Descriptive Essay On Sass Cafe
Sass Café: Dubai's Ultimate Brunch Party I love dinner parties. Friends coming together for fun
times, great food, and some tasty libations. The thoughts of the experience last long after toasts are
made and the glasses clinked. The Sass Café has taken the dinner party to a complete next level. The
food is what one would expect from a top French restaurant, the music rivals one of the hottest club
scenes. Dubai's sexy jet set make reservations weeks before to celebrate a birthday party, an
awesome day date, or special occasion. This is a party with a purpose and the energy level goes
from mellow to a frenzied high energy party. What amazing is that it all starts in the middle of the
day starting at 1 pm and morphing into a full on club ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The energy in the place was now full frenzy and then the entertainment show began. An curious
assortment of revelers dressed as Power Rangers and other characters began to dance and party and
before my eyes the place was a full–on day night club. Music, dancing, bottles were at every turn.
Libations flowed and glasses were emptied. We joined in the party scene and partied a few hours
before calling it a fantastic day.
I've been to the Original Sass Café in Monaco. It is great to see that the Bulldozer Group, who the
Sass family has entrusted their family jewel, has taken such care of the original eateries brand DNA.
Great food, an amazing experience, and a place to enjoy good friends and the good life. Well done!
Friday Brunch is serious business in Dubai and the competition for the sexy crowd and that coveted
jet set dollar is fierce. The options are endless from the beach and pool parties with toned bodies
fresh from the gym dancing to the big name DJs, to more laid back affairs. However, the Sass Café
in Dubai's Financial Center has taken the brunch experience to a whole new level and has upped the
ante on the Dubai brunch scene. The scrumptious Mediterranean food options with the
entertainment and a vibe that set a new standard for brunch in

Essay on A Short Story About an Evil Barber in Ring...
In Ring Lardner's short story "Haircut", the narrator is a straightforward barber, who goes by the
name Whitey. The story is about Whitey tells a customer about the well–liked regular at the local
barbershop, Jim Kendell. At first the barber makes it seem that Jim is a good old fella, but
depending on some people's views, and on Jim's actions towards people, they will quickly discover
that Jim is a selfish jerk. Keeping this in mind there are two important questions that are brought up
throughout the story, which are if Jim's life actually matter to the town and was Jim an evil person;
personally, I believe that Jim was not a completely evil person and that the town did not value his
life.
Jim was known as the town's practical joker, even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the story when Jim's wife is mention, Whitney would said"As I say, she'd of divorced
Jim, only she seen that she couldn't support herself and the kids..." However, I believe this wasn't the
real reason why Jim's wife wouldn't divorce him. I think she was afraid of what he would do if she
tried, there was cases where he didn't get he's way he would slash out by playing a cruel "joke" on
someone, and besides after Jim lost his job with the Carterville people he only did little paid jobs
around town and use the money to buy gin. Whitney mentions that the only reason why the children
didn't starve was, because the stores in town were supporting them; also Jim's wife was trying to
make money by making clothing. Therefore, she wouldn't divorce him for financially reasons, but
for safety of the family.
Now keeping this all in mind, did Jim really matter to the town, or was he just the town's biggest
joke? The conclusion I have about this is that the town was just keeping Jim around just for the
stories, so they would have something to talk about. There was a man named Hod Meyers who was
also known for his jokes around town, but he wasn't as cruel or as famous as Jim, therefore the town
didn't like Jim solely for him. Also, by the way Whitney talks about Jim at the end of the story by
saying" He certainly was a card! Comb it wet or dry?" leaves the reader with the thought that Jim
was just another one of Whitney's ways entertain the passers–by who

The Blood Sucking Behavior Of Hirudo
The Blood Sucking Behavior of Hirudo Miguel Soto Professor Folkerts Pepperdine University 23
April 2014 Abstract Hirudo are well known for their blood sucking, fluid feeding behavior. The
purpose of this experiment was to get a better understanding of Hirudo's blood feeding behavior;
more specifically, the study was designed to answer the question: how do different volumes of blood
affect Hirudo's thirst? By soaking a sponge with different volumes of cow blood and measuring the
time it took for the Hirudo to attach to the blood soaked sponge, the experiment yielded results that
help explain whether or not there was a connection between the amount of blood available to Hirudo
for feeding and the time it takes Hirudo to attach to the blood ... Show more content on

The Blood Sucking Behavior of Hirudo Hirudo, more commonly known as leeches, are interesting
creatures with a very distinctive feeding behavior. In society, they are primarily known as "blood
suckers," but not much else is known about their feeding behavior. In nature, Hirudo utilizes its
abilities to detect and feed on blood for efficient uses of energy (Sawyer, 1986). These unique
behaviors caught my interest and made me question them. This eventually led to the question: how
do different volumes of blood affect Hirudo's thirst? Hirudo are segmented worms that can grow up
to 20cm. long when fully mature and range from green to brown in color. Hirudo have two suckers,
one on each end called the anterior and posterior. They are predacious animals and mostly fluid
feeders. Some are true blood suckers, attaching themselves to a host during feeding periods. They
feed mostly on turtles, fishes, dolphins, and other mammals (Elliot, 1986). Hirudo live in many
different places all over the world. Their habitats even stretch across Europe and Asia. The most
preferred habitat for this species is muddy freshwater and ditches with a lot of weeds (i.e. lakes,
ponds, streams, and marshes). Hirudo prefer water that is eutrophic, meaning it is high in nutrients
(Fields, 1991). In various countries around the world, Hirudo are used for medical purposes.
Leeches have been used for treatment for illnesses such as "benign tumors,

Hansel Short Story
Near a great forest there lived a poor woodcutter and his wife, and his two children; the boy's name
was Hansel and the girl's Grethel. They had very little to bite or to sup, and once, when there was
great dearth in the land, the man could not even gain the daily bread. As he lay in bed one night
thinking of this, and turning and tossing, he sighed heavily, and said to his wife, "What will become
of us? we cannot even feed our children; there is nothing left for ourselves."
"I will tell you what, husband," answered the wife; "we will take the children early in the morning
into the forest, where it is thickest; we will make them a fire, and we will give each of them a piece
of bread, then we will go to our work and leave them alone; they will never find the way home
again, and we shall be quit of them."
"No, wife," said the man, "I cannot do that; I cannot find in my heart to take my children into the
forest and to leave them there alone; the wild animals would soon come and devour them." – "O you
fool," said she, "then we will all four starve; you had better get the coffins ready," and she left him
no peace until he consented. "But I really pity the poor children," said the man.
The two children had not been able to sleep for hunger, and had heard what their step–mother had
said to their father. Grethel wept bitterly, and said to Hansel, "It is all over with us."
"Do be quiet, Grethel," said Hansel, "and do not fret; 1 will manage something." And when the

Personal Narrative : An Introduction To The Way Of City Life?
I'm seventeen now, it's been three years since dally died. Me, Darry, and Soda, decided to move
away after that, try and avoid the heat. I've been in Chicago for a while now and I've gotten good at
city living. It's real hard gettin money though, Darry got a job as a carpenter, and Sodapop's just
been exploring the new streets. He's pretty popular in his new gang, we all miss the old crew and all
but it was for the best that we got as far away as possible. I've dropped out of school and I mostly
just stick around with soda and the gang, but right now, I'm just trying to enjoy a nice nap. "Pony.

