• Immigration Attorney Christopher Stender serves as a partner of the Arizona-based
Federal Immigration Counselors and is responsible for publishing several articles and
opinions on legal topics related to immigration. Beyond his professional obligations as an
attorney, Christopher Stender supports the Florence Immigration and Refugee Rights
Project (FIRRP). Services provided by the FIRRP include the Florence Project Pro Bono
Program.
Dedicated to serving detained immigrants, the program provides attorneys with the
necessary training and support to represent immigrants under detention in removal
proceedings. It operates in conjunction with the organization’s Florence, Eloy, and
Children’s Programs in order to recruit attorneys and connect them with qualified
mentors.
Pro bono attorneys may appear before several different courts depending on the stage of
proceedings, including juvenile court, federal district courts, immigration judges, and the
Board of Immigration Appeals. Furthermore, the attorneys handle a wide variety of cases
that range from citizenship claims and political asylum to Convention Against Torture
relief and cancellation of removal for legal permanent residents. The Florence Project Pro
Bono Program also appoints pro bono attorneys with criminal law experience to seek post-
conviction relief in certain cases.
