2. Hiatus In late October, I injured my back pretty severely I was: Absent from many classes Very behind in class work In a lot of pain Unable to put considerable work into this project I am: Completing the bulk of this project over the winter break Meeting with Prof. Moorthy once a week
3. Recap Sahana Eden is: An HFOSS Disaster Management System Written in Python, and built on top of web2py My project is: An extension to Sahana Eden, leveraging their system and development community Business tools targeted to medium to large scale fair trade enterprises A set of Eden modules that can activated for this type of deployment
4. Ten Thousand Villages Workflow My initial use cases revolve around the workflow at TTV: TTV contacts organizations involved with unemployed or underemployed artisans around the world The two groups work collaboratively to gauge artisanal skills, and develop products that will be marketable They must agree on a fair trade price Artisans produce goods, and TTV sells them online, in stores, and through other sales
5. Why TTV? They are the only organization to get back to me despite multiple attempts at contact It is a large and successful organization They are one of the founding members of the Fair Trade movement and exemplify successful FT work
6. Why Not TTV? Realistically, it’s unlikely TTV will be willing to try out the software once a stable release is put out until there are other users Using this workflow as a starting point, and trying some different avenues to get more information from other organizations Going to target some smaller organizations to see if one is willing to deploy a stable version
7. Features Prospective Modules Artisan Management (In Progress) Artisans – contact information, skillset, availability, location Can assign artisans to orders Order Management Orders – Contact information, order details (items, quantities), deadlines Items – Description, required materials, required skills, etc. Possibly integrate simple tools for the producer/retailer collaboration Gantt charts for order visualization Supply Chain Management
8. Tasks/Schedule Finished Preliminary research Ongoing Scouting out organizations for more info/deployment possibilities Module development Design documentation Future First release by the end of winter break Far into the future Mobile capabilities
9. Thanks! Thanks to Prof. Moorthy Sean O’Sullivan Helpful Sahana Eden Developers Fellow RCOS members I invite everyone to continue to check the Fall ‘10 Dashboard over the Winter Break I would appreciate any feedback you may have on my design materials, documentation, or code!