sprinting toward us, with a knife in his hand. The man snatched my wallet out of my hand and ran
for it. "That's right, get outta here" he yelled smiling, as the old man ran away. "did he take
anything?" he said with a worried face. "just a couple bucks." I said, trying not to frown. "how
much." I sighed deeply "one sixty." "damn" he said, looking down as we turned around and walked
home. "Hey, so I know y'all are having trouble finding the cash around here, but me and soda have
been working on a plan with the crew. We've been checking out the northern trust corporation bank
of Chicago." he said with a grin. "sixty million man we'll be rich like main street" soda said with a
jump. "We're gonna rob a bank?" I smiled imagining it, no more problems, no more worries, we'd be
living like kings. "Ya man first thing I'm gonna buy is a nice leather jacket, and a bucket of grease"
soda said jokingly. I laughed, I knew it wasn't realistic, but it sounded great. "I've got a crew at my
house, there a bunch of country boys but, they sure are good" we walked over to Derek's while
talking about all the things we we're going to do with all the moolah. I couldn't believe we were
really gonna do this, it felt like a dream. Derek and soda have said they were making a plan for a

A Co Parenting Plan
Systemic Analysis As a divorced couple with a child, Ted and Joanna Kramer came to therapy to
resolve their presenting problem: coming up with a co–parenting plan. Billy is the identified patient
because his parents are triangulating him into their conflict. Triangulation occurs when parent are
incapable of working out their problems, so they bring a child who becomes the focus of the
problem (Goldenberg & Goldenberg, 2013, p. 284). According to Goldenberg and Goldenberg
(2013), each parent demands the child to side with him or her against the other, while the other sees
this alignment as a betrayal or attack (p. 284). Therefore, Ted and Joanna demand Billy side with
them separate from the other; this is created conflict in the family ... Show more content on

Billy is flexible to his parents' choice of his custody. In the following section, it would be analyzed
the social groups that the family Kramer represents. The hierarchies, differentiation levels,
boundaries, and the misguided solution of the family system would also be analyzed.
Ethnicity
The family system's ethnicity is European American. According to Giordano and McGoldrick
(2005), marrying a person of their own ethnicity is a cultural expectation of all white ethnics (p.
516). So, Ted and Joanna intermarriage is a cultural expectancy for both. According to Hardiman
(1982), racism is an intimate and central part of white European Americans (as cited in Sue and Sue,
2013, p. 321). The Kramer family ethnicity affects their interactions with other minority ethnic
groups. Hardiman (1982) called the naiveté stage as the stage where there is unawareness of the
existences of racism, and there is little contact with ethnic minorities (as cited in Sue and Sue, 2013,
pp. 321). The family Kramer seems to build relationships, personal and professional, only with
white Caucasian people. There is no contact with minorities.
Religion
Because of their European American ethnicity, the Kramer family's religion is Christianity. Giordano
and McGoldrick (2005) acknowledged that although the United States attempts to separate state and
church, America's current and past history has privileged Christianity to be the mainstream religion
(p. 512). Because of the

William Wycherley’s The Country Wife Essay
William Wycherley's "The Country Wife"
"A Restoration comedy is like an eighteenth–century sitcom; it's entertaining" (MacKenzie, "Behn").
However, the similarities between the two genres are more far–reaching than their equal
entertainment value. For example, the cast of William Wycherley's Restoration comedy, "The
Country Wife," consists of some central characters that are strikingly similar to those in the cast of
the modern situation comedy, Seinfeld. Harry Horner from "The Country Wife" and George
Costanza from Seinfeld both fit the male "wit" character type. Likewise, Lady Fidget, one of
Horner's lovers, and another woman, who's one of Costanza's fleeting lovers, both fit the female
"wit" character type. Through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"He starts a rumor going round to the effect that he has become a eunuch; ...wives, he trusts, will be
intrigued" (2288). Horner's conclusion is logical and clever, considering the fact that masks "were a
widespread item of Restoration fashion[;]...they were worn both by 'virtuous' women and by
prostitutes, with the tantalizing effect of rendering those two human categories not quite
distinguishable from one another" (2288). From this social climate, he discerns that if he wears a
metaphorical mask, or a unique social label, this mask might have a similar "tantalizing effect" on
women; it might make discerning female wits want to discover whether the man behind the mask is
truly asexual or erotic.
However, after putting on his mask, Horner passively waits for Lady Fidget to present him with the
opportunity to exchange pleasure; he does not go out and actively seek the opportunity on his own.
Instead, Sir Jaspar actively seeks out Horner, on Lady Fidget's behalf, and presents him to her;
however, she only relents to Horner's company after she asks: "[b]ut are you sure he loves play and
has money?" (2309). Horner can't "play" or negotiate an exchange of pleasure with Lady Fidget
unless he first has money, so a male wit has to spend time to somehow get money, before he can
even try to obtain pleasure from a female wit. However, in order to negotiate with Horner, Lady
Fidget, as the

Reasons The Trials Of Witch Trials
Were people accused of witchcraft given fair trials? In my opinion, they were not. Based on the
information gathered from the three documents, many of the men and women accused of witchcraft
were doomed before the trial even took place. There are many reasons as to why the trials were
unfair before they even started. First, a big reason why the trials were so unfair was because of the
church. They could use their influence on society to decide who has jurisdiction over certain areas,
giving inquisitors legal power over areas they may not have otherwise had. Another reason the trials
were unfair is the suspected party did not really get to defend themselves, and even if they tried to,
they could be found guilty anyway. However, the biggest reason I think the trials were unfair was
because of the Malleus Maleficarum, where it mentions torture of prisoners with the intention of
getting confessions. The Papal Bull of 1484 was important because it shows that Pope Innocent VIII
not only openly acknowledged witchcraft as a threat, but also gives encouragement to witch hunts.
"Desiring with supreme ardor, as pastoral solicitude requires, that the catholic faith in our days
everywhere grow and flourish as much as possible, and that all heretical depravity be put far from

Analysis Of Fareed Zakaria On America 's Education System
Fareed Zakaria found opportunities in America's education system that he never would've had in his
home country of India. America's open–minded way of life amazed him even when he was growing
up and being influenced by American entertainment. Zakaria's love for America was sparked by his
family ties to America, his passion for American films, and the opportunity to live out his dreams
instead of being tied to a specific career. Zakaria developed a fascination for America at a young
age. Hollywood was one of the main reasons he gained so much knowledge for America's culture.
He gained a passion for American television and film. He watched films and shows such as The
Poseidon Adventure, Kramer vs. Kramer, Dallas, and I love Lucy. Zakaria himself writes, "The
hottest show at the time was Dallas, which we all devoured. The scenes during the opening credits
were my window into the American dream: shining shots of gleaming skyscrapers, helicopters
landing in office parks, men in ten–gallon hats getting in and out of cavernous Cadillacs" (34).
Zakaria's point is that shows such as Dallas allowed him to gain knowledge of the American Dream
and America's culture which lead to him wanting to gain his own taste of American life. Zakaria
eventually ended up attending Yale. He gained much knowledge of literacy and philosophy at Yale
due to their outstanding teachings in liberal education. Zakaria was fascinated by Hollywood's films
which led to him living his own American dream and

