VISION

AUDIENCE
In 2008, at the Tenth Summit of Tuxtla“Mechanism of
Dialogue and Agreement” the Heads of State and
Governments approved the Mesoamerican Strategy
for Environmental Sustainability (EMSA).
The Agreement promoted coordination of immediate
regional environmental actions in the strategic areas
of biodiversity, forests, climate change and sustain-
able competitiveness.
In 2013, the Ministers Council of the EMSA approved
its Action Plan 2013-2016, which defines the climate
change component, establishing cooperative actions
aimed to strengthening technical capabilities for
forest conservation at regional level.
In 2015, the Ministers Council of the EMSA, at its
Fourth Meeting, agreed to "establish a virtual center of
excellence in Forest Monitoring, as a technology
platform that facilitates the exchange of knowledge,
experiences and best practices".
The Mesoamerican Virtual Center of Excel-
lence in Forest Monitoring is a regional initia-
tive globally positioned for his quality,
relevance and impact that supports the Meso-
american efforts related to sustainable forest
management.
