3. History of Delhi
Delhi is generally considered a close to 5000-year old city, as per Ancient Indian text The
Mahabharata, since the first ever mention of the city is found in this religious scripture.
Therefore, except the scripture and some related heritage like theYogmaya
Temple, archaeological evidences to book the city's Ancient history are as good as
naught . As a result, Delhi's Ancient history finds no records and this period may be
regarded as the lost period of its history.
Extensive coverage of Delhi's history begins with the onset of the Delhi Sultanate in the
12th century. Since then, Delhi had been the seat of Islamic and British rulers until India's
independence in 1947.

5. India Gate
The India Gate stands in the
memory of 90,000
soldiers, who sacrificed their
life in the First World War.
The names of the soldiers are
inscribed on the walls of the
gate and an eternal flame
burns in the memory of the
jawans. It also serves as a
gateway to the Rashtrapati
Bhavan.

This Delhi Monument is the
highest tower in India made
of stone. The stone pillar was
built by Qutab-ud- Din
Aibak when he ascended the
throne of Delhi during the
era of Delhi Sultanate. He
established the slave dynasty.

divided into five storeys.

7. Red Fort
The Red Fort stands sin Old Delhi and speaks of Emperor Shah Jahan's
initiative of constricting the Mughal power within the monument. For this
he built a mini city within the fort bounded by high walls. The fort stands
on a circumference of 2.2. Kilometers. The fort has a Naqqar Khana or
the drum room, the Diwan-e- Am or the Hall of public. There is also the
Mumtaz Mahal, Khas Mahal, Diwan-e- Khas, Rang Mahal, Khas
Mahal, Hammam or the bathing area and Shah Burj.

Quila
: The Purana Qila was built by Emperor Humayun and was named as
Dinpanah or the Refuge of the Faithful. The inner fort of the city is known
as Purana Qila and has three gates namely the Humayun Darwaza, Bara
Datrwaza and the Talaqi Darwaza.

2010
The 2010 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XIX Commonwealth
Games, were held in Delhi, India, from 3 to 14 October 2010. A total of 6,081
athletes from 71 Commonwealth nations and dependencies competed in 21 sports
and 272 events, making it the largest Commonwealth Games to date. It was also
the largest international multi-sport event to be staged in Delhi and
India, eclipsing the Asian Games in 1951 and 1982. The opening and closing
ceremonies were held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the main stadium of the