Advertising Guitars with Suicide and Sex
Ads are made to grab a certain audience and make that audience relate to the specific ad or make
them want to go out and purchase the product that is being promoted. Many ads are trying to sell
specific items; but if a person really analyses the ad, the company is selling or promoting more than
one item.
In this ad the company Gibson is promoting a specific guitar to be sold. In the ad there is a six–
string, electric guitar standing up with the wording, "If this doesn't get you laid you should just
commit suicide." In the lower right hand corner of the ad, the company's name Gibson is printed.
This six–string guitar is popular for beginning music artists. In this ad the company Gibson is using
pathos, ethos, and logos to get the audience's attention. The Gibson guitar ad explicitly sells guitars,
but it implicitly sells sex and suicide.
Gibson guitars are directing this ad to older teenage and young male adults. The audience is young
enough that they are still debating on what career path that they want to go down. To some of this
audience, this ad would grab their attention by thinking this guitar should get them laid. This aspect
would be directed mainly towards young males. Also, some guitars give the sexy and spontaneous
impression, which in a young male's eyes, is a perfect career. The ad is also saying that if a person
doesn't get laid because of a guitar, they should just kill themselves. By analyzing the statement and
ad picture, music involves sex and

This paper is going to explain and compare the powers, abilities and background behind both
witches and demons within the 15th, 16th and 17th century Christianity in England and Scotland

In response, two German Dominican Inquisitors named Sprenger and Kramer wrote The Malleus
Maleficarum. The book prepared strategies for the use of torture to uncover lies while also
informing and alerting the public to the presence of witches and how to identify one. Like demons,
witches possess tremendous power, but these powers can easily be explained away as natural events,
however, during the 15th and 16th centuries these powers were very real and often included events
such as: stealing infants, perceptions of future events, illusions, killing people by sight or touch,
cause disease, kill crops, influence judges or magistrates, summoning storms or foul weather,
impede procreation and carnal acts with incubi to produce more witches. Sixteenth and seventeenth
century discussions of witchcraft always insisted that a pact with the devil lay behind witchcraft,
although this pact was sometimes only tacit or implied. These pacts were created through a pact with
the devil himself, through a ceremony called a Sabbath or using the powers yourself to inflict harm

Analysis Of The Soup Nazi By Larry David
The famous episode from Seinfeld, "The Soup Nazi", is loved and viewed by many. In this episode,
both George Costanza (Jay Scott Greenspan) and Jerry Seinfeld (Jerry Seinfeld) go to a restaurant
that supposedly has the "best soup in the city", according to the locals. However, everyone calls the
owner of the soup restaurant "The Soup Nazi" because of his hard, cold personality and his ability to
refuse service to anyone who annoys him. The episode comically portrays the fear which "The Soup
Nazi" induces on his customers and the willingness of his customers to come back just because his
soup is so delicious (http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/07/04/the–top–10–seinfeld–episodes?

written by Larry David, the writer of the television series, Seinfeld. Larry David is a comedian as
well as a satirist. He is in many Saturday Night Live (SNL) skits as Bernie Sanders, and was the co–
creator of the television series, Curb Your Enthusiasm. A common theme throughout his works is his
ability to take everyday problems and blow them out of proportion. Larry David practices many
techniques in his satirical pieces that explore ideas of race and gender in order to bring across a
message to society and entertainment to viewers. Among Larry David's vast amount of satirical and
comical pieces, one of the main brunt of his jokes is race. Since Larry David is of Jewish ethnicity,

The Importance Of Conflicts In The Jungle
The Jungle by Upton Sinclair is a tough read that teaches the corrupt policies of capitalism. The
narrator, Jurgis, struggles with his new life in America because it isn't the ideal dream that most
immigrants have. Jurgis' struggles are understandable, but there are many who have never had to
experience what he has so it is harder to sympathize and compare oneself to that of a character with
no similarities. However, this novel also teaches the hardships immigrants typically went through
during their transitions, or their lives in general, in America while also providing the reader with
healthy confusion. This novel establishes a sense of confusion, uneasiness, or worry while also
making the reader feel pleasure or happiness. There are several instances in the novel where the
reader experiences this healthy confusion while learning about the differences in lifestyles between
the fortunate and those looking to have a new life but encounter conflicts. Most scenes in this novel
are sad, but also have happiness buried deep within the text or meaning. In The Jungle, Jurgis
struggles with his life in America and has trouble finding a job to support himself, his family, and
pay off his debts, like the wedding. He is able to find a job, but it does not pay well and the working
conditions are horrible. After hurting himself and going to jail, he is unable to find another job and
does whatever he can to try to make money. The union workers eventually become aware that they

The Influence of Witchcraft on Feminism Essay
The Influence of Witchcraft on Feminism The witch–hunt that blazed a trail across Europe (and
indeed the world) over the 15th to 18th centuries stripped women of much of the power they had
historically held. Not 100% of all accused Witches were female but 75% to 90% of accused witches
in Europe were in fact women (Levack, 1987, p.124). Prior to the 15th century, rural European
women were highly revered and respected pillars of rural community life. Women were not only
considered as mothers and wives, but also as community leaders, physicians, and sources of strength
and wisdom. They worked side by side with men toward the common goal of community growth
and improvement. Though they were not seen as identical to men in the roles ... Show more content

Small rural communities were run in a semi–socialist manner. Inhabitants all had their homes or
land, and some were wealthier than others but because of the community spirit within these small
enclaves the children of your neighbor may as well be your children, and one would never consider
withholding food or aid from a poorer neighbor. Women in these communities could choose their
path and remain single and independent or marry and have children. A woman was also virtually
unlimited in the number of children she could have. More children meant more hands to contribute
to chores and farm work, which in turn meant there was more food for the family to eat. Extended
family was also a large part of this lifestyle and as such there were always grandparents, and perhaps
even great grandparents who would help to raise the communities' children and allow the mothers to
contribute more fully to community life. There were several events that led up to the century known
as "the Burning Times". By the middle of the16th century, the which–hunt was in full swing. In
brief, the historical timeline of the witch–hunt and those events leading to the witch–hunt are as

protagonist author. The main character, who is Millie, a god–living, giving woman who refuses to
accept defeat. At times, Millie can be naive, but also capable of insight and wisdom.
As displayed in the novel, these positive traits work to attract others in the novel. Thompson
portrays the colorful lifestyle of the Caribbean and most stereotypes such as the lying, thieving man
as a husband, and having children who are selfish. In my opinion, there appears to not be any
historical context in connection within the novel.
The author's usage of Ethos in relationship to self–identity is as follows. In the beginning of the
novel, Thompson, who is the author, undercovers how

