Sunnyvale, CA, November 1, 2012 MarketingCamp Silicon Valley is the first-of-its-kind marketing
event in the popular “unconference” scene. It will be held on Saturday, November 3rd from 8 am – 4 pm
at the Nokia campus, 200 Mathilda Ave. Sunnyvale, CA. Full details can be found at
www.MarketingCamp.org. The event can also be followed live on Twitter at @MarketingCampSV or with
hashtag #MCSV.
New to some of us, but not a new concept, unconferences have been successful for years in bringing
together people from diverse motivations and backgrounds to self-organize around topics of greatest
interest to the group, with an emphasis on interaction, discussion and debate.
“These camps foster greater interactivity than traditional programmed conferences and they encourage
an exciting level of open discussion and collaboration,” states Paul Wcislo, champion of the first
MarketingCamp and a volunteer for Silicon Valley Forum, a 30 year old non-profit organization that
holds over 250 meetings per year. “Uniquely, we are offering the marketing assets that we have
developed for MarketingCamp Silicon Valley to any other city or country to use in creating their own
MarketingCamp and we are planning our second one in San Francisco in the spring,” Wcislo adds.
The Unconference is free to attendees. Presentation topics are selected by participant voting - every
attendee is able to set their own priorities and is free to attend or leave any topic session. Some of the
50 topics that have been submitted to date include, “How to Turn Paid Search into an Online Revenue
Channel for Your Business”, “Getting the Right People to Talk about Your Company”, “The Art of Social
Media”, “Start-up CEO’s Marketing Myopia - Why Founders Fail” and “Never Sell Again”.

2. “Creating this first MarketingCamp has been a valuable exercise undertaken by a small and dedicated
team of volunteers”, says Michael Downs, Senior Director of Business Development for Nokia and the
Chairman of MarketingCamp Silicon Valley. "We had 250 registrants in the first week that we promoted
the event and within a few weeks, we were full at 500 attendees. Giving up a Saturday underscores the
interest of Bay Area marketers in advancing their marketing skills and learning from experts who are
utilizing the latest social media and marketing tools.”
“In fact,” says Jonathan Chizick, Marketing VP for MarketingCamp Silicon Valley, “the concept is so
popular that multiple cities have already expressed interest in hosting a MarketingCamp, including San
Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Ann Arbor.” If you are interested in learning how you can utilize the
marketing strategies and assets that we have developed, to create a MarketingCamp in your city,
contact us at info@marketingcamp.org.”
