2. Personal Statement
My name is Cheryl Schmidt Savitt. Raised in Houston Texas, I moved to
Los Angeles almost 20 years ago as I was looking for a change of
pace. So many changes have occurred since that time, but none as
eagerly anticipated as the completion of my undergraduate degree in
Psychology. Soon thereafter, I intend to continue my education by my
completing graduate work specializing in Sports Psychology. I have
had the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing instructors
available in the field of Kinesiology and Nutrition. The one requisite
component that consistently has been expressed to me is the need for
the psychological component.
Outside the classroom, I am a married, mother of three which reinforced
my passion, soccer. In addition, I have dedicated the last fifteen years to
American Youth Soccer Organization as a volunteer. Each of my
children has played soccer, so the passion we share for this sport has
been a unifying force for us. This experience coupled with my personal
competitive sports drive has compelled me to explore this exciting
innovative field of psychology.

5. Reflection
Over the past sixteen months my experience at Argosy University has taught me
to be resillient. As a wife, mother, employee and volunteer, the needs of others
preceded mine. Being a mature adult, I have taken the time to prioritize my
education. While originally I thought my path was Kinesiology, I now realize it
was always psychology. Yet, if I hadn’t first studied movement of the human
body I would not have found my passion, sports psychology. This spring,
I will complete my undergraduate degree and begin a new journey, pursuit of a
graduate degree. This has only been possible through the support not only of my
family but my professors, mentors and fellow students to which I owe a debt of
gratitude.

9. The importance of time management with a youth team,
is often underestimated. In professional sports, the
emphasis is placed on the athlete’s ability and often to a
lesser degree the coaches aptitude. Conversely, and
rightfully so, in youth sports the emphasis is on the
coach’s ability to train his young athletes.
There are several strategies that are often employed by
coaches. The first is the casual “fly by the seat of your
pants” coaching style. While the coach is often
experienced, nothing is planned and thus the time they
spend with their youth athlete is ineffective. The second
strategy is the planned training session. During this
session the time is planned out to allow the coach to
stress the importance of weakness in the athletes
performance.
We will explore how to utilize the planned training
session with relation to time management aspects of a
program.

16. My Future in Learning
Lifelong learning is a process of building and continuous modernization
of our skills and knowledge. These unique experiences are a
culmination of our encounters . The learning process is often
exhilarating and at other times tedious. But regardless of its
characterization we should enjoy the quest that allows us to identify
and process new information. It is my hope that the future involves a
great volume of work that increases my knowledge and allows me to
improve the knowledge of others.