A Short Story : A Story?
Joseph can't remember the last time he did this ,but with Sebastian up on his feet again. He just had
to. He opened a draw that smelled of blood. At the bottom was a razor blade with dried blood on it.
Joseph removed his glove showing two others scars on his hand. He shuts his eyes but digs it into
his pale skin with the razor saying slight curses to himself. "This is what you get for being useless,
and the crush you have on Sebastian." Small tears can't help but fall down his pale cheeks. Then he
heard the silent ring of his phone from another room. Joseph quickly washed off the blood and put
his glove back on twice as fast. He sighed a little seeing Sebastian's number. "Hello Seb." He said
trying to sound cheerful. "Hey Joseph I wanted to see if everything's ok?" Sebastian asked. Joseph
got a little scared. Did Sebastian know about his little pass time? "You just seemed kinda down
today that's all." Sebastian said with concern clear in his voice. "Oh yeah I'm fine don't worry. I was
just heading to bed." He hear a sigh though the phone. Sebastian knew he lying. "Alright good
night" "Good night Seb." Joseph put his phone down sighing staring at his gloved hands. He got up
getting ready for bed. Once he was in bed he looked at his gloveless hands again sighing before

Examples Of Self Preservation In Rashomon
In Akira Kurosawa's Japanese murder mystery film, Rashomon, Akira tells the story of a slaughtered
samurai. The story of the murder is revealed four times to a judge, each by a different person who
witnessed the crime. Each of the stories contradicts the previous. Each of the stories has a constant
of rape, murder, and the use of a dagger as the murder weapon, but each story depicts differing
methods and motives. The stories seem equally plausible and the film does not disclose which of the
characters is telling the truth. Each of the characters has their own agenda and a reputation to
protect. In this case, all four stories were fabricated to protect the characters' reputations. Especially
in the era where this film takes place, reputation meant everything. All living things are susceptible

He claims to have tricked the samurai to step off the mountain trail with him and look at an arsenal
of ancient swords he had found. He then ties the samurai to the tree and returns to capture the
samurai's wife, giving the impression that Tajomaru is sly and shrewd. In Tajomaru's version of the
story, he entices the woman making it seem as if the woman falls in love with him. This however, is
contradicted by the other stories where it is said that Tajomaru forced himself onto the woman. Out
of honor and respect, Tajomaru frees the samurai and they begin to duel for the woman's love.
Tajomaru tells of a valorous and honorable sword battle that ensued between the two, whereas the
story of the woodcutter states that the duel was clumsy and that Tajomaru took a cheap shot at the
samurai, which ultimately ended his life. He tells this embellished, spectacular story of a damsel in
distress, how he is to rescue her and they are to marry and live happily ever after together, to

People 's Views On Witches
People's views on witches have transformed from the pre–modern period to today. During the pre–
modern time, many people believed the Devil carried out evil deeds through witches, but the
witches were to blame for all of the misfortunes caused (Kramer and Sprenger 2). The modern era,
though, rejects that belief. Today, it is rumored that witches are no longer associated with the Devil,
and a witch is anyone at all who performs magic (Bolds 1). The definition of a "witch" as a whole
has transformed completely due to the diversity in opinions. Initially, it appears a witch can be
defined as a person who performs magic by conforming to these simple guidelines; however, I argue
that a witch is much more complex than that because magic can be used for good or evil in
witchcraft. Witchcraft does not directly correspond to religion; however, religions may have certain
beliefs about witchcraft. In their pre–modern treatise Malleus Maleficarum, Heinrich Kramer and
James Sprenger state that witchcraft is futile without the Devil, a witch, and the permission of God
(Kramer and Sprenger 12). In the modern text "RELIGIOUS: Witches, not what you'd expect,"
Meagan Bolds argues that a person can practice any religion or no religion and still be referred to as
a witch. The only condition for Bolds is that the person holds the ability to perform magic of some
sort (Bolds 1). Therefore, magic no longer stands as a burden to society. Instead, Bolds thinks of
magic as a right (Bolds 1). This

Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
Lord of the Flies
When wisdom is lost, civilization crumbles and savagery rises. William Golding makes this
statement apparent through the character of Piggy in Lord of the Fies. The main idea of the book is
fixated on a group of young boys struggling to survive after a plane crash on a deserted island. They
must put their independent thinking and logic to the ultimate test, without a proper head of authority
to show them right from wrong. Golding portrays Piggy as wisdom and the voice of reason. Once
the voice of reason is gone, civilizations ceases to exist.
On arrival of the island, Piggy is identified as the wisdom archetype right off the bat. Piggy wears
glasses, and this is a stereotype of an intellectual being. He meets Ralph and ... Show more content

The boys on the island usually give him grief for his name, calling him "Piggy" when he specifically
asked not to be called that. "Better that than fatty" Ralph comments, as if he thinks his feelings are
unimportant, and it wasn't a big deal. But this act of mockery has wounded Piggy psychologically.
He didn't like being called that back in school, and he especially doesn't like it now. When the conch
comes into play, it is respected that he who holds the conch has the right to speak. This rule
seemingly does not apply to Piggy. He is often cut off by Jack, as if he wasn't good enough to hold
the crowd's attention. He was pushed aside. ""I've got the conch." Jack turned fiercely. "You shut
up" Piggy wilted." Piggy, in essence, "wisdom", is being silenced. Piggy is intimidated by Jack's
presence, and starts to fade away or cease to speak. "Piggy asked no names. He was intimidated by
this uniformed superiority and the offhand authority in Merridew's voice. He shrank to the other side
of Ralph and busied himself with his glasses." With Piggy starting to leave, this shows that wisdom
is following him. "I thought they wanted the conch"..."They didn't take the conch." "I know. They
didn't come for the conch. They came for something else. Ralph – what am I going to do?" Far off

moments the affected the plot and what results changed the characters. Therefore, I will give my
own statements on the overall tone and conclusion of the movie. The overall plot of the movie is the
image of the father transforming and dealing with being a single parent and handling being a full
time advertising executive. With the beginning scene of the mother exiting displays she felt like her
life was dwindling away as a wife and caregiver and that's when the father had to take on the full
load. For the next few scenes, the father and son displayed resentment towards one another because
of the changes in the household dynamic. When at work, the husband's new home environment
starts to affect his office environment. His boss gives him a new and very important account even
though he was unsure if he can perform his duties like past accounts before. These dissimilar factors
caused a blow – up between father and son at dinner one evening. After the blow – up, the son

The 's Central Themes : Redemption And Family Ties
In Kramer v. Kramer (Benton, 1979), the use of motifs helps explore the film's central themes:
redemption and family ties. As Ted Kramer experiences and embraces the perils of fatherhood, the
film notes the changes in his life through the use of careful cinematography, framing, and editing.
Motifs such as establishing shots, props such as plants and pictures, and Ted's interactions with his
family. Though the film is set in the dense urban jungle of New York City, the framing of nature
imagery and use of towering buildings in establishing shots make Ted's character more dynamic and
truly analyze his changes throughout the film.
At the core of the plant metaphor are the various establishing shots, which also double as crane
shots. There are four notable establishing shots: the first in Ted's apartment [11:02–10], the second
in his office [42:56–43:01], the third at his new job [1:02:30], and the fourth at the courthouse
[1:12:23–1:12:38]. The swift, jaggedness of New York City skyscrapers is best illustrated through
these shots, and it parallels the rough nature of Ted's home and work life. These establishing shots
always scale up buildings very quickly, and their increased speed set them apart from other aspects
of the film. These shots also add to the overall unity of the production, and from an editing
standpoint, they signify a clear transition between settings.
To further emphasize this unity, there is a sound bridge following the first of these of these

