2. Front Cover
The masthead will
attract my audience,
as not only is it bright
and bold, but it uses
field specific lexis in
the way that the term
‘Encore’ relates
specifically to music,
which the audience
should understand
and therefore
recognise that this is
a music magazine.
3. Front Cover
I also made sure to
include the name of a
current, largely
successful pop artist
on my front cover to
help entice the
audience further.
People who like pop
music should all be
aware of Taylor Swift
and will most likely
be a fan of her
music, which is why
including her name
on the cover of my
magazine could
encourage more
people to buy it, as
they will want to read
about their favourite
artists.
4. Front Cover A lot of current pop
stars become
famous through
YouTube, and
considering the fact
that my audience
will all be interested
in music, and
therefore likely play
or sing a form of
music, I thought that
it would be good for
them to know that
they can end up like
the pop stars they
read about in this
magazine, as this
will motivate them
to keep doing what
they love, and
therefore encourage
them to buy the
magazine.
5. Front Cover The main story
should attract my
audience, as I
have tried to make
the article as
exciting as
possible by writing
my artist’s name
in large letters and
including a quote
from her,
suggesting that
the article will
explore the latest
gossip and news
related to this
story. I think that
this will intrigue
my audience and
make them want
to buy the
magazine to read
more.
6. Front Cover
I made sure to
attract and
address my
audience by
having my model
make eye contact
with the camera.
This gives the
impression that
she is looking
directly at the
audience, which
creates an
automatic bond
and relationship
with the reader.
This is a common
technique used in
many existing
magazines, as
seen on the right.
7. Front Cover
I used a very
simple colour
scheme to attract
my audience,
consisting of
bright pink and
neutral tones. This
is likely to attract
my audience, who
will be mostly
female, however
the bright colour in
general could still
attract either
gender.
8. Front Cover
The overall design of the magazine and front cover in particular is very important when it comes
to attracting and addressing my audience. I followed the conventions of a typical magazine by
aligning my cover lines to the right and left of the page and using the same simple, sans serif
font consistently throughout the different pages of my magazine. This gives a clean, professional
appearance which is more likely to attract an audience as opposed to something that looked
cluttered and unprofessional. I also used a plain white background which was inspired by
Billboard and Blender magazine. This draws the audience’s attention the model, masthead and
cover lines rather than distracting them with a cluttered background. All of my decisions were
made with the audience in mind, in terms of ease, understanding and attraction.
9. Contents Page
In a similar way to
my front cover, I
included names of
current popular
artists to help
entice the reader
and include
names that they
will most likely
recognise and be
a fan of.
10. Contents Page
The image will
also help to attract
the audience, as it
helps to break up
the writing on the
contents page,
and this is also
the same model
who was on the
front cover and
will be featuring in
the main article of
the magazine, so
if the reader saw
the front cover
and picked up the
magazine, they
must be interested
in reading about
this artist.
11. Contents Page
The Top Ten Hits
of the Week
should attract my
audience because
they will be music
lovers, and pop
music is very
current and new,
which is why they
will most likely be
interested in
reading about the
latest hits.
12. Contents Page
The general
layout of my
contents page
should not only
attract my target
audience, but
make it easier for
them to navigate
between pages
and categories of
the magazine.
Categories are
used on lots of
existing magazine
contents pages to
make it easier for
the reader to find
specific articles.
13. Double Page Spread The large pull
quote/title should
attract my
audience, as I
chose a quote that
was quite
intriguing and
could be
interpreted in
different ways. For
example, this
quote could be
interpreted as
slightly arrogant or
simply just
motivated and
determined. This
encourages my
audience to read
the interview to
find out the
context of the
quote.
14. Double Page Spread The font of the pull
quote/title should
also attract the
attention of my
target audience,
as it is bright and
bold in a similar
way to the
masthead on my
front cover, which
represents the fun
genre of pop
music. The pink
colour will also
appear specifically
to girls, however I
included a pop of
blue on this
spread, and tried
to keep the colour
scheme quite
minimal to avoid
any specific
determination of
gender.
15. Double Page Spread
The main image
used on this
double page
spread should also
attract and
address my
audience, as once
again it uses eye
contact to develop
an instant
connection with
the reader, and
the fact that the
model is smiling
makes it seem
friendly and
welcoming.
16. Double Page Spread
I used the same female model in all of my photos for my magazine, which will appeal
to my mostly female audience, however this does not mean that it will not also attract
the attention of males. The model is young, feminine and attractive, which fits the
stereotypical criteria of a female pop singer, thus making it more likely for my
audience to recognise her as a music artist, and for them to want to buy the
magazine and read about her story.
