23. Surround yourself with good people
My very good friend, Sarah nominated me for this program, where I met an amazing bunch of kick-
ass people like Stephanie, an esteemed Ivy League University professor. Aſter our program ended,
Stephanie introduced me to her friend and successful serial entrepreneur, Jenn. I then joined one’s of
Jenn's small networking groups where I met another bunch of kick-ass people - one of whom,
Nicole (a brilliant CEO of a tech start-up), introduced me to her friend, Jon (a super talented digital
marketing professional, also in the tech start-up world). Jon then introduced me to his good friend
and mentor, Alex (a highly sought-aſter PR maven and so much more) who, in turn graciously
introduced me to her good friend and mentor, Ernst. (a wickedly giſted Senior Marketing Executive
and entrepreneur). Ernst then introduced me to his friend and colleague, Blake (a VC and serial
entrepreneur and all around good guy), who then led me to my next great adventure!

INTERVIEWING
43. INTRODUCTION TO THE DIGITAL MARKETING COMMUNITY
Interview: it’s a date!
Make eye contact, mix smiles and seriousness. Come with a memorized list of questions
SPECIFIC to their business. Do some prep on the stupid interview questions like ….
- “where do see yourself in 5 years?” (answer: we hardly had smartphones 5 years ago,
Meercat launched and a month later it was dead, there’s no way to know, you just gotta
stay current)
- How would you describe yourself in one word? (answer: pick something neutral and
nebulous like “affable” - nobody dislikes affable people. “Driven” may sound great to one
hiring manager, to another it could mean he/she is going after my job.