Revenge In One Thousand And One Nights
Revenge is a Dish Best Not Served at All The tale One Thousand and One Nights, also known as
Arabian Nights is best known for its frame tale organization and its scandalous tales that shocked
and captured the European population's attention during the 18th century, but it is the morals within
the story that of are worth noting. In the tale Shahrazad, the daughter of the king's vizier, tells stories
to king Shahrayar in hopes of prolonging the lives of her fellow citizens and hopefully bringing the
king to his senses. Her tales all hold a subliminal message that is meant to teach the king that his
current behavior is unacceptable and harming both his citizens and himself. The dangers of jealousy
and revenge, the pitfalls of greed and the wonders of mercy are just some of the morals that her tales
portray. Examples of these themes can be seen in the stories of the three old men and the overall tale
of the merchant and the demon. In the first old man's tale he is telling the story of his deer. He
reveals to the demon that the deer was once his wife and that she became a deer because of her
actions. "She grew jealous of my mistress and my son" (Puchner et al. 1191) The wife, furious at

promise to return to the demon for his punishment. Mercy is also portrayed by the old men in the
story as well. The old men risk their own lives in order to try to save the merchant from the demon.

No, David ! By David Shannon
Imagine your child is always testing your limits by performing mischievous actions. The child is
coloring on the walls of their bedroom, playing baseball in the house, climbing on the furniture,
bringing in dirt from outside, etc. How would you react? With this in mind, No, David! by David
Shannon uses the relationship between pictures and words to demonstrate predictable negative
comments in words from an adult figure in association to relatable child–like behaviors in pictures.
Initially, the cover and title page of the book both play a key role in the layout of the story. On the
cover, the artistic style of the illustration looks like a cartoon and a painting. This style is very
realistic because of the situation portrayed on the cover; yet playful at the same time because of its
comical vibe. The cover also looks three–dimensional and the author seems to be using a
straightforward perspective of art. This idea is led be true because the child, wall, and table with the
fishbowl are all facing towards the reader. The title is also as large in font as the child and fish bowl
are. This shows that the cover is relatively proportional in both text and pictures.
As a result, the child on the cover has sharp teeth and an almost evil grin as he is attempting to pick
up the fish bowl off of a table that is above his head. Secondly, looking at the fish; their facial
expressions show that they are fearful of what is occurring. Both fish have open mouths, as well as

Mathata is a completely uneducated housemaid but despite this she has much better manners than
Neo. Kegoletile has a choice to marry one or the other and of course he chooses Neo. In this culture
a good wife is seen to be a wife with good manners and therefore Mathata should be the obvious
choice. Neo's relatives recognise that he has chosen Neo so that he and her may become rich in no
time.
The aunts on both sides are the representation of tradition and modernity in the story. Kegoletile's
aunts' representing the culture and what is lost. They demonstrate the importance of manners and
tradition in the culture. " 'That girl has no manners!' the relatives would remark. 'What's the good of

The African wedding is quite similar to our wedding in some aspects. Instead of having the bride's

celebrations after the wedding.

Witchcraft During Medieval Times
During medieval times, there was a constant uproar when it came to difference in religions, as
leaders preferred there be one sacred religion, Christianity. Around the 15th century, leading into the
16th century, in European countries, such as Germany and surrounding providences, witchcraft
became the new practice, which was frowned upon. Anyone accused of being a witch, could not
receive a fair trial, as they were persecuted, tricked into confession, humiliated, inhumanly tortured,
and put to death by the numbers.
Witchcraft was known, as a practice, in which, one would give themselves, over to the devil; in
return, sorcery would be gained (Witchcraft Documents [15th Century], 1996). Due to fear, and the
misunderstandings, of natural disasters, witches were said, to be the cause of a multitude of events.
Uneducated, about the scientific reasoning, behind; miscarriages, the destruction of crops, any
lifeform that had perished, in addition, to any other mishap; inevitably, witchcraft would be to blame

Innocent VIII, supported, the persecution of witches.
The excerpt "Innocent VIII: BULL Summis desiderantes, Dec. 5th, 1484," is a memoriam, listing
desires and requirements, as to how witches convicted, should be hunted and put on trial (Witchcraft

Real World Colonial South : Gender Relationships
Real World Colonial South: Gender Relationships in the Colonial South
William Byrd: plantation owner, financier, cheater and the main character in his own mind. Just like
the MTV show "The Real World," consequences are thrown out the window and extreme freedom is
given. From parties, to cheating on your wife in front of her, William Byrd gives insights of what it
was like to be a man in the Colonial South. In selections from William Byrd's journals, he writes
how he treated others–women, slaves and anyone he thought was socially under him. Gender
relationships in the Colonial South were relationships built on disrespect and dehumanization.
Women in the Colonial South were poorly respected. William Byrd treated his wife with extreme
disrespect. Throughout his journal, his wife goes unnamed, but he mentions his slaves by name and
also his mistresses along with other female companions and male friends. Just by doing so he seems
to not value his wife as a human. His attitude towards his wife seems to be one of disregard and
disrespect. Along with Byrd not naming his wife in his journals, there is also insight through his
entries that he thought of her as submissive and lacking of any power. He and his wife would get
into fights, and she would not lose easily. Even though she would put up a great fight, he would then
write in his journal how he overtook her with his power. When she would loose she would throw
tantrums. He wrote in his journal entry dated September 3, 1709,

Kramer Vs Kramer : Movie Review : Kramer Vs. Kramer
Kramer vs. Kramer is a 1970s movie that depicts a couple's divorce and child custody battle. Ted
Kramer is an advertising executive workaholic, who in the beginning of the movie was given the

Ted came to Shaunessy to become a prospective client seeking representation for a custody battle,
his intentions were to fight Joanna in gaining custody of Billy. I feel like it was redundant to
mention having a pros and cons list because despite all the cons his son outweighed them.
Shortly after the meeting with Shaunessy, Ted was fired from his advertising executive position.
Later in the week, he receives a phone call from his attorney notifying him that the court date is
January 9th. Later in the conversation, Ted hesitantly informs Shaunessy that he was just let go from
his job. Shaunessy tells Ted we do not have a "hope in hell" of gaining custody of Billy if he is out

to change the court hearing date." Ted then states, "I will find a job in 24 hours". Shaunessy replies,
"How the hell are you going to do that?"
When Ted requested to see if the court date could be pushed back Shaunessy did not try to even

of Ted if he was not able to find employment before the court date.

