3. AAA Express, California
AAA Express is a new concept in Insurance and Travel sales,
locating small branches within Supermarkets. AAA developed a
brand concept to locate small express branches offering insurance,
travel and DMV services within Lucky Supermarkets in the greater
San Francisco Bay Area. Looking to expand their market to a
younger customer, I was charged with creating an exciting, modern
space utilizing conventional materials. Focusing on color, shape and
texture I invoked the feeling of movement and energy. The sense of
movement was enhanced by the use of active media in the form of
electronic displays, as well as the use of bold graphic statements
using applied vinyl graphics that can be easily changed to reflect
changing services.
14. Goyard San Francisco
Goyard is a French luxury leather goods designer, manufacturer
and retailer. They have been providing luggage and bags to the
carriage trade since 1853. Goyard developed the vulcanized
canvas material used by several of Europe’s top design houses
and have been selling their hand made goods exclusively from their
original store located on Rue St. Honore in Paris since 1853.
In 2005 Goyard decided to open their first full service boutique,
outside of Paris, in San Francisco. The result is a 1,300 sf boutique
located on Union Square, on the high profile corner of Powell and
Post Streets in the St. Francis Hotel.
22. AAA Northern California, Nevada and Utah
Designing for their conventional branches, to be located as store-
fronts in regional malls and urban shopping zones, I utilized a concept
that organizes the branch so that customers pass through a platform
area of insurance and travel sales leading to the customer service
counter. The use of different materials, color, varied ceiling heights and
soffits helped define the zones within the branch.
29. e-citi on campus
In an effort to reach out and establish a relationship with younger clients
Citibank rolled-out a campus branch program with a focus on e-commerce.
The design included computer access for on-line banking, ATM’s and an office
area for personal consultation and customer services.
As each student union provided unique design challenges the branches
included a combination of modular units and purpose-built space to allow
for flexibility.
33. Safeway Select Bank
Safeway and Amicus Bank of Canada formed a partnership to create
Safeway Select Bank within 33 Safeway Stores.
The branches were designed to provide an ATM for self-service
transactions and a staffed workstation area for customer services and
loan transactions.
The modular design allowed for ease of installation. The shell space
was prepared in advance so the units could be brought in and
installed with minimum disruption to the market.
37. Clorox Consumer Learning Center, Pleasanton
The Clorox Technical Center consists of nine buildings serving the
research and development of Clorox’s products.
Clorox conducts their own market research through focus groups
and consumer testing. This new 17,000 sf facility consolidates these
functions in a state of the art facility. The consumer testing areas were
designed to emulate different residential kitchen and bathroom
environments as well as provide sensory booths for the testing of food
products and fragrance. In addition the focus room, observed through
a one way mirror from the adjacent viewing room equipped with audio
visual equipment, allows Clorox to conduct focus groups in the same
facility. Clorox also required the ability to prepare the food products
and products for fragrance testing on site, thus the provision of “lab”
spaces for these functions. Office space for the staff was also provided.
48. Bang & Olufsen San Francisco
Bang & Olufsen’s is a high end European electronics retailer.
Their San Francisco store was previously located in the space
now occupied by Goyard. This change provided the
opportunity to design the new 1,300 sf store for B&O at their
new Sutter Street location.
Design of the space included display areas, as well as, a
custom media room to showcase audio/visual equipment.
55. metroPCS Retail Rollout
MetroPCS is a regional cell phone provider specializing in low, fixed cost
cell phone service. Headquartered in Texas, MetroPCS has service in
the southern U.S. and in 2002 instigated service in Northern California.
Since 2002 I have designed 18 stores throughout the greater Bay Area.
The stores use a prototype that I re-designed to streamline the design
and construction process. The changes to the prototype have been adopted
nationwide as they continue to expand their service coverage.
60. First Federal Bank
First Federal Bank is a Southern California based bank. Their goal was
to expand their branch network throughout the greater Los Angeles
area. Two branches were completed before the bank re-evaluated their
business model and outsourced their facilities management which stopped
the projects from proceeding.
66. Austin AECOM Offices, San Francisco
In 2006 Austin AECOM relocated to new offices at 405 Howard Street. This
Move consolidated the offices of four sister operating companies into a single
space sharing offices services to reduce operating expenses.
I developed the space plan and design concept for the 12,000 sf office.
