A short introduction to identifying 1st and 3rd person point of view in stories. Students will be able to identify clues to help them determine which point of view the story is being told from.
Point of View- an Elementary Overview of 1st and 3rd Person
1. POINT OF VIEW
An elementary school lesson covering 1st and 3rd person point of view
2. WHAT IS POINT OF VIEW?
When you are asked to describe the point of view of a
story, you are being asked to identify who is telling the story.
There are 2 main points of view we will be working with
this year.
They are 1st person point of view and 3rd person point of
view.
3. 1ST PERSON POINT OF VIEW
When the story is being told in the 1st person point of view,
the main character is the one telling the story.
Some clues that the story is in 1st person point of view:
• The character uses the pronoun I a lot
• The character lets you into his or her thoughts
5. 3RD PERSON POINT OF
VIEW
When a story is written in 3rd person point of view the
narrator knows what all of the characters are thinking.
Clues that a story is being written:
• The characters are referred to by their names
• The person telling the story seems to know everything
that is going on.