Key Themes In The Film Kramer V. Kramer
The movie Kramer v. Kramer is about a man named Billy Kramer, who is left with his son for 18
months. After those 18 months Kramer devolves a bond with his son that he didn't have in the past
years. After those 18 months Kramer's wife comes to take the child back by filing for custody. There
are a few key themes from the movie Kramer v Kramer. One of the main themes is the theme about
men being able to take care of children just as good as a female. This movie helped change
America's perspective on the male parent. Another theme of the movie is that the male should
appreciate his wife and all of her house duties. At this time in America men were more focused on
their careers than they were focused on their wives. This led to depression and other mental illnesses
on women at the time. The movie Kramer v Kramer starts with Bill Kramer coming home to find
out that his wife is leaving him. Kramer's wife leaves him because he is too focused on his work and

He is sending a message to viewers about gender roles, stereotypes, and men's lack of involvement
with children, men lack of sensitivity to their wife's feeling and he is also sending a message to the

doesn't follow the female's story. If you are a man watching this movie you feel empathy for Kramer
at the end when he is about to lose his child. Women may feel differently because they can relate to
the perspective of a female more than a male. The film maker had an agenda to bring this legal issue
to the movie screen to hopefully change opinions on the issue. The issue at the time was that men
didn't have a fair chance at winning custody in a legal dispute. Years after this movie the judicial
system realized that the current system wasn't fair and made laws to eliminate the female

Kramer Vs Kramer Summary
Upon reviewing the film Kramer vs. Kramer, I will provide a brief summary and cover self–esteem,
sympathy, and psychological interferences.
The movie Kramer vs. Kramer follows a young married couple living in New York. The wife's name
is Joanna Kramer and the husband is Ted Kramer. Through the first few scenes of the movie you
find out that Joanna is very depressed due to her marriage and decides to file for divorce. This leaves
Ted with the tremendous task of caring for their young son Billy. All the while he must maintain a
job and build a relationship with his son.
First let's look at self–esteem and how it plays a role in the film. Self–esteem is how confident we
are In ourselves, and our abilities to do things. In the film Joanna has very low self–esteem. When
Joanna decides to get a divorce from Ted she blames herself. She claims that she was an awful wife.
She also believes that Ted was unhappy during the marriage due to her. Another example of Joanna's
low self–esteem is when she comes back to talk to Ted over dinner a few months after she left him.
Joanna tells Ted that she felt she was an unfit mother. This caused her to leave her only child behind.

Kramer Vs Framer Essay
Upon reviewing the film Kramer VS. Kramer, I will provide a brief summary and cover Semantic
interference, Psychological interferences, and Selective listening.
The movie Framer VS. Framer is about a couple going through a divorce affecting their son named
Billy. The mother Joanna Kramer leaves her husband and son for her well being. Ted Kramer is then
forced to raise his son with a little help from another friend who is also a single parent named
Margaret. Ted later has to cope with obstacles, but maintains a stronger relationship with his son.
First let's look at Semantic interference. "The words you choose"(Understanding Human
Communication). Throughout the movie Ted had to pick his words wisely whenever Billy would ask
a question about his mother. This is because even though Joanna and Ted were split up she was still
Billy's mother. Another example of Semantic interferences in the movie Kramer VS. Kramer was
when Joanna wanted her son back, Ted and Joanna had to go to court which means they had to pick
there words wisely weather if they were appropriate for parenting Billy. Another example is when

magic, or Witchcraft. Hexenhammer" in German is one of the most famous medieval treatises on
witches. It was written in 1486 by Heinrich
Kramer and Jacob Sprenger, and was first published in Germany in 1487. (3)
Its main purpose was to challenge all arguments against the existence of witchcraft and to instruct
magistrates on how to identify, interrogate and convict witches.
(3)Some modern scholars believe that Jacob Sprenger contributed little if anything to the work
besides his name, but the evidence to support this is weak. Both men were members of the
Dominican Order and Inquisitors for the Catholic Church. They submitted the Malleus
Maleficarum to the University of Cologne's Faculty of Theology on May 9, 1487, seeking its
endorsement.(3)
The Malleus Maleficarum (The Witch Hammer), first published in 1486, is arguably one of the most
infamous books ever written, due primarily to its position and regard during the Middle Ages.
It served as a guidebook for Inquisitors during the Inquisition, and was designed to aid them in the
identification, prosecution, and dispatching of Witches. It set forth, as well, many of the modern
misconceptions and fears concerning

