platform
and provides multiple system operators (MSOs) with a carrier-class foundation for advanced
services such as tiered data and IP voice. In addition, the Cuda 12000 enables commercial
services and future IP-based capabilities such as gaming and streaming video. PacketCable
compliant and DOCSIS 2.0-ready, the Cuda 12000 offers end-to-end quality of service
(QoS), robust routing capabilities, extremely high availability, and comprehensive system
redundancy.