Descriptive Essay On Sass Cafe

  • 1. Descriptive Essay On Sass Cafe Sass Café: Dubai's Ultimate Brunch Party I love dinner parties. Friends coming together for fun times, great food, and some tasty libations. The thoughts of the experience last long after toasts are made and the glasses clinked. The Sass Café has taken the dinner party to a complete next level. The food is what one would expect from a top French restaurant, the music rivals one of the hottest club scenes. Dubai's sexy jet set make reservations weeks before to celebrate a birthday party, an awesome day date, or special occasion. This is a party with a purpose and the energy level goes from mellow to a frenzied high energy party. What amazing is that it all starts in the middle of the day starting at 1 pm and morphing into a full on club ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The energy in the place was now full frenzy and then the entertainment show began. An curious assortment of revelers dressed as Power Rangers and other characters began to dance and party and before my eyes the place was a full–on day night club. Music, dancing, bottles were at every turn. Libations flowed and glasses were emptied. We joined in the party scene and partied a few hours before calling it a fantastic day. I've been to the Original Sass Café in Monaco. It is great to see that the Bulldozer Group, who the Sass family has entrusted their family jewel, has taken such care of the original eateries brand DNA. Great food, an amazing experience, and a place to enjoy good friends and the good life. Well done! Friday Brunch is serious business in Dubai and the competition for the sexy crowd and that coveted jet set dollar is fierce. The options are endless from the beach and pool parties with toned bodies fresh from the gym dancing to the big name DJs, to more laid back affairs. However, the Sass Café in Dubai's Financial Center has taken the brunch experience to a whole new level and has upped the ante on the Dubai brunch scene. • 2. Essay on A Short Story About an Evil Barber in Ring... In Ring Lardner's short story "Haircut", the narrator is a straightforward barber, who goes by the name Whitey. The story is about Whitey tells a customer about the well–liked regular at the local barbershop, Jim Kendell. At first the barber makes it seem that Jim is a good old fella, but depending on some people's views, and on Jim's actions towards people, they will quickly discover that Jim is a selfish jerk. Keeping this in mind there are two important questions that are brought up throughout the story, which are if Jim's life actually matter to the town and was Jim an evil person; personally, I believe that Jim was not a completely evil person and that the town did not value his life. Jim was known as the town's practical joker, even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the story when Jim's wife is mention, Whitney would said"As I say, she'd of divorced Jim, only she seen that she couldn't support herself and the kids..." However, I believe this wasn't the real reason why Jim's wife wouldn't divorce him. I think she was afraid of what he would do if she tried, there was cases where he didn't get he's way he would slash out by playing a cruel "joke" on someone, and besides after Jim lost his job with the Carterville people he only did little paid jobs around town and use the money to buy gin. Whitney mentions that the only reason why the children didn't starve was, because the stores in town were supporting them; also Jim's wife was trying to make money by making clothing. Therefore, she wouldn't divorce him for financially reasons, but for safety of the family. Now keeping this all in mind, did Jim really matter to the town, or was he just the town's biggest joke? The conclusion I have about this is that the town was just keeping Jim around just for the stories, so they would have something to talk about. There was a man named Hod Meyers who was also known for his jokes around town, but he wasn't as cruel or as famous as Jim, therefore the town didn't like Jim solely for him. Also, by the way Whitney talks about Jim at the end of the story by saying" He certainly was a card! Comb it wet or dry?" leaves the reader with the thought that Jim was just another one of Whitney's ways entertain the passers–by who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Blood Sucking Behavior Of Hirudo The Blood Sucking Behavior of Hirudo Miguel Soto Professor Folkerts Pepperdine University 23 April 2014 Abstract Hirudo are well known for their blood sucking, fluid feeding behavior. The purpose of this experiment was to get a better understanding of Hirudo's blood feeding behavior; more specifically, the study was designed to answer the question: how do different volumes of blood affect Hirudo's thirst? By soaking a sponge with different volumes of cow blood and measuring the time it took for the Hirudo to attach to the blood soaked sponge, the experiment yielded results that help explain whether or not there was a connection between the amount of blood available to Hirudo for feeding and the time it takes Hirudo to attach to the blood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Blood Sucking Behavior of Hirudo Hirudo, more commonly known as leeches, are interesting creatures with a very distinctive feeding behavior. In society, they are primarily known as "blood suckers," but not much else is known about their feeding behavior. In nature, Hirudo utilizes its abilities to detect and feed on blood for efficient uses of energy (Sawyer, 1986). These unique behaviors caught my interest and made me question them. This eventually led to the question: how do different volumes of blood affect Hirudo's thirst? Hirudo are segmented worms that can grow up to 20cm. long when fully mature and range from green to brown in color. Hirudo have two suckers, one on each end called the anterior and posterior. They are predacious animals and mostly fluid feeders. Some are true blood suckers, attaching themselves to a host during feeding periods. They feed mostly on turtles, fishes, dolphins, and other mammals (Elliot, 1986). Hirudo live in many different places all over the world. Their habitats even stretch across Europe and Asia. The most preferred habitat for this species is muddy freshwater and ditches with a lot of weeds (i.e. lakes, ponds, streams, and marshes). Hirudo prefer water that is eutrophic, meaning it is high in nutrients (Fields, 1991). In various countries around the world, Hirudo are used for medical purposes. • 5. Hansel Short Story Near a great forest there lived a poor woodcutter and his wife, and his two children; the boy's name was Hansel and the girl's Grethel. They had very little to bite or to sup, and once, when there was great dearth in the land, the man could not even gain the daily bread. As he lay in bed one night thinking of this, and turning and tossing, he sighed heavily, and said to his wife, "What will become of us? we cannot even feed our children; there is nothing left for ourselves." "I will tell you what, husband," answered the wife; "we will take the children early in the morning into the forest, where it is thickest; we will make them a fire, and we will give each of them a piece of bread, then we will go to our work and leave them alone; they will never find the way home again, and we shall be quit of them." "No, wife," said the man, "I cannot do that; I cannot find in my heart to take my children into the forest and to leave them there alone; the wild animals would soon come and devour them." – "O you fool," said she, "then we will all four starve; you had better get the coffins ready," and she left him no peace until he consented. "But I really pity the poor children," said the man. The two children had not been able to sleep for hunger, and had heard what their step–mother had said to their father. Grethel wept bitterly, and said to Hansel, "It is all over with us." "Do be quiet, Grethel," said Hansel, "and do not fret; 1 will manage something." And when the parents had ... "just a couple bucks." I said, trying not to frown. "how much." I sighed deeply "one sixty." "damn" he said, looking down as we turned around and walked home. "Hey, so I know y'all are having trouble finding the cash around here, but me and soda have been working on a plan with the crew. We've been checking out the northern trust corporation bank of Chicago." he said with a grin. "sixty million man we'll be rich like main street" soda said with a jump. "We're gonna rob a bank?" I smiled imagining it, no more problems, no more worries, we'd be living like kings. "Ya man first thing I'm gonna buy is a nice leather jacket, and a bucket of grease" soda said jokingly. • 7. A Co Parenting Plan Systemic Analysis As a divorced couple with a child, Ted and Joanna Kramer came to therapy to resolve their presenting problem: coming up with a co–parenting plan. Billy is the identified patient because his parents are triangulating him into their conflict. Triangulation occurs when parent are incapable of working out their problems, so they bring a child who becomes the focus of the problem (Goldenberg & Goldenberg, 2013, p. 284). According to Goldenberg and Goldenberg (2013), each parent demands the child to side with him or her against the other, while the other sees this alignment as a betrayal or attack (p. 284). Billy is flexible to his parents' choice of his custody. In the following section, it would be analyzed the social groups that the family Kramer represents. The hierarchies, differentiation levels, boundaries, and the misguided solution of the family system would also be analyzed. Ethnicity The family system's ethnicity is European American. According to Giordano and McGoldrick (2005), marrying a person of their own ethnicity is a cultural expectation of all white ethnics (p. 516). So, Ted and Joanna intermarriage is a cultural expectancy for both. According to Hardiman (1982), racism is an intimate and central part of white European Americans (as cited in Sue and Sue, 2013, p. 321). The Kramer family ethnicity affects their interactions with other minority ethnic groups. Hardiman (1982) called the naiveté stage as the stage where there is unawareness of the existences of racism, and there is little contact with ethnic minorities (as cited in Sue and Sue, 2013, pp. 321). The family Kramer seems to build relationships, personal and professional, only with white Caucasian people. There is no contact with minorities. Religion Because of their European American ethnicity, the Kramer family's religion is Christianity. Giordano and McGoldrick (2005) acknowledged that although the United States attempts to separate state and church, America's current and past history has privileged Christianity to be the mainstream religion (p. 512). However, the similarities between the two genres are more far–reaching than their equal entertainment value. For example, the cast of William Wycherley's Restoration comedy, "The Country Wife," consists of some central characters that are strikingly similar to those in the cast of the modern situation comedy, Seinfeld. Harry Horner from "The Country Wife" and George Costanza from Seinfeld both fit the male "wit" character type. From this social climate, he discerns that if he wears a metaphorical mask, or a unique social label, this mask might have a similar "tantalizing effect" on women; it might make discerning female wits want to discover whether the man behind the mask is truly asexual or erotic. However, after putting on his mask, Horner passively waits for Lady Fidget to present him with the opportunity to exchange pleasure; he does not go out and actively seek the opportunity on his own. Instead, Sir Jaspar actively seeks out Horner, on Lady Fidget's behalf, and presents him to her; however, she only relents to Horner's company after she asks: "[b]ut are you sure he loves play and has money?" (2309). Horner can't "play" or negotiate an exchange of pleasure with Lady Fidget unless he first has money, so a male wit has to spend time to somehow get money, before he can even try to obtain pleasure from a female wit. • 11. Reasons The Trials Of Witch Trials Were people accused of witchcraft given fair trials? In my opinion, they were not. Based on the information gathered from the three documents, many of the men and women accused of witchcraft were doomed before the trial even took place. There are many reasons as to why the trials were unfair before they even started. First, a big reason why the trials were so unfair was because of the church. They could use their influence on society to decide who has jurisdiction over certain areas, giving inquisitors legal power over areas they may not have otherwise had. Another reason the trials were unfair is the suspected party did not really get to defend themselves, and even if they tried to, they could be found guilty anyway. However, the biggest reason I think the trials were unfair was because of the Malleus Maleficarum, where it mentions torture of prisoners with the intention of getting confessions. The Papal Bull of 1484 was important because it shows that Pope Innocent VIII not only openly acknowledged witchcraft as a threat, but also gives encouragement to witch hunts. "Desiring with supreme ardor, as pastoral solicitude requires, that the catholic faith in our days everywhere grow and flourish as much as possible, and that all heretical depravity be put far from the territories of the faithful, we freely declare and a new decree this by which our pious desire may be fulfilled, and, all errors being rooted out by our toil as with the hoe of a wise laborer, zeal and ... • 22. People 's Views On Witches People's views on witches have transformed from the pre–modern period to today. During the pre– modern time, many people believed the Devil carried out evil deeds through witches, but the witches were to blame for all of the misfortunes caused (Kramer and Sprenger 2). The modern era, though, rejects that belief. Today, it is rumored that witches are no longer associated with the Devil, and a witch is anyone at all who performs magic (Bolds 1). The definition of a "witch" as a whole has transformed completely due to the diversity in opinions. Initially, it appears a witch can be defined as a person who performs magic by conforming to these simple guidelines; however, I argue that a witch is much more complex than that because magic can be used for good or evil in witchcraft. Witchcraft does not directly correspond to religion; however, religions may have certain beliefs about witchcraft. In their pre–modern treatise Malleus Maleficarum, Heinrich Kramer and James Sprenger state that witchcraft is futile without the Devil, a witch, and the permission of God (Kramer and Sprenger 12). In the modern text "RELIGIOUS: Witches, not what you'd expect," Meagan Bolds argues that a person can practice any religion or no religion and still be referred to as a witch. The only condition for Bolds is that the person holds the ability to perform magic of some sort (Bolds 1). Therefore, magic no longer stands as a burden to society. As Ted Kramer experiences and embraces the perils of fatherhood, the film notes the changes in his life through the use of careful cinematography, framing, and editing. Motifs such as establishing shots, props such as plants and pictures, and Ted's interactions with his family. Though the film is set in the dense urban jungle of New York City, the framing of nature imagery and use of towering buildings in establishing shots make Ted's character more dynamic and truly analyze his changes throughout the film. At the core of the plant metaphor are the various establishing shots, which also double as crane shots. There are four notable establishing shots: the first in Ted's apartment [11:02–10], the second in his office [42:56–43:01], the third at his new job [1:02:30], and the fourth at the courthouse [1:12:23–1:12:38]. The swift, jaggedness of New York City skyscrapers is best illustrated through these shots, and it parallels the rough nature of Ted's home and work life. These establishing shots always scale up buildings very quickly, and their increased speed set them apart from other aspects of the film. • 27. No, David ! By David Shannon Imagine your child is always testing your limits by performing mischievous actions. The child is coloring on the walls of their bedroom, playing baseball in the house, climbing on the furniture, bringing in dirt from outside, etc. How would you react? With this in mind, No, David! by David Shannon uses the relationship between pictures and words to demonstrate predictable negative comments in words from an adult figure in association to relatable child–like behaviors in pictures. Initially, the cover and title page of the book both play a key role in the layout of the story. On the cover, the artistic style of the illustration looks like a cartoon and a painting. This style is very realistic because of the situation portrayed on the cover; yet playful at the same time because of its comical vibe. The cover also looks three–dimensional and the author seems to be using a straightforward perspective of art. This idea is led be true because the child, wall, and table with the fishbowl are all facing towards the reader. The title is also as large in font as the child and fish bowl are. This shows that the cover is relatively proportional in both text and pictures. As a result, the child on the cover has sharp teeth and an almost evil grin as he is attempting to pick up the fish bowl off of a table that is above his head. Secondly, looking at the fish; their facial expressions show that they are fearful of what is occurring. Both fish have open mouths, as well as eyes and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Witchcraft During Medieval Times During medieval times, there was a constant uproar when it came to difference in religions, as leaders preferred there be one sacred religion, Christianity. Around the 15th century, leading into the 16th century, in European countries, such as Germany and surrounding providences, witchcraft became the new practice, which was frowned upon. Anyone accused of being a witch, could not receive a fair trial, as they were persecuted, tricked into confession, humiliated, inhumanly tortured, and put to death by the numbers. Witchcraft was known, as a practice, in which, one would give themselves, over to the devil; in return, sorcery would be gained (Witchcraft Documents [15th Century], 1996). Due to fear, and the misunderstandings, of natural disasters, witches were said, to be the cause of a multitude of events. Uneducated, about the scientific reasoning, behind; miscarriages, the destruction of crops, any lifeform that had perished, in addition, to any other mishap; inevitably, witchcraft would be to blame (Witchcraft Documents [15th Century], 1996). The excerpt "Innocent VIII: BULL Summis desiderantes, Dec. 5th, 1484," is a memoriam, listing desires and requirements, as to how witches convicted, should be hunted and put on trial (Witchcraft Documents [15th Century], 1996). Real World Colonial South : Gender Relationships Real World Colonial South: Gender Relationships in the Colonial South William Byrd: plantation owner, financier, cheater and the main character in his own mind. Just like the MTV show "The Real World," consequences are thrown out the window and extreme freedom is given. From parties, to cheating on your wife in front of her, William Byrd gives insights of what it was like to be a man in the Colonial South. In selections from William Byrd's journals, he writes how he treated others–women, slaves and anyone he thought was socially under him. Gender relationships in the Colonial South were relationships built on disrespect and dehumanization. Women in the Colonial South were poorly respected. William Byrd treated his wife with extreme disrespect. Throughout his journal, his wife goes unnamed, but he mentions his slaves by name and also his mistresses along with other female companions and male friends. Just by doing so he seems to not value his wife as a human. His attitude towards his wife seems to be one of disregard and disrespect. Along with Byrd not naming his wife in his journals, there is also insight through his entries that he thought of her as submissive and lacking of any power. He and his wife would get into fights, and she would not lose easily. Even though she would put up a great fight, he would then write in his journal how he overtook her with his power. When she would loose she would throw tantrums. He wrote in his journal entry dated September 3, 1709, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Key Themes In The Film Kramer V. Kramer The movie Kramer v. Kramer is about a man named Billy Kramer, who is left with his son for 18 months. After those 18 months Kramer devolves a bond with his son that he didn't have in the past years. After those 18 months Kramer's wife comes to take the child back by filing for custody. There are a few key themes from the movie Kramer v Kramer. One of the main themes is the theme about men being able to take care of children just as good as a female. This movie helped change America's perspective on the male parent. Another theme of the movie is that the male should appreciate his wife and all of her house duties. At this time in America men were more focused on their careers than they were focused on their wives. This led to depression and other mental illnesses on women at the time. The movie Kramer v Kramer starts with Bill Kramer coming home to find out that his wife is leaving him. If you are a man watching this movie you feel empathy for Kramer at the end when he is about to lose his child. Women may feel differently because they can relate to the perspective of a female more than a male. The film maker had an agenda to bring this legal issue to the movie screen to hopefully change opinions on the issue. The issue at the time was that men didn't have a fair chance at winning custody in a legal dispute. Years after this movie the judicial system realized that the current system wasn't fair and made laws to eliminate the female ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
